What I'm thinking, if I have all this correct, is that at the end, we will need all the town votes we can get because the mafia will all vote for their candidate, and the town will surely be divided between the two. (They will know who's who and we won't.) So, maybe we shouldn't kill anyone, at least this soon, unless we are sure. Once we are out of finder views, then we'll have to come up with a new approach.

I'm not too worried about someone falsely claiming to have viewed someone as scum. If they lie, the die next, and that seems like a bad choice for the scum.

Okay, guys, where are the holes in this? I know there are some. I'm not the best logical thinker in the world, but more instinctive in my play.

Alys, I quickly look at two Suras games and there was only one that had no lynch votes but it never made a majority. But I agree, with Wes it's sure to be bloody whatever we choose! I guess this is one way to find out. He has a deadline, so I'm sure he's got a way to get rid of some of us whatever we do!

short notice. sorry. but will be at MEPS tonight and all day tomorrow. will try to read better later, bu most likely won't be able to. :/

[glow=red,2,300]no lynch[/glow] for now. nothing is bearing fruit atm

Red first:

DO NOT WASTE VIGS OR PROTECTS TONIGHT.

i understand not wasting a vig unless you find scum, but i'm a bit confuse as to how using your protection tonight would be a waste

Okay, so what if you protect scum?

Adella next:

In reply to your asking why I didn't ask for a reply then, I consider that my reply "but I'm serious", etc, implicitly requested one - particularly given the context in which you appeared to flippantly dismiss my post.

My main concern, which you haven't addressed, is in that first italicised section. Your reasoning doesn't seem logical, and so I would like you to explain it further. I did indeed form it as a statement, though it implicitly invites clarification and it almost boggles my mind that you would let matters stand there without such.

Lily, lucky last:  mayhaps you're not scum? No lynch is the way to go since we all have three powers (hadn't quite figured that out at the start of the game), though I'm glad we've managed to drag up the Jeran - Adella - Lily connection. Something is going on there, I'm sure of it, though perhaps it isn't necessarily scummy.

[glow=red,2,300]unvote, vote no lynch[/glow]

Bah, further note to Red: I think I see what you mean now. If you know somebody's town, by all means protect them - though remember you might like to protect them later in the game instead.

Question for the mod:  If we protect someone and they are NOT targeted do we keep that protection or is it still gone?

Confusion rules over your senses, and there is no easy way to know who is to trust.

As expected, a No Lynch vote is cast by 12 players to preserve your numbers. Thus, all players move forward into night.

IT IS NOW NIGHT 1. PLEASE TURN IN ANY NIGHT ACTIONS YOU WISH TO USE WITHIN 24 HOURS. IF YOU DO NOT TURN THEM IN, THEY WILLNOT BE USED. EVERY PLAYER HAS THE OPTION OF USING 1 VIG KILL, 1 COP FIND, AND 1 DOC HEAL. THERE ARE NO LIMITS AS TO WHEN, OR HOW MANY OF THESE YOU CAN USE AT ONE TIME. GOOD LUCK.

Amber liquid is poured into the bottom fourth of each glass, and as soon as 10 are filled, hand reach in to take one.

“To our impending victory! As none of these fools even begins to suspect what is actually happening, I see little to stand in our way!”

Nods of assent are the only response as each glass is drained.

Then, one by one, each member left the room and went forth into the night to take their place in the scheme.

***

‘To the Bova Peradda! May he lead us back to what we once were!”

“Here, here!”

The Captain’s house was raucous, festive, with the air of rebellion that always surrounds such events.

The Captain spun to face the group…

“We only have 21 days! Let nothing stand in our path…let nothing keep us from the promise of returning The Hall to its former glory!”

Cheers went up again. The rebellion was under way at last.

***

“Who would have ever seen that coming? The old man had the Beva Perrada ready to go the whole time. He’s a cagey one, the Nineteenth is. There’s a reason his hair is gray…”

“Too true, that. It’s easy to forget the Neitaren assault, or the Sendekian kidnapping. Or even that mess up at Pella Kroll, but the old bastard has seen us through more than just about any other. I’ll bet he’s a got a trick or two up his sleeve yet.”

***

The Minister stroked his beard, staring at the green liquor in the tiny glass next to him.

“He wasn’t a spy. You must know that now. Who gave you this information?”

Raisa shook her head, biting her bottom lip as tears welled at the corners of her eyes.

“I don’t know…I never knew. It was just a lead, like so many others, and he was where they said he would be. He was selling information…”

“Yes. Because I told him to sell it.”

“I am so sorry…I thought I was protecting you…”

The Minister shook his head.

“I believe you, but hear me now. Do not speak to another. Do not so much as look another in their eyes, and if anything else comes back to you…anything at all that seems relevant, send word to me immediately. Raillon will see that it reaches me.”

“I will…”

He looked back at her, an expression of anger mixed with pity creased along his brow.

“You’d better. I don’t know if I can’t get you out of this, so think long and hard Raisa. Think long and hard…”

Politics. *sigh* Read the scene. There are several suggestions there that, knowing wes, will bear fruit. Someone tricked Raisa who is on the minister's side, but the usurper's claimed her on their side as well...? And some anonymous group is plotting behind all of their backs. well, it plays to the 3 factions... only wasn't one supposed to be undecided?

Posted

One third of the players will be Bonda Perrada.

A third of you will be neutral.

it's only logical to think that the remaining 1/3rd of players would be in suport of Beva seeing as he's the other canidate.

of course, with Wes's last post, it suggests that there might be 4 factions or even dissenters within the 3 defined groups (Undecided's, Bova's & Beva's)

Sorry, red, didn't mean to call you out. Just pulled the first post I remembered seeing it in. A 4th faction bears thinking on considering the story line. However, I'm loathe to defy what mods specify in favor of inventiveness.

Posted

Okay, a thought!

The first group in Wes's post sound like they are the mafia. I think that Bova peradda/Beva Peradda is the head of the Mafia and there is something else going on. But there are people out there that are either Bova or Beva supporters but are actually town and the rest are neither but indecided. It makes sense that Supporters for both would come from the town. As in any political situation like this, someone maybe corrupt and going for a high position but those supporting him, may not know his is and believe what he is doing is for the good!

So, There are three groups

1. Bova Peradda Supporters (town alignment)

2. Beva Peradda Supporters (town alignment)

3. Those undecided

We know that the mafia know who there head is. But it maybe that the head could be either Beva or Bova Peradda.

Just because you are town doesn't mean and a supporter of one, that the one you support is actually town as well.

I'm hoping I make sense here, and please, if there is anything wrong with this please say, or any thing else you can add.

As for Raisa, I think the head of the mafia obviously set her up, but we don't know which one that is. Could it be that Beva Paradda, is manipulating the Minister or is this coming from the Bova Peradda.  :-\

you bring up interesting points Tayla, and i think i get what yoru saying.  it sure would be one heck of a twist.  i'm gonna review the story line a bit more, seperating it into the 5 cateogries of interest (Beva, Bova, Undecided, Risa, manipulators) and see what i come up with.  with all the scenes Wes has posted, there should be some puzzle pieces we can fit together as far as set-up and mechanics.

i don't know how this will help us scum hunt though?  but it might be useful later in the game  :-\

Umm, [translate]: Just because you are town and a supporter of one doesn't mean that the one you support is actually town?

Heh. I got lynched for that last time I played because they thought it wasn't useful though it turned out it was essential, if somewhat confusing, and I was on the right track the whole time.

someone maybe corrupt and going for a high position but those supporting him, may not know his is and believe what he is doing is for the good!

Scary. But maybe a useful tool against the mafia if it could be sniffed out for use.

Yes, that looks right Alys, I do that all the time when writing.

I'm not sure how it will help the town, but anything at the moment I feel will be useful and Wes did say this game was Political. So if we have a better understanding it can't do anything but help, even if slightly!

I was thinking about the way i wrote what I did, and it may confuse some people, so I thought of an easier way to make it understood.

In your local area you have an election for an important office. There are two candidates and each one will have their manifesto. Both look and sound the part when they speak. They could belong to two political parties. Have their differences but depending on how you sit on the fence, one will look the better candidate to you. So each one will have their supporters. As with all elections there are those who are undecided until the last minute. Both may give them good points and some not so good, so they wait and decide at the last minute (Any normal election in other words).

However, one of the candidates is corrupt as they come and has plans to turn into a dictator the moment he is elected. No one knows about this except his elite crew.

The general public are unsuspecting when they vote for him, thinking he is an honourable person.

Now those elite people are going to spread themeslves amongst the supporters not just for him, but the other guy and the undecided. To help push things their way.

I see this as the same. Three groups, with both supporters and undecided with the mafia mixed in with that. so it may not be a good idea to blindly trust people!

alright, i've gotten it broken up into sections.  i'm going to us 1 post per each area, so bare with me ;)  in each i've bolded the parts which i felt spoke to the issue at hand.  the issue being, who is manipulating events

Minister

That an unscheduled convocation had been called after last night’s murder, and was attended by a majority of Captains, was proof of the Minister’s suspicions.

There would be a challenge to the Minister’s seat, and everyone knew it.

Call it mutiny, or anything else that you wanted, The Hall survived because of strength, and at some point, doubt had been sewn over how strong the reigning Minster was.

The glare of the late afternoon sun shone off of the waves below.

There had never been a Minister who didn’t prepare for such a thing, and the 19th had been preparing for this uprising for some time. But, even he had been surprised to hear of the murder at the floating city of prayer.

to me, this shows that the Minister wasn't behind the murder, or was atleast surprised that the murder had been followed through on the information he planted.

but it does show that he was expecting a mutiny or rebellion against his administration

The Minister closes his eyes. She had always been one of his best, on whom he could always count on. He had searched for any way to save her, and the one way he had found, he had acted on.

The Minister cleared his throat. It was time.

“I greet the Captain’s of the Hall, a bid a fine evening to all that serve them…” He performed a sweeping bow, complimenting the Captain’s and mocking them, all at once.

Tonight, one of our own stands charged of a crime committed in the city of Des Leera. As we all know, taking the life of another is prohibited there. As the monks have allowed us free trade and access to the cities, so have we agreed to abide by their laws.”

He leveled his steel gaze over the people gathered beneath him.

“And Raisa has broken their laws, taking the life of one who shall remain nameless. He shall remain nameless because his name does not matter here. The Monk’s law requires that no life be taken, and Raisa has broken that law.  For that, she must answer.”

A few shouts were heard, calls of protest, both against following the Monk’s laws and against the charges in the first place. A rather loud cry of “she was setup!” rang through the air.

The Minster continued.

“As we have always followed the law of The Hall, so shall we continue. As Minister, it is my duty to see that Raisa pay for the offense she has offered.” He looked at those below him one more time…”And I say, Raisa must pay with her life.”

Howls of protest filled the courtyard. Angry voices called out form one side to the other. The Minister held both hands out, palms down to quite them.

“And as always, any Captain that wishes to do so, may speak as to my decision…”

There. The trap had been laid. It was all the Minister could do

this one shows that his main concern appears to be for Riasa.  he calls her "his best" so maybe this implies that he is her Captian or she is his under Captian.

the fact that the Minister says "One of Our Own" implies that he alligns himself with the Captians, that he came from them.  this further gives arguement to the assumption that he might be Riasa's Captian.

we also see Wes slip in the notion of the possablity of a Set-up via crowd response.  knowing now that there is a 3rd party behind the scenes manipulating events (such as the murder and rebellion) to serve their own means, the mention of a Set Up takes on new meaning.

and once again, the Minister displays that he knows about the upcomming dissent, feelign that he is both respecting and mocking the other captians with his bow and that he has "laid a trap"

He searched the Minister’s eyes for uncertainty, hoping that he had caught the older man at least a little off guard. But there was none to be seen.

The Minster spoke calmly, in a very calculated voice.

“As is the right of any Captain to declare him or herself Bova Perrada, I also have the right to answer that challenge.” He looked out at the eyes in the crowd.

“And I choose to decline.”

A gasp went up from the crowd and the Minister was pleased that at least that much had been a surprise. He continued.

“Instead, I choose to appoint my successor. In this case, he shall also be nameless and be known instead as Beva Perrada.

A younger Captain stepped forth with a solemn expression on his face. The Minister went on.

“As is our custom, The Captain’s will have exactly three weeks to choose between my challenger, or my appointed successor. At the end of that three weeks, secret ballots will be cast, and I will relieve my duty to the man who wins that vote.”

“Until that time, no old crimes may be tried.” He waved a hand toward Raisa’s cage. “She may be released to her rooms and kept under house arrest.”

He turned back toward all who stared at him.

“I have served this post longer than most, and in that time I have made both friends and enemies. But I have never seen such political discord as I do now, and I bid each of you to take enormous caution in your vote. Let each man stand on his own merit, and vote with your hearts.”

The last light of day spilled back over the horizon and now only darkness and starlight dances across the ocean beneath them.

i'm honestly stumped by the motives behind his declinning to challenge Bova, instead appointing a younge and unknown Captian as his replacement.

with the last bolded bit ... it seems like his motives are that he's tiered of politics and sees the best way for the Captians to unite is under a "Fresh Start" (a new person)

next is Raisa

At this point, that mattered little as her death was assured by the murder she had just committed.

But none of that mattered. it didn't matter if they killed her now, and it didn't matter if they put her chains and drug her all of the way back to the Arch.

She had done what she could, the rest would just have to happen as it would...

to me this shows that she had the best intentions at heart by this murder.  it's unkown what side she is on or what thos eintentions are, just that they were pure and she believed in them enough to not care that her actions had lead to her death.

Think long and hard…”

here is where the confusion starts.

the Minister planted the information which lead the the death and lit the political revolt taking place now.  he couldn't have known that the murder would actually happen, nor that the murderer would be Raisa.

the fact that he expresses surpise at the actual murder does suggest that he expected the murderer to be caught before they could commit the murder.

what confuses me is how the murder could be protecting the Minister, as Raisa believes ...  for this we will need more information that hasn't been given.  my guess is that it either has to do with the Minister's suspicion of a revolt and he confided this to Raisa and the man murdered had something to do with planning the revolt; or it has soemthign to do with the Monks and their control, which is a sticking point in Bova's arguements.

also is that when the Minister looks at Raisa, he feels a mixture of Pity and Anger.  there are two reasons for this, and only one can be right

if the Minister is part of the unknown manipulators, then

Anger - at himself for letting Raisa be the fall guy

Pity - because she is the fall gay

however, if he isn't behind the consperacy and pulling the strings

Anger - at Raisa for acting rash and putting him in this predicament

Pity - because she might lose her life in protecting him against an invisable threat

To your first post...

The last bit could also so be that when you know there is a mutiny brewing, you know that your days are numbered. After things like this it is hard to pull back from it, plus by adding a new person he choose, means that he is talking control pof the situation by offering someone new to the set up. The Bova was expecting to go against him. With the dissent he had heard, he may have felt it would hard to win, so chose his successor and surprising the opposition. It happens in normal politics!

Posted

the second post..

It could be that someone close to the Minister knew of this information plant and set him a Raisa up to set up someone claiming Bova against him.

It maybe:

Anger; he thought he was in control, planting that information, and it backfired on him

Pity: because Raisa was used in this way

next is Bova

He shook his head now, a sneer coming into his voice, “The Nineteenth would see us neutered. He put an end to the Swifts. He made it illegal to attack any ship unless under attack, or under conditions of war. He…married a witch…” He paused for just a moment.

“…And we are at peace. Our numbers grow, and our profits are greater than they’ve been before. But how far will this go?”

“On this very night, one of our own, Raisa, has been put into the cages under the Arch to be tried for murder. But Raisa did not break any of our laws…she’ll face trial because of the laws of the Floating Prayer Cities.“

Why did she cut Handal’s throat? Who knows, but that is between her and her Captain. Not some Monk who has been offended and demands justice! That Monk and his city live because we supply them with everything they need! They bow to us, not the other way around!”

Nods of assent came now, and a grumbling swelled from the crowd. It was time.

I declare myself Bova Perrada. I will challenge the Minister’s reign, and by The First, I will take his seat and bring order and dignity back to The Hall! Will you join me, brothers? Will you become Bonds Perrada, and make our society as grand as it was meant to be? What say you…?”

“I thank you, brothers. I will declare myself tonight in order to forestall judgment against Raisa. We will have 21 days to either win the support of Sel Arren. Let us not waste a single one.”

there are 3 points behind Bova declaring himself and challenging the Minister

- the 19th "nuetering" them

- the Monks control and dictating the laws

- Raisa's imprisonment

the first two reasons would have been long standing, and it seems like Raisa's imprisonment is being used to bring emotion into the equation and light a fire under the movement.  that Raisa's imprisonment is the proverbial "breaking point" for tensions.

and again, we see that like the Minister he calls Raisa "one of our own" creating a direct connection between them and her.

now it begs the question of Tayla's guess that both Beva & Bova are town; that both are fighting for the same thing and the undecided or unkown 1/3 are pulling the strings.

it happens alot, two people are arguing the same points with different words and a 3rd party uses the choas to achieve a hidden agenda.

The brash Captain stood up to the Dias and bellowed to the crowd.

“I do not wish to see Raisa die! Do you?”

More calls of protest came from all sides, not just the men that had gathered around this Captain.

“So tell me this, good Captains…what need do we have of the Monk’s laws when we are standing on our own soil?  What need do we have of the Monk’s laws at all?”

Now the rumblings came this man’s group. Everyone else was silent. They knew what was coming.

The Captain straightened himself.

“I’ll not bore you with some long winded speech. I’ve come here to save the life of one of our own. And in the bargain, I’ll cast shadow over the man that would see her die.”

He waited now, to let that last sink in.

“I’ll cast shadows over many of the decisions made by The Nineteenth. And then I will tell you that better decisions could have been made.”

He stood to his full height.

“I declare myself Bova Perrada and invoke the custom of challenge to the current Minister. As of now, I have no name. I only live to serve The Hall.” He held both hands out palms up. “It is done.”

Cheers went up from his group, and from a few other well-placed people in the crowd.

The Captain stepped back, making room for the Minister to answer the challenge.

again, Bova further clarify's the 3 sticking points for why he is challenging the Minister

- the 19th

- the monks

- Raisa

Posted

I don't thik Bova and Beva are town, I think their supporters are as are the undecided, but interspersed with those will be the mafia, who know which out of Bova and Beva is the mafia head.

Also the ballot will be in secret, so will have no idea how each of us vote.

But I agree he uses those 3 points both times, and Raisa as the emotion behind it all. Now he could feel she is wronged in this, or set her up and using the situation!
