Welcome to the Great Big List of Things We're Thankful For!

We try to do this thread every year and it's nice to see the self-affirmations getting posted. I think they help us out as much as we help each other!

For me, I thought it might be a good time to reflect on the curve balls that have been thrown at me this year and be thankful for the ones I dodged (and some that I caught that weren't as bad as we thought!).

My biggest one for this year... Dana's loss of a job. Therefore, I am thankful that he has one, even if it's only 'til the end of the year. I pray that his old group is able to pull enough strings to get his contract after the first of the year, but, for now, I'll be happy he has a job, at all!

It's nice to reflect on the ups and downs of the past year or so, and look at it from a new perspective.

Lots and lots of crazy stuff has happened in my life in 2009.  This has been an utterly mad year.  I've had good experiences with various things, and I've seen people I care about throw their lives away and make stupid decisions.  I've gained friends, lost some, lost weight but injured my foot/ankle....

*shakes head* I'm sure it's the same for everyone: the list goes on and on.

The biggest thing I'm grateful for at this moment would have to be how things have played out with my best friend/Warder/boyfriend.  It's been a long road to get to this point, and sometimes it amazes me that we have known each other for only 2 years or so.  So much has happened in those 2 years, it seems like a lot longer sometimes.  I am truly grateful to have him in my life, and always have been.  Friendship and companionship, understanding and acceptance, those things are priceless.

And I'm grateful for being able to take/continue DM friendships offline, too.  DragonCon was amazing; there were some negative repercussions from me going, but it was more worth it.  I got to meet amazing people, some of whom I knew from DM already, and that was fantastic.  Knowing someone online and off makes things so much better.

*smiles* Congrats, Urs! :D

I'm glad you're falling in love with DM the way we have, Locke! Watch out, it becomes EXTREMELY addictive the older you get. ;) I'm 31, I can say that!

*grins and hugs mmeesh* I love it when all the trials are worth the payoff! Especially when you get to the payoff and still remember what the trials were! Give that wardie and extra smooch for helping make it a positive thing, too!

Things I'm grateful for today:

1- My daughter is healthy... and smart. *smiles*

2- Knowing that I have a party I'm doing on the 1st for my BUNCO group and I'm not worried about having enough money to handle it.

3- I only have to work 2 days this week.

4- Having a boss that supports me because she knows I'm doing more than my job. She trusts me enough that she asked me to go handle a situation with my kids from last year, too. I had to turn her down and she was still smiling at me when I left Friday.

5- I did mention only having to work 2 days this week, right? ;)

Congrats, Ursula, that's great! :)

Ah, 2 days of work, Lor....Lucky duck! ;)

Right now I'm grateful for having parents.  No matter how much I want to be a grown-up and independent, I will ALWAYS be grateful that I have a mom and dad who care about me, and will help me when I need it.  They answer questions I have about "grown-up" stuff, they teach me skills and give me knowledge I need to succeed, and they still parent me sometimes (not always a curse, though it feels that way sometimes).  If I really need advice and suggestions for the path to choose, they never fail to help me and lay out good options for me to choose from.

I'm also grateful for DM at the moment, and my laptop.

Grateful for my cell phone, and grateful that even though my paycheck is going to be pathetic, I'm getting paid tomorrow.  I NEED that money. ;) :D

I'm grateful that I had enough money on Friday to A) go with my brother and his GF to see New Moon, and B) buy The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson at the Waldenbooks that was in the mall (we browsed there for a while, during our 2-hour wait for the movie to start).  Our library only has the first Mistborn book and no other Sanderson books.  So I've been waiting for a long time (it seems) to read the next books.

You need to beat your librarian, mmeesh! Seriously!

I'm thankful for having an awesome evening, even if my day was crap!

I'm thankful for the brilliant person who opened a Melting Pot restaurant close enough to eat up my paycheck every chance I get.

I'm thankful for my warder, who lets me talk him into stuff.

and I'm thankful for you all because even when the crazy time of year comes up, you're still hanging around and talking to me! *hugs and smooches* I love you, guys!

Oh tons of stuff.

- Thankful for the fact that my Dad is still with us despite some very scary brain surgery

- Thankful I can work from home and it seems to be going well

- Thankful for all 4 of my bondeds who manage to brighten even the worst days

- Thankful for great friends at DM; special mentions to Twinnie for happy mail and chats over cups of tea, Kara for always being only a text away and Owen... well, Owen because he's one in a million and I'm honoured to be able to call him friend.

- Thankful that, in spite of my health always being dodgy, I feel better now than I have done for years

- Thankful for my family helping me out of a very sticky situation recently

- I'm thankful for the water in my toilet to leak, so I have to close it down, so that I appreciate much more when I can turn on a fawcet without first having to hover over my toilet to open the waterline again.

- I'm thankful for the constant pains in my back which makes me appreciate the miracle of cortisone injections

- I'm thankful for the shoebox I live in which allows me to keep my sense of awe whenever I enter a room that can hold ten people

- I'm thankful for non-stop sneeze and cough attacks throughout the year which helps me remember to be greatful for the flu shots to keep the bronchitis, flu and pneumonia's away

- I'm thankful for the mess in my apartment which helps me appreciate the clean smoothness of my monitor and helps me focuss on that while ignoring the mess

- I'm thankful for the consideration of my Souvra for giving me another item to add to my other Souvra's list, thus helping me prove my statement to them even further.

- I'm thankful for my shower not working so that it takes three times as long to wash my hair which allows me 'quality time' with myself a bit more.

**Sigh**

Sometimes it is so hard to look at life and find things to be thankful for. I am glad that I have everyone here to help me remember the good things.

1) I have food. No one is going hungry in my house

2) I have a great family. Loving husband , wonderful kids

3) I am healthy.

4) I met the good people here at DM.

I have ten reasons to be thankful right now: Myrdden,Elric,Morwenna,Ryath,Loke,Miko,Thor,Smaugh Valar and Froya. Whenever i get down, all i have to do is spend some time watching them. Nothing like ten young cats to keep you amused 8)

Oh and i have been "told" that i must mention someone beginning with "T"..........but for the life of me i cannot remember the rest of the name*ggls*

Thankful that even though I don't get a mention, I'm indelibly etched in a certain brain pan.

Thankful that even though it cost me $5K to find out I was full of shyte and hot air, I didn't have a failing chest pump.

Thankful for a roof over m'head even though the mental environment in which I reside stinks to high heaven.

One more year not an orphan, that's good, though hanging around is real hard on my progenitors.

Thankful that with a new WoT book there are new folks about I can alienate with my smart arsed posts in other parts of DMLand, though my most egregious snarky remarks still seem to find their way to the "Usual Suspects". Not here of course!  ;D

Thankful that my continued expertise with cryptic English confuses the beejeesus outta most (not all) people I direct remarks to, so they've no idea what I've said.

Thankful my ol' 88 Mercury Land Yacht is still running like the spry ol girl she is...

Finally... Thankful that my remaining 'banded" is still kickin' up her heels, if not so high.... like the spry ol' girl she is ;) :D  .. Love you Twin :-*, but then you knew that 8)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAND! I'm thankful for something that hasn't happened yet but will happen soon a I will get to boast about it and you all will go green with envy! (you will! I decree it so).

*forgoes poking and just whacks over the head multiple times*  :P

*smirks* Now, if we all ganged up on him and RP'd it, would that make it less likely for him to find a wiggle out of? ;)

And Manny, did you really just compare my sister to a land yacht? *smirks* you're going to be in soooo much trouble when she sees that...

I'm thankful that, with Dana finally working again, we can afford the 3 hour visit to the car doctor that my car has taken today.

I'm thankful for my blackberry, which allowed at least an hour and a half of that time not to be spent drowning in a sea of boredom.

I'm thankful for my Peanut, who makes me smile every morning, even if she makes me wrestle her to brush her teeth. LOL

Oh... Hell and Death! :o  I reckon it could be looked at in such regard. Though it were not the intended jibe  ;). Noooo.. What I reckoned would gain me a broadside to the After Cabin was the "spry ol' girl" phrase. Now there's TWO sources o'trouble that's got me weather guage.

"Gnarly! Gnarly there!! Clear for Action ya son-of-a Sethian Bilge Rat. There's liable ta' be rough weather ahead! I've done sailed us in ta' unsettled sea's agin' ain't I?"
