Logain

I just re-read the last 7 books. The only mention of Logain is when Rand loses his hand, then sends Logain as an ambassador to the Seanchan. In "Towers" he is mentioned by some guys at the black tower, but thats all I saw. Anybody see something I didn't?

You might want to ask to move this topic to the ToM forum as the general WoT forum is still ToM spoiler-free.

Personally, I think he's taking a well-deserved vacation on a beach somewhere. The guy has had a very stressful year. Everybody is entitled to some R&R every now and then. I mean, Rand essentially took off all of Book 10 (which I guess was only one day, but still...) Don't worry, I'm betting he'll be all rested up and ready for action in the Last Battle.

Done and done.

Thanks for moving the thread. Ok, as far as I can tell Logain's location is an absolute mystery. The only clues I've seen are from ToM:

Androl had been worrying for weeks now. Ever since Logain had left in the night. Where had he gone? Why had he taken Dónalo, Mezar and Welyn — of the most powerful Dedicated loyal to

him - along

Later Mezar shows up and switches loyalties to Taim. He also seems to be 13x13 turned (or compelled). Given that he left with Logain this would indicate that Logain is in deep trouble. I don't believe anything else is known.

The weird thing is that the day Logain disappeared he said this:

“More than half the Black Tower is in Arad Doman and Illian. I sent all the men with bonded Aes Sedai except those here, as you ordered.”
Yet from Pevara's POV in TOM, weeks later:
She purposely did not look to the side, toward the line of small buildings where the bonded Aes Sedai made their homes. She'd heard what some of them were doing, trying to control their Asha'man using . . . various methods. That made her skin crawl, too. While she thought most Reds had too harsh an opinion of men, what those women did crossed the line with a heedless leap.

Of course, we know that Logain's lied to Rand in the past, but this is quite odd, and possibly a mistake.

It seems brandon sanderson thinks spending pages and pages of tea drinking and some back and forth between paerrin and galad is more important than what's happening in BT and logain.

That's two books where logain is missing.

Haha, this made me laugh out loud. You can't be serious? I think you meant "RJ used to spend pages and pages of tea drinking and some back and forth between [insert unimportant characters]."

I say, all in good time, my friend, all in good time.

i am serious. It's really sad that the last time we even see logain on screen was in 2005. When i first started University.

Let's not forget that the last time we saw Moiraine on screen was in like 1995! I agree that Logain is cool, and hopefully will play an important role in the last book, but there was SO much to cover in the last two books. I guess I'm just saying, give BWS a break, he won't disappoint.

You know, he is kind of more of a minor character, at this point. I just don't think it's that odd.

I don't think a character that was introduced from book 1 and regained his ability to channel in book 6 to having his own POV in book 10 is a minor character. Not someone who destined for greatness anyways.

moraine was in jail for the past 15 years! So nothing could have been done with her. Whereas logain just vanished. It's no coincidence that his last appearance was in Jordan's final book as sole author.

And if you look at TOM closely it's all action and nothing of worth going on apart from moraine getting freed and mesanna being fried. I want to see stuff happen that moves the plot forward. There was nothing of that sort in TOM. It was just a largely a book of power base consolidation, people apologising to each other, people seeing each other after ages and one waste of time battle.

Man i miss RJ

Ok... I respect your view of TOM, but I think you are certainly in the minority when it comes to thinking that "nothing of import happened in ToM."

Anyway, back to Logain, I think he'll still be a major part of the ending, and I'm just as excited as you are to find out where he's been. Hopefully his absence was intentional, and not accidental on BWS's part.

Yeah, I agree. Logain is one of favorite characters. I'm sure he'll have an important role in the final book.

It's just too bad that RJ spent so many pages on the White Tower, and so few on the Black Tower/Logain/Taim. For me, Rand's creation of the Black Tower was one of the coolest "things" in the series. But so far, the Black Tower's biggest moment came at Dumai's Wells in Book 6. At the end of that book, I was so excited. I was thinking: you know Taim's a bad guy, and he's gonna try to turn the Black Tower on Rand, and that's gonna result in an awesome showdown. And then pretty much nothing happened with the Black Tower for the next 5 or 6 books!

When the title of Book 13 was announced, I thought, finally, they're gonna resolve the Black Tower! No dice. Now, the whole mess is gonna have to resolved along with a bunch of other plot threads in one just one final book, and it's almost guaranteed to be rushed and not nearly as satisfying. It's a shame.

that is the polar opposite of everything I've heard everyone saying for the last 10 years!

The only thing that made him a possible main was the viewing eons ago when Min's viweing of him has Logain wearing a crown or whatever. I like him too but his time hasn't come yet.

When was that?

“Light, Logain!” the pretty boy exclaimed. “Did you take a second one? The M’Hael won’t like that! I don’t think he likes us taking any!
“Taim gave the order,” Logain said, coldly uncomfortable explaining himself in front of an audience. Sudden lightning close to the house cast his face in lurid shadows for an instant, a bleak mask of darkness. “I assumed it came from you.”

Logain is going to do a Tam in MoL in regards to the timeline.

You'll see him turn up and take Mezar & Co with him, then do whatever he was doing.

Mezar gets zombified then the timeline will catch up with ToM

Just with the AS, I though Pevara was talking in the past tense. The AS did make their home there but have now gone.

Thats how I read it anyway

I don't see the lie. Logain assumed the order came from Rand, probably because Taim didn't seem happy about having been ordered to bond the Aes Sedai. Which was probably true, though the order likely came from Moridin rather than Rand.

The Black Tower

This is a very interesting read! I especially liked the forshadowing of Semirhage's own death and the possibility that Moridin and Cyndane destroyed the doorway to Finn-land in Tear.

I do have a couple of questions about your theories.

1. why do you think that Rand is the Broken Wolf from the shadow prophecy? Rand has not been named any kind of Wolf before so far as I can recall.

And your justification of the line "the one whom death has known" seems extremely implausible to me.

2. What do you think of the theory that Aviendha's gateway and time traveling?

http://13depository.blogspot.com/2001/07/aviendhas-gateway.html

I find the arguments presented there quite compelling. And the quote you give yourself does indicate that Aviendha used different weaves from a regular gateway.

Aviendha focused, and the flows wove together, creating identity between this place and the place she and Elayne and Nynaeve had chosen on a map. She gestured as though opening tentflaps. That was no part of the weave Elayne had taught her, but it was almost all she could recall of what she herself had done, long before Egwene made her first gateway.

Even if one discounts the time traveling theory, different weaves should produce different result, no? something is different about Avi's gateway, right?
