Chapter Titles (Chapter Titles Are the Only Spoilers Allowed)

I thought about not posting any POVs. Then I figured chapter 22 was a good place to stop, and I even ?'d one of the POVs for being too spoilery. It gives you a decent idea how the beginning of the book is structured. (Remember ch. 37 is almost 200 pages; that was known before spoilers started showing up.) But after that, I think it's better not to know.

You can discuss them here, but it does seem that Harriet went out of her way to make these titles obtuse. And you can't post about POVs here unless Luckers says you can; the title says titles only.

Does anyone know if previous chapter titles have sometimes been things that were being spoken by characters within those chapters? It might reveal quite a few things about who is in that chapter and what happens.

The only repeat chapters that I noticed were:

???, A Memory of Light: Chapter 13: "What Must Be Done"
Perrin, Crossroads of Twilight: Chapter 27: "What Must Be Done"

???, A Memory of Light: Chapter 40: "Wolfbrother"
Perrin, The Eye of the World: Chapter 23: "Wolfbrother"
Perrin, The Great Hunt: Chapter 14: "Wolfbrother"

And, in both cases, the POV that the title originally came from was Perrin. A safe guess, the new ones are his as well.

There's a Rand chapter in Gathering Storm called "Just Another Man," which is similar to the AMoL Chapter 11: "Just Another Sell-Sword."

It probably just refers to Mat... but, eh, maybe it's attempting to echo the old Rand chapter title...

Sanderson just had to slip in the word "Shard," didn't he? Or, I guess it was Harriet. I suspect, however, an homage to Sanderson's worlds.

(or, do I get to now confirm that Randland is now one of the ten Shardworlds in the Cosmere?)

24 to ignore the omens: tuon pov?

33 the prince's tabac: mat pov, I guess.

44 two craftsmen: androl and ...Perrin? makin' something awesome? Been done?

45 Tendrils of mist: Padan fain?

47 watching the flow dance: aliva doing her thing?

48 A brilliant lance: the column of light egwene saw in... Um, a pre-release material dream?

And tempest. Definitely has the feel of trolling the HCFFs... (We complained mightily about both words, one for its overuse, the other for the connection to Brandon's world, but other criticisms seem to have been taken into consideration.)

Look at this interesting quote of Terez I just stumbled upon in another section of this forum, regarding the "Memories of Light" previews from Tor:

http://www.dragonmount.com/forums/topic/76964-the-amol-memories-of-light-releases/page-57

The Memories are an Easter egg, for resourceful fans.

What does this mean, and is there a connection to the Chapter titles? Is it just a coincidence that Terez used the same wording for both posts?

Posted

Either way, I wouldn't discuss it in this thread, since Luckers specified this thread was only for chapter titles. Perhaps he'd be willing to make a new one for the memories. I made notes on the Memories during my read; I doubt any of the other early readers did, though I'm sure they could tell you what at least a few of them were. If you find this Easter egg, though, all you'll get is page numbers. :)

While I've read the titles in the post above, I'd still like to figure it out.

Question: Is this something that can be discovered on a tablet (such as an iPad viewing the full site in Safari?) Or do I need a full browser, mouse, etc?

Posted

I would say it's a lot easier to figure out from an actual computer. At least the click I needed to make to find it wasn't visible at all on my iPhone version of the forums. If your just looking at her posts on an iphone you won't get anywhere. Not sure about iPad or other tablet.

It is not visible on the mobile version of the site.

Yea but you can get to the full version of the site with an iPhone. So it's doable, just a lot easier from a real computer *shrug*

Yup, I opted for the laptop route myself.  Was a fun little thing.

On a side note, Happy New Years Eve everyone!
