Rand back to Emond's Field

First, apologies if this has already been discussed, tried the search function of the forum with no result.

When browsing the pages trying to find info for another thread I came across Rand's thoughts as he was leaving Emond's Field. He thought to himself that no matter how long the journey is and no matter how far it will take him he will come back. I'm wondering if we are going to see him go back home. I can't think of any reason for him to go there now, but may be in the epilogue of AMOL?

I'd say it's definitely foreshadowed. In Aviendha's visions of the future, you get the feeling that he 'left' willingly - disappeared from society - after the Last Battle, rather than that he just died. That's why they held it against him - they think he could have helped them in some way against the Seanchan. It would also explain why Aviendha and Elayne seemed to disappear after a time...they might turn it over to the heirs as soon as it's feasible and go live with Rand in the Two Rivers. (Min will die long before they will.)

But I think Rand would lead the world again if the Seanchan would start a war. Or, in general, if there is a war. Then everyone would be united at once. And he has LTT's memories, and LTT was a brilliant general, so Rand wouldn't even need Mat or Bashere or Gareth or someone else.

I think its pretty clear from ToM that Rand will never be a general in that way. He has no ambition to be a leader, other than to fulfill his role in TG and defeating the DO. Afther that I am convinced he will withdraw from the world, if he suvives (wich I believe he will). But isn't the TR a little too oobvious? The only chance for him to live quietly there would be if everyone else thinks him dead. (Wich of course also is a possibility). I can't see the world letting the Dragon just wander of to live in his quiet little village and forgetting all about him.

I believe the right people will keep the secret, and no one else will know the difference. Likely he and Tam will rebuild. But then, there are always wards. :) Anyone can come visit him via gateway.

Then we still have the question who will come with him. Only Min, or also Aviendha or even Elayne. And I must say that Rand has become a leader who doesn't have to do anything to lead well. And as LTT he was also a leader, and he is both Rand al'Thor and Lews Therin Telamon. So half of him has lead because he wanted to, the other half because he had to. But I think he now wants to lead.

I got the impression that Rand would leave the world to itself as well. This doesn't make much sense because the world would suffer under the rule of the Seanchan.

A man with four centuries worth of experiance and education at the upper echelons of a space age society could single-handedly initiate a cultural and technological rennasisance in a backwards world like the WOT features. Especially when anti-male predjudice is one of the chief features of that world and he would be credited with saving the entire population from the forces of evil. And especially especially when said man might live to be eight hundred years old!

If Rand is still alive at the end and decides to abandon the world to live on a farm for a few centuries, squandering all the newly reacquired knowledge of the Age of Legends and what it could mean to those who labour under sexism, oppresive aristocracies, poor healthcare, etc, I will consider him massively irresponsible and dissapointing.

After the last battle he he will no longer be taverin, hes used and thrown away, the pattern wont need him any more.

I dont see what that has to do with anything. He's not going to lose all his 400+ years of AoL knowledge just because he's not ta'veren anymore. He could still do loads to make the world a better place for everyone.

What if at the end he is not only burnt out and loses his ta'veren-ness , but loses his LTT memories as well? He might remember being the Dragon and have the same knowledge of LTT that the rest of the world did but none of LTT's personal memories? He's no longer the Dragon, or a channeler, just Rand Al'Thor. After he saves the world, I think Logain will take on the Dragon persona and lead the Black Tower, achieving the glory that Min saw.

People assume that things like the One Power and the continuing "cycle" of the Wheel will be intact at the end of the series. What if time becomes linear at the end of the series and the OP and/or access to it becomes permanently lost. A memory of Light will be all that is left of the Power IMO.

Logain would be Dragon in name only, only Rand can have the Dragon soul. But since the Pattern no longer needs him, his ta'veren, channeling, and LTT memories are gone. But as his reward for saving the universe, he is allowed to live out the rest of his life in peace.
