And the three shall become one (spoiler from last book)

This is just a theory I have regarding the last battle. There are some spoilers (Albiet small ones) from the last book.

In Chapter 48 "Reading the commentary" min reads the following from a book;

"He shall hold a blade of light in his hands and the three shall be one"

Min and Cadsuane posture that this is relating to Rand being in a link (circle) with two other women. And that those three shall become one.

However, I believe it is more about how Rand will go about closing the hole to the DO's prison.

Saidar

Saidin

and the True Power

Earlier in the book Lews Therin mumbles that "We touched it to him, something has to touch him" (he was speaking about closing the bore)

I believe that Rand will wield all three powers, touching the Dark One with a weave made of the True Power while a weave of Saidin and Saidar are used to push the True Power weave into place. This way Rand can keep the DO from touching the true source and tainting it while simultaneously sealing the DO back off.

Thoughts?

(Also hello! First post here :P )

It's an interesting idea, but we know that no one can channel the TP without the DO's permission. I would think that he could just cut off Rand's access if it looked like that was going to happen.

Then when Rand fought against Semierhage (spelling) did the DO grant him permission, or did he find it on his own? The way the book reads Rand finds it after suffering a mental break down due to what the forsaken was putting him through.

This also leads to questioning why, if the DO suddenly granted him permission to stop her, why not let Semierhage finish her business? Her ultimate goal was not to kill or injure him, simply to bring him to Shayl Ghoul. She wanted him to suffer through the actions she was having him take, but her plan was to bring him to the DO at Shayl Ghoul.

I think the "three shall become one" line refers to Rand, Mat, and Perrin working together at the last battle. None of the KC has seemed obvious how it would be fulfilled until after the a prof. was fulfilled.

I think the reason the AS assume it refers to the OP is AS bias. It isn't the first time it happened *cough*Elaida*cough* and Mo, who dedicated her life to finding the Dragon Reborn and helping him succeed, was completely surprised by two other ta'veren and how close they were tied to Rand.

There are many trinity in WoT. The lovers, Aviendha, Elayne and Min, the three major powers currently in Randland - Rand, Egwene and Tuon, the three ta'veren, the three of the link for Callandor, and the One Power halves and True Power. Who knows of which it refers?

It seems obvious it is about callandor, as it is phrased just after it.

The simplest answer is usually the correct one, although I suppose that doesn't always apply in the confusing world of Randland. Myself, I think it seems pretty obvious that it means he'll wield Callandor in the last battle with two women. I don't really see where the blade of light fits into your theory, Rand wouldn't be thick enough to use it by himself now, except if there really was no other chance. For once in Randland, I do think that the simplest answer is the correct one.

"The Blase of Light" may just be a metaphor, not like we haven't seen those in the KC all ready.

When Rand, Mat, and Perrin work together their armies become the "Blade of Light" to fight the shadow.

Remember what happens when one thinks of the other two. It could be a way to help the three act in concert. An argument can be made that the opening moves of TG have started a few books ago (the cleansing) and that was about when the three started having the flashes of the other two.

I was thinking the exact same thing as the OP.

The reason he could be able to use TP is because of his link to Moridin may allow him to do so without permision.

This is how I read it. Rand is able to wield the TP through his link with Moridin. I believe the DO cannot deny Rand use of the TP (unless perhaps denying Moridin) thus Rand was able to stop Semierhage regardless of whether or not the DO desired it. If the link is permanent, which is how I read it, then the DO can not suddenly cut Rand off from the TP in the LB, even if it becomes apparent that Rand will use it against him. Just my guess.

I support the body-swap theory. And I have one more thing to add: to use Callandor, Rand needs 2 female channelers. Moridin has the 2 mindtraps - of Cyndane and Moghi. In Moridin's body, Rand could then link with the 2 of them since he has control over them...

What do you think of that?

Hmmm... well then what about the blade of light that rand weilded in tEotW?

i find that im compelled to believe that certain aspects of the events in tEotW would take pivotal roles in the coming books. Although the verse seems rather straight forward i find myself taking it with a grain of salt bearing in mind that most prophecies ive seen in this book aren't always what they appear to be

Funny enough this was the first thing i thought of when i read that prophecy, It jumped out at me much more than the circle with callandor.

Clearly it seems to indicate Callandor in some way but add the prophecy with LTT line about something having to touch the DO and it makes sense. The major objection I have seen by most people is that the DO has to grant access, but I see Rands use of the TP as a side effect of his link with Morridin (power comes through the link) and from the DO's point of view when rand uses the TP it appears to be Morridin.

Of course Rands TP use could of been granted by the DO in an attempt to further corrupt rand and there are a lot of other things that would have to play out correctly for this theory to work, but I don't think it is impossible.

I dont think its two female channelers, simply because Aes Sedai leapt to that conclusion and we know how often they are wrong when they try and interpret prophecies and viewings and whatnot (like all the time.) Personally, I think its the ta`veren; there are already somehow linked via the colours, and I wouldnt be surprised if those swirls are more important then alot of us realise. Saidar, Saidin and the TP being created together is kind of interesting though. Like others have said, in theory you cant channel without the Dark Ones permission, but we dont know enough about the specifics behind the Semiharge scene, and if the bodyswap idea did happen... hmm who knows.

I interpreted it as Rand, LTT and Moridin.

Rand and LTT have been slowly merging over time, and who knows what the effects of his link with Moridin could be?

Lews Therin isnt actually a separate person.

He is a diffrent aspect of Rand's soul.

It is not clear if the voice is real or madness, but LTT IS Rand. There is no merging to be done.

I think Rand wielding Callandor in a circle with 2 other women is a huge red herring. Rand shall hold a blade of light (Hawkwing's sword that we know he has from TGS) and the three (ta'veren) shall become one. Whether the 3 ta'veren becoming one is figuritive, metaphorical or literally is largely irrelevant because we have the prophecy and know they will become one. The most logical explanition is they become one during the LB in their purpose.

Think about it, the three ta'veren become one. Can you even begin to imagine what not just 1 ta'veren but 3 ta'veren as one can do with the Pattern? Of course it's void of details, but the general idea is 3 ta'veren united as one will be strong enough to 're-write' the Pattern or 're-shape' the Pattern around them void of the DO and seal him outside the Pattern. Not with channeling tricks or any kind of physical type of prison. To fully seal the DO outside of the Pattern will require the Pattern itself to make this possible. This is the ultimate reason why the Pattern needed 3 ta'veren and not just 1. This is all just speculation and opinion of course, but to me the 3 main characters becoming one seems most fitting.

But it doesn't say, "the three people shall become one". The three could very well be the people in Rand's head, be they separate souls, or just personalities of the same soul.

To go a little further with 3 ta'veren becoming one. I think we can safely conclude that the Dark One does fear the 3 ta'veren...combined. This is why Moridin orders Mat and Perrin's deaths. The Time of Change is coming soon Moridin says and they must die. If Moridin is ordering their deaths then you can be sure this is at the Dark One's behest. So the question becomes, what is so important about Mat and Perrin that the Dark One fears and requires them to be killed? The answer is he fears their ta'veren nature because in effect they are the will or instruments directly of the Pattern and the Dark One is the anti-thesis of the Pattern.

So therefore, the only real weapon the Dark One fears is the ta'veren. This is because the Dark One knows that if the ta'veren nature is strong enough and with the proper guidance or knowledge, can be used to manipulate the Pattern into sealing him outisde of it again, as it was prior to the drilling of the bore. We also know that Rand is the strongest ta'veren since the breaking and Mat and Perrin are hardly less. Verin tells Mat that outside of the Dragon Mat would be the strongest ta'veren alive since Hawkwing. So take 3 ta'veren and 'form a circle' or have them 'become one' in ta'verness and theres your power the Dark One fears because he knows what it can do.
