Faile or Tuon

Both have extreme personalities, you could say, for a woman.

But Tuon is going to be a challenge for Mat which I would love to see-especially since she considers one kiss after another as 'greedy.'

I think i prefer Faile. but only by a hair. I think she has let us actually 'see' Perrin for what he is. She also loves him and he loves her. At the moment Tuon married Mat for the good of the Empire. Also Faile isnt the one invading and causing more problems for Rand. but at the same time Mat has now given Rand some leverage of the Seanchan.

I like Tuon better. The only thing I dislike about her character is how quickly she dismisses trollocs, shadowspawn, and basically anything she has never seen. Then again, most of the characters in WoT are like that.

I wouldn't mind if Faile died.

I like Tuon because she appears at a time where Mat develops a lot faster, and I generally enjoy the parts where Tuon is involved. She makes me laugh , snf I dont think she is annoying, like I do Egwene, Elayne, Faile and again, Faile.

I like how Tuon effects Mat, and I like the title he gets from marrying her, Prince of the Ravens. it fits in with all the "Fox that makes the Ravens fly" and having a raven on each shoulder. Daughter of the Nine Moons, and Prince of the Ravens. Both good titles.

Notice that all three Ta'veren gain a link with the Seanchan in Knife of Dreams, and each without the aid of the others, without even knowing about the others. I suppose the fact that all three have have their own link with the Seanchan now really shows the need of the Seanchan in the Last Battle. Another good way of showing how Rand, Mat and Perrins Ta'veren ability are linked.

Tuon, she seems more like a person than that witch. I feel Faile ruined Perrin, and since Faile made me hate Perrin I could never like her. While I will state I dislike most of the main women in the book, Faile I hate 10 times more than Egwene. Tuon is my favorite female in the book next to Min.

Isn't Tuon now the Empress? What would that make Mat?

``but at the same time Mat has now given Rand some leverage of the Seanchan.''

But it has also given Tuon some leverage with Rand, which was part of the point of her marrying Mat.

The title may not change. IIRC, we don't know yet what title the consort of the Empress bears. But Tuon is not yet officially empress. She has to be crowned in Seandar first. The reaction to her when she arrives in Ebou Dar, having plainly ``removed the veil'', makes it clear, tho', that she now has the authority of the empress. De facto but not de jure.

If I told you I saw a bunch of dragons soaring over my head yesterday, you would react in much the same way, I think.

Tuon is acting perfectly humane there. It is natural to not believe in something until you actually see it or have some other concrete evidence for its existence.

Normally, yes. However, the Seanchan brought several beasts never seen before on Rand's side of the ocean, so how hard is it to believe that there are actually creatures you have never seen before? Its more the fact that she completely dismisses even the possibility of any actually existing. I guess its just me, but I can't dismiss something completely unless I have hard evidence to show it does not exist.

Aha!

But to them, the creatures they breed are normal.

Would anyone in Randland have believed in flying creatures like raken, if told they existed beofre actually seeing them?

They look upon raken the way we look on normal animals like lizzards.

They look upon trollocs then way we look on dragons/other mythical stuff.

True, but the Seanchan are now on unfamiliar ground. I would suspect things I have never seen if I went to a place where they have never seen beasts I find normal. The Seanchan have already come across something they were not used to, AS and women that weren't collared. I'm sure Tuon has heard about shadowspawn from more people than just Mat. She even blew off ta'veren, and thats not like believing in dragons.

I guess it could be that I'm influenced by the fact that I know they are real, but I am generally open-minded about everything, especially what I am unaware of.

Perhaps, perhaps....but AS are people and not collaring them in Randland is a decision made by its populace.

Trollocs etc are actual different creatures. And lets not forget that while the people of Randland were amazed by the Seanchan creatures, there were no creatures in Randland that the Seanchan hadn't encountered already. So there is no reason for them to expect any creatures they have not seen before.

Even many people in Randland didn't believe in trollocs!!!!!!!!!! And they surely heard plenty of tales, even first-hand tales.

You're right. I guess with most of the characters dismissing things they deem impossible throughout the story, no matter the evidence, I was a little irritated by the time Tuon came around. You have just made me like Tuon even more, which turns Tuon >> Faile into Tuon >>>> Faile. I'm still slightly irritated by it though, but that just shows how good the series is.

I like Tuon better.

Faile just gets on my nerves, I hate her nicknames for Perrin.ugh.

She's always so prickly when it comes to Perrin and a super jealous hag. ;D

apparently I'm the only person on the planet who doesnt hate Faile with a passion. Thats not to say I'd like to be in Perrin's shoes. I'd rather be in Rand's shoes than Perrin's. I'd rather jump into a pool of silverpike than be in Perrin's shoes. At least Faile is not so audacious as to think she can just buy anything she wants, whatever it may be. She works for whatever it is she wants with cunning manipulation. As opposed to just pointing and saying "I want that." though I suppose thats what comes with having supreme authority over everyone. I cannot bring myself to like Tuon for that fact alone.
