Gaidal Cain

I was reading the transcript of the interview iwth BS, and I noticed this:

Brandon: As I understand, if you are 'spun out' you do not respond to the call of the Horn. So no Cain showing up if it is sounded again, as he's been spun out.

I know there has been a lot of speculation about Brigitte and Gaidal, but did we know for certain that he was spun out again? If so I totally missed that.

Yes, I always read that as Birgittes speculation, not as a confirmation that he was indeed spun out. How long time has passed since Birgitte was ripped out? One year? Depending on when the soul is spun out, at time of conception or time of birth, he would be anywhere from 3-12 months now? Or is there any other possibility?

^^ and Rj has already come out and said that Gaidal isn't Olver, think about it Olver is 10 years old, Gaidal Cain is seen with Birgitte in TAR in the earlier books which is alot less time than 10 years. When a hero is spun out, their soul is reincarnated in a new born baby's body not a 10 year olds

thats really hard to imagine that he isn't Gaidal... he has all his properties. If he isnt Gaidal what role have a 10 Years old ugly Olver then in the wheel of time.

Well if Rj already said that he isnt Olver than i must life with it ^^

Robert Jordan did say Olver had a reason to be in the story other than a red herring. But that reason is anyone's guess.

I didn't mean that Olver in himself is a red herring, but that his ugliness is. His purpose was to make Mat and Thom remember the snakes and foxes game so they could cheat when they entered ToG.

Yes, I believe this is Olver's function in WoT which is why I think he will die in the Battle of Caemlyn as he is no longer "needed" in the story. (that sounds really callous)

What about the pregnant girl(s)? could he be about to be born?

I think he has already been born, I'm almost cetain that soon after she is ripped out of TAR Birgitte mentions that she hadnt seen Gaidal for a while and she thinks he has been spun out by the pattern and that he would already be a baby somewhere. Suggesting that his new body is born soon after the soul is spun out again (Gaidal Cain possibly "left" TAR at the exact moment his new body was born) so the girls who are pregnant are to late for it to be Gaidal

If he hadnt been seen in TAR for some time, then he's already been born. The pregnant girls are too late.

That means he's a child in randland right now... but younger than olver. Olver is to old and RJ/BS said olver isnt gaidal.

Who has that has had screen time in WoT, has an ugly kid? ;)

I always thought his main purpose was to show Mat maturing a little. Show him take on the grown up responsibilities of being a father figure for the young boy.

Plus, he's quite entertaining.

I figured it was because there weren't really any children in WoT. People complained about it (as well they should have; it was a little strange). And like the urine-tasting thing, RJ took advantage of the opportunity to give Elayne some High Seats that would make people laugh at her.

This isn't ASOIAF, thus I think Olver will survive, even if all the remaining Forsaken attack him at once.

I believe it has been mentioned that time works differently in TAR, so it seems plausible that although we see Gaidal with Brigitte in TAR during the series he could have been spun out in the waking world some time ago. Brigitte's comment about not having seen him for awhile might support this as well.

Crossroads of Twilight book tour 16 January 2003, Dayton, OH - Tim Kington reporting

Q: Is Olver Gaidal Cain?

RJ: No. I didn't really think that this would last as long as it has. The timing is wrong. He has another reason for being there besides being a red herring, though.

Q: He's too old.

RJ: Yes. Time in Tel'aran'rhiod and the real world run at different rates, but it never runs backwards. You may spend an hour in Tel'aran'rhiod, and a day has passed when you get back, or you may spend a day, and an hour has passed when you get back, but you'll never go in on Tuesday and come back on Monday.

Q: Is the difference in time constant?

RJ: No. It's fairly random. Sometimes fast, sometimes slow, sometimes the same as real time.

Q: It's different for different people, then?

RJ: Yes. Unless they're together in Tel'aran'rhiod. Then the same amount of time passes for them obviously.
