Since we've gone all sciencey...

Currently watching 8 out of 10 cats do Countdown...

So the first numbers round:

8, 9, 3, 8, 50, 75

979

(the idea is that you use the 8 smaller numbers to make the larger one, you can only use them once)

Ok, I undersand the fractal nature of ferns, I understand a lot of science, but I hate and can not do math (which is why I leave all math to DJ, since he's the numbers man as an accountant).  I do physical science.  I cut open specimens to teach people how the physical body works.  I don't have to worry about math there.  But I do also have to teach students how to calculate a heart rate and a respiratory rate.  "Count for 15 seconds and multiply by 4"  And there's me, not having a clue what 15x4 is.  I count for 6 seconds and multiply by 10, then continue to listen to the heart for any abnormalities.  I am math challenged!

My Dad always had my sister and I figuring out the cheapest chocolate biscuits and crisps at the supermarket when we were kids.  If we figured out the cheapest we got to get them for the week :)  It was great for basic mental arithmetic.  I find I still do it when trying to figure out if any of the 'special offers' are actually worth it :)

Sometimes you have to check out those deals as they try to trick you with those special deals.  Brid and I have found on occasion that it is better to buy a few smaller items than to buy the special deal big box of of item.

Sounds like fun for kids. I remember waiting to see what the cash register said the cost was and when my parents handed their cash to the cashier, I tried to beat the cash register in figuring out the change that my parents would get back.

I teach English and Spanish.....what do you think my level of understanding is for science and math? lol I use my calculator to grade papers and I ask my sister who is four years younger than me about science stuffs....not to mention, I drove my college biology professor bonkers with how many questions i asked on a daily basis. He told me there were no stupid questions, so I asked every stinkin question that popped into my brain, and oftentimes his response was "see me after class and I'll see if we can get you to understand it" ......lol my effort paid off with an A in the class though! even though I failed the first two tests (the nice professor let me retake them because he felt guilty for not answering all of my gazillion questions)
