^ I wouldn't have quoted a thing any more than I actually cased DPR (whose surprisingly not hear to discuss). I just ranted at every single person who decided to vote elsewhere until they saw the folly of their ways :p

I'm surprised at the response people gave to the 24 hour deadlines. I expected an extremely negative reaction but overall it's actually been positive.

"No one will ever be able to say "the mafia would never do that" again."

That was EXACTLY my hope.  Additionally, this is my first game on site here.  I had the ability to create my own meta.  If my meta ends up being "he could do anything as any alignment," then I think that's cool.

I have this metaphor I was planning on using to explain why I didn't full claim miller if I needed to full claim miller later in the game and was pressed on it but I think it's appropriate for what I'm trying to impart.  Let's pretend you are the new fat kid in Town. [standard scum]  The neighbors are throwing a pool party and offer you an invite - for whatever reason.  You see all the pretty people lounging around in the pool without a care in the world.  [That's your standard mafia game chat pool].  A kid on a raft.  A couple of "advanced" kids playing "Marco Polo."  That one newb with the swimmies up to us arm pits. You look down at your fat belly and can choose to play it safe.  You can keep your t-shirt on and wade in the shallow end.  No one will notice you.  OR - you can rip your shirt off, let it all hang out, peacock it up a bit, run to the deep end of the pool and CANNONBALL that party.

Guess what?  My name is Yates.

This dead thread is making me sad times in my tummy.

Regarding balance: It was pretty stacked in favor of scum.  But that ended up mostly being by choice rather than design.  The reality is that by the time I came in saw the thread, Day 1 was over and DPR had put himself into a L-1 position.  If you guys had actually completed that, things would have been very different.  I also think lucked played to our advantage.  Outing Mish like that was very unlucky for scum and very lucky for Town.  If I had played it safe I could have rolled with the DPR lynch and never would have tried that gambit.  But, safe isn't all that fun.  Verb figuring out that there was no cop really helped him out when he had to fake claim and we were LUCKY no one else realized we had voted for the shield pregame.  We also almost lynched Hallia several times.  That would have blown up in our face and Verb could have never claimed cop.  Without that fakeclaim, Verb and I were both dead meat.

Ultimately this game came down to a. a good fake claim, b. swinging that Des lynch, and c. not killing the role that would have exposed us.

BG came around on Cloud real quick.  And we were thinking he was sitting pretty.  If we had to rely on Cloud to win this all alone I think you guys would have figured him out.

Anyway, it was a fun game.  I'm glad to see postgame that Des knew my "taunting" was to get under his skin and was completely game related!  I posted as much in the scum QT and was just trying to figure out how to get him on his heels or we were dead meat.  That WHYME=FRYME stuff was the last straw so I pulled every straw man and weak piece of evidence I could find to try to associate him with scum.  I was just hoping for a deadline NO LYNCH at that point.  Flipping that into a mislynch was pretty devastating for Town and ended up being our turning point.

Krak - /m357 - Obviously Yates got to me early and kept me on his shoulder, chirping like his farking plaything while I wrecked havoc all over. Any chance I can retroactively win with mafia?

Yes, my pet.  Here's a cracker...

Yates...tbh it wasn't a good fake claim.  Claiming cop as scum it pretty standard meta here on DM.  It was lucky there wasn't a cop.

That's what made it a good fakeclaim.  He was able to ascertain that there was no cop.  It was a risky claim by a player backed into a corner.  But some of that risk was mitigated by reasoning out the setup based on remembering the choices we made pregame.  No one else thought to do that and post it in the game thread so having that discussion in our QT was nice.

Doc is standard where I normally play - it used to be here as well.....is Cop the norm now?

Either way, I didn't think there was a cop when I claimed....thus the claim.  I would have claimed something else if I felt strongly that there was a cop.  If anybody else had the same thought I did, they sure didn't say so on thread.....which would have gotten me killed easily.

I keep arguing that doc is a better mafia claim if you intend to die.

At some point.....

Well played, sir!

Though I assume I'm Jaffar in that bit.  Jaffar is swarthy.  I am swarthy.  You were on my shoulder.  Cracker was on Jaffar's shoulder.  *shrug*

The point is it's a no lose fake claim when being run up.  Regardless of your thoughts on the game.  It's a no brainer.  If you are CC'd, you team still learns who the cop is.  If not...you run free.  The upside is huge.  Really doesn't take much thought or sly play.

Depends when. Late game maybe, but early game not so much.

Looking at my setups now...it's hard to decide but I think Agrabah might be my favorite.

Or...well...I think it'll be my favorite to see how people react to and play it.

That's a looong time from now though...

You're thinking about this all wrong. What did you learn from this and how do you prevent it from happening in the future?

I think the take away should be this: if someone is getting run up and claims cop, check their reads. If most of those reads are obvious or have already flipped? FGollow through on the lynch because that "cop" is helping anyway if you are wrong - though you are probably right and the cop is probably scum.

I had a feeling the game had no Cop.....so that's partly why I claimed it.  The bottom line is that Yates and I were lined up to be lynched after DPR.....and instead we got your guys to lynch townies and let us live.  Then I claimed Cop, and got left at L-1.  Finally, people reluctantly unvoted.

Point is, it wasn't any 1 thing we did (outside of the votes & time limits helping us more than town) - it was as DPR said - a decision made by the team to play crazy and all-in.  I acted in a way I don't normally as scum.  Yates was a wildman.  It worked.

Good game to everybody.

I thought Tina actually played very good for the first half of the game. She was overshadowed by the more wordy players but her reads were pretty good iirc.

Agreed.  As some know, I'm not afraid to NK to silence.  I do it often.  I seriously considered NKing Tina to get her off my back, but I was nervous others would see and ignore the inherent WIFOM.

But yeah, she was pretty solid, as usual.
