3. Actually like that reaction somewhat, seems fairly townie. And btw, a lot of the pompousness was directed at you as a play on your earlier pompousness. Sort of a "how do YOU like it?" thing. The other pompousness was just me being me

 

And to explain...the scum or dumb thing is almost a meme now on my home forum.  It means that someone said something so illogical that they almost have to be either scum or townie with their head up their ass which can be just as harmful.  So no panties need to be in wads over it.  UNless you're scum and I caught you.

 

I don't really think it needed any explanation... the point is, a skilled mafia player shouldn't have any problems showing WHY a post is either scummy, or dumb. Just stating it is copping out, taking the lazy route.

I have freely admitted many times to being hypocritical in mafia. I will def fos others for things that I myself might do. But, and I will defend this till the day I die, I also think being hypocritical does not = being scum. Scumtells aren't 100% accurate anyways, there are townies who will occasionally drop the same scumtells. So not looking for certain tells just because you did the same thing just limits you as a scumhunter. It also shows that you're scared of how it will look when you point out that behavior, and townies shouldn't really be that concerned with how their actions make them look. They should be primarily concerned with catching scum, all else is far behind that priority.

One of Darthe's first posts. He came to this "conclusion" after one post of AJ's, which he can act like he set up himself:

Darthe pulls a move out of my textbook, and opens the floor for someone to try and use the theme/flavor to introduce setup talk (I def like using this tactic in themed games, as you can see if scum try to manipulate townies right out the gate using theme knowledge).

 

I watched the trailer last night after I signed up, but I have no idea other than that.

 

AJ responds thusly, apparently making Darthe determine that he is town. However, the fact that Darthe and AJ seemed so connected early on (Darthe would say AJ was trying to be him, and helped to derail AJ's lynch, and voted him but for a claim and not to lynch him), makes me feel this could have been staged.

Darthe asked another setup type question before this as well, didn't grab it. Either way, Darthe will sometimes try to ask the mod about certain stylistic things they might do; in this case I think he was forcing his meta and trying to ask Wombat these same type of questions, even tho he pretty much already knew what the answer would be. Just feels like a question guised as an actual "feeling out the mod" type post.

Cloud questions Darthe's reads, which prompts Darthe to go into arrogant mode. Again, Darthe often acts arrogant in games too, but it's usually somewhat tongue-in-cheek. In this case, it just felt like he was dancing his arrogance about. I didn't even grab all the examples of this.

 

I caight a blatant scumslip and it isn't being capitalized on. Do you guys think its too early to scumhunt or have you just not sallied up? I can explain ehat went down if need be.

 

Says he caught a blatant scumslip, and thinks others should "capitalize" on it. But this would mean to join him in voting Lenlo apparently. Yet he asks if it's too early to scumhunt.... sheeping onto someone else's case isn't really scumhunting however.

 

More importantly, isn't it kinda funny how Darthe was so convinced he had caught scum before with Lenlo, yet stopped pursing that lead some time ago when it became clear no one would follow him on it?

@Tina: Re: Verb - I said I had a town feel for him because he has been off his meta this game, and for him I actually think that's somewhat of a towntell. He normally doesn't post as much day 1, and usually doesn't actively scumhunt till later days as well. Tho I disagree with his case on Cloud, he's actually putting his neck on the line a bit by going after him, which is unusual for him. Granted, he could be abusing his meta since he was recently mafia and got steamrolled while playing like he usually does, so might be motivated to mix it up this game as scum, but I don't see this being as likely. Verbal has played a lot of games, and doesn't seem like the type to get shaky after one bad loss. I think he's trying to act different this game because he wants to help contribute more to a town victory in the early going this time. Obviously I don't discount him as scum tho.

I have a strong scum read on him right now, and that isn't common this early in the game (except for that streak when he kept getting scum and kinda stopped trying as hard). So I tend to think there's something there. I urge others to check him out as well.

Yup. Unlikely to change too. Main reason is that for some reason we don't have net at work and I haven't figured out yet how to cope with that. Made it very hard to get involved in this game, tried to get a hendle a couple of times, but never had enough online time and I just don't seem to get myself to care either. Too bad cause this game seems to have a uniquely fun atmosphere.

Despo - I like the case with Darthe. I looked for the quote where he says that you're Town this game as well but couldn't find it. Got lost in a sea of WoTs back there... He also claims that Verb is Town.

 

Anyway. Some people have jumped onto the Verb wagon that I'm unsure of which makes me a little hesitant. DL is tomorrow so my vote will put Verb at 4 and Darthe at 3. Good numbers for a wagon race.

 

It's sort of win-win in my eyes. Both of them I am wary of. I like your points made about Verb and I'm still back and forth on his stance when it came to my wagon. If Darthe gets lynched and flips scum, that's great. If Town I think it could be pretty telling about Verb and Despo.

 

Starting a competing train within 12 hours of the DL could be him trying to save Verb's ass. If Verb gets lynched and flips scum, I think this was the more likely reason (from a scum angle).

I didn't see Lenlo's post about wanting to beat a Champion as a scum slip. You can also beat someone by outplaying that person, so it doesn't say anything about a persons alignment imo. I also don't expect Lenlo to make that kind of slip, so I will just take it as him being a smartass. His VT claim is a bit too early for my liking, but everyone has a different take on that.

 

Will give more detailed thoughts later on, but does anyone else get the feeling Darthe is trying to abuse his meta here? Going all out with the ego trip, making a show out of putting out town reads far too early... I got a bad feeling about him.

I'm starting to get a town read on AJ after reading his more recent posts. He has explained his reads well, but more imporantly his recent tone is making me think that he is town (see post #220).

 

I also have a town read on Krak. He was actively scumhunting since the start of the game and I like his play so far. I think that Lenlo is town because of his posts at the start of the game and his later Vanilla claim, but he hasn't said made many game related posts afterwards so I find him more difficult to read. I would like to hear more from Csarmi. He has been around but hasn't explained his votes and hasn't really commented on the game.

Having no mafia reads is odd. If people have said things to sway you town then they must of been arguing against, for, or voting something that others disagreed with so are more scummy to you.

I was prolly drunk.  And sometimes I will ask someone to repeat a case cause scum can slip up doing that or because I want the whole case in one concise post.

 

The thing with Rag was that he came in to say he'd post later. I just find those types of posts useless and have seen scum use them as a cover for inactivity.

You don't know rag. His point is that meta varies so much that what is subjectively scummy here may not be elsewhere so until a meta is established you have to rely solely on objective tells. Not easy with an experienced player but more reliable in any case.

Wich I'm working at changing, I hope people have noticed that lately! But I'm struggling with separating this thread from the Walking Dead (and I see I'm not the only one *pokes Des*) and so I've given the other one more of my attention to get the proper feel for one at a time.

 

I agree with you about Verb though. He keeps switching his reason for why he thinks Cloud is scummy (first it was "you are too serious for this early in the game" and then it was "for chastising AJ for being so serious early"). And he doesn't say much about anyone else.
