He replied to that line saying,

"This is the kind of awesome line I love the wot for.  You miss it the 1st time, but years later, it blows your mind."

Welp.  Guess we might be seeing the Palace get messed up.

You mean we won't see a Forsaken leap out of the fireplace?  :P

This isn't Harry Potter, no Death Eaters jumping out of Fireplaces. *heh*

Yeah pretty much.  Although when you think about it, (i) a Forsaken was in the room (Semirhage/Anath), albeit, not leaping out of the fireplace, (ii) although that same Forsaken actually appeared as flames in a fireplace in KoD (talking to Suroth), and (iii) Rand almost nuked that palace at the end of tGS.

Like Brandon said, you'd kind of have to miss that line the first time, only makes sense in a re-read.

Now 160k words does not in any way mean that they have to be entire chapters pulled out, so these numbers may be kind of misleading anyway - and the quote from Brandon falling in a Mat section seems to be some pretty strong evidence, as it seemed that Brandon was reading through that section at the moment and we know he'd just said he'd be reading for this research.

We should also keep in mind that Brandon said he has 5 scenes to write. It is more than logical to conclude that the scenes may cover more then one set of of characters. Thus it's quite possibe that the scenes and the 160k of material encompass Elayne, Mat and Perrin.

You can bet it'll be interesting when Lord and Lady luck meet again.  He'll be Odin and she'll be fortune.  Semirahgue did chastise Moridin for not telling them what Mat and Perrin looked like.  She could've balefired Mat, found that the balefire evaporated and brought the roof down on him.  As for the foresaken using the flu ;D network, could be Greandal since I'm as positive as I can be that she didn't die.  As for Elayne we have to see the ingathering, anything that happens with Duhara, remember, there are still 8 black sisters and some other dangerous people that she could free.  Plus we have to see who's going to lead the Andor army Gawyn(doesn't deserve it) Birgitte or Mat.

Didnt grasp that when i read it, it is promising though that brandon likes forshadowing like that, or irony. Hope he fixs mats character and finishes off with two awesome books now.

New tweed from Brandon Sanderson today:

About 150 pages of 450 pages worth of my WoT rereading is done. The next sections I write will be the last new material for this book.

That line is from Mat point of view in Ebou Dar, in front of Semirhage as multiple other individuals have already mentioned here previously.

He stood there waiting for one of the Forsaken to leap out of the flames in the marble fireplace, or the earth to swallow the Palace beneath him.

Winter's Heart, Chapter 17 "Pink Ribbons" - Mat Cauthon's point of view.

Maybe we shall see read of one popping out of a Fireplace?  :o

As the inside of the Tower of Ghenjei is surely going to be lit up with fires almost everywhere when Mat, Thom and the 3rd man end up fighting the nasty Eelfinn to try to save Moiraine.

Might that be Lanfear, who is both a Chosen and an Aes Sedai of a past era?  ;D

My money is on the black tower story arc. If he had to do 160k words worth of research it's probably not something easily remembered from reading. Nothing like the names of all the known Ashs'man, what they look like, and whose side they are on.

So a little while ago Brandon Sanderson posted this:

"Just cut out 160k words of chapters in WoT 9,10,11 and put them in one file to read. Should be my last research needed for TofM."

So, based on the books mentioned, what do you think he's researching? Surely with all of us together we can figure this out.

Dragonmount, I choose you!

That is quite large amount of text to cut out and research-160k words.   Another way to look at this 160k words, is to see it as 19.38% of those combined three books:

WH - 238,789 words

CoT - 271,632 words

KoD - 315,163 words

825,584 total words in WH+CoT+KoD books

160,000/825,584= .193802

Or one can see as roughly 1 in 5 chapters marked for research by Brandon Sanderson, for Towers of Midnight.

Kudos Dida, this is maybe the only sensible thing you've ever said! :)

It's truly a shame that I can't specify a brown font for posts like this...to reflect their place in the toilet.

Dude, how the heck did this thread get hijacked and turn into Elayne bashing? I for one don't think I hate any of the characters the way some people on here seem to hate Elayne, Egwene, Faile, Gawyn, Cadsuane and others ... I actually really like most of the characters, and the others I feel more ambivalent towards rather than hating them.

Anyway, to get this back on track:

From his Twitter:

He stood there waiting for one of the Forsaken to leap out of the flames in the marble fireplace, or the earth to swallow the Palace...

That's Winter's Heart, chapter 17, page 421 in the mass-market paperback edition I have. It's about Mat & Tuon then, because he meets Tuon in Tylin's chamber and the dice in his head stop with a loud bang or something.

I like it. This seems promising for a possible Mat and Tuon reunion to me.

However, if we add up the number of chapters per character PoV for Elayne, Perrin, and Mat that Charlz Guybon put up on the first page of the thread, we get: Elayne 22, Perrin 20, Mat 27. The total number of chapters for the three books is 107 (counting prologues and epilogues as chapters too). So Elayne and Perrin both seem to be close to a fifth of the books, the number Dida came up with, but if it's the Mat/Tuon story arc, the number seems a bit high (and would be even higher if you add in the couple of chapters with Tuon PoV).

Toun's POVs are combined with Mat's in that number, and some where in the same chapters IIRC.

He probably didn't immediately suspect Anath of being Semirhage when he first read that sentence 10 years ago. Also Semirhage walked out wreathed in flames before Suroth later on.

No reason to believe the palace will be swallowed up by the earth because of that.

Thanks for the clarification, I didn't know you'd added the Tuon PoVs into that (I can think of one where it's just her and not mat - her very first one, where she's still on a ship -  but you're right, the rest of her PoVs have Mat in them anyway :))
