Could be a flash back, either a cold open in episode 8.  Or possibly part of Rands trip through the columns.  Either way is a plausible way to have Ishy this season without "bringing him back".

In an̈ interview with the Radio Times, Rosamund Pike said...

"We haven't neglected the Stone of Tear, we've just rearranged the order. There'll be debate about it, but instead of Rand, as you would expect, his next point on his journey would be to go and get Callandor from the Stone of Tear, we are going into the Aiel Waste first, because he needs to discover who he is. Obviously in the novels, there's loads of opportunity for the internal battles of Rand, coming to terms with being the Dragon Reborn - but we need to make that active. We can't do subjective thinking on film. So we need him to go and discover who he is by going to the land of where he comes from. So we're going to the Aiel Waste first and I hope you'll understand and appreciate why."

Soooo, maybe the Stone of Tear is where Ishy will get his, with Callendor

If thats the case it will be interesting to see if they rework his reasoning to move on Tear from proving he is the dragon to something else. Because if they keep it that would put it at the end of season 4 unless they are going to do away with any build up surrounding Callandor and halfway through the series is quite late for him to accept that he is the Dragon.

His sense of finding out who he is does not feel like it has been built up massively in the show either.

Ishy definitely died at the end of Season 2, so what looks to be happening is that the show is going to resurrect him like he apparently was in the books, just not with a different identity

Nobody is “resurrected” in the books. Wheel of Time is intentionally from the Eastern Worldview. They are reincarnated. I understand why logistically and cinematically the show is doing resurrections instead … or in Lanfear’s case they used the phrase “granted immortality” (tough to change out actors/actresses & hard to show and not tell “reincarnation”.)

I just feel it’s an important distinction…

i rewatched all the episodes prior to season 2.  can't motivate myself to rewatch this time.  but i did rewatch episode 8.  i'm waiting for the youtube recap on 'unraveling the pattern' which is coming soon.

i'm really hoping season 3 is the season that gets rid of all lot of the baggage that held back the first 2 seasons;  Perrin's wife, matt's bad family and change in actor, terrible season 1 ending, too much focus on steppin, not enough focus on the male characters, terrible season 2 ending fight scene against ishamael, etc.

It looks like a lot of this stuff naturally drops off anyway.  perrin is finally meeting faile and hopefully the wife never gets mentioned again after season 3, matt/perrin/rand all get more focus, and movement into the best books of the wot.  if they nail this season, the audience should grow significantly.  if not, it could be the end...

I don't think there's a distinction at all, as WoTTuber and die-hard book nerd Lezbi Nerdy just used the term "resurrected" in her most recent video to describe Ishy's return in the books.

As someone who studies religion(s) there is absolutely a difference and Lezbi Nerdy is wrong.

Resurrection means that there is a continuity with your physical body - you, in your body, come alive again and live forever. [This is the foundational Western Christian belief.] And is easier to do for a show because you don’t have to change actors/actresses.

Reincarnation is the idea that you have an immortal soul that is reborn into a new body (human or animal). This is basic belief of several Eastern Religions & what happens in WoT. Hard to show in the show that Isha’mael’s soul is in Moridin's body (I suppose you could have a different actor but have them copy mannerisms or something?). Though they have shown reincarnation through AoL flashblacks and the fact that LTT is a different actor than Rand (Dragon/Dragon Reborn don't have the same body).

I haven't seen the Lesbi Nerdi video though - and another thread made me aware of the fact that - even in the books - what happens with the DO and the Forsaken isn't, purely speaking, reincarnation or resurrection. Because the Forsaken's souls are put immediately into a new adult body. So - would need a new word for that. But I liked what the show did with Lanfear; though then they were rather inconsistent in making it seem like Ishy is really dead and gone (which in the books can only happen by balefire, which they are never supposed to do - but do all the time! lol)

S2E5, halfway around the episode moiraine is bare-shouldered, and she still has a scar from where she was hit in S1E1. nice attention to detail.

But didn't she get Aes Sedai healing for that and also get hit by Nynaeves healing explosion. Even if scarring tissue is not healed during those I'm not sure it would have had to time to scar over by that point as the wound was still infected and not fully healed over.

S2E8 has highs and lows. let's see

CON fight coreographies, pretty bad most of the time.

PRO perrin actually killing bornhald, it's got potential to work the conflict with dain a lot better than "my father charged into the fog and got blown up by damane, I'm sure it's all your fault somehow"

CON everything regarding egwene as damane is wrong. really, renna, just stop threatening and cut her tongue already

PRO bornhald had an actual battle plan, and it was a pretty good one. he also gave a good speech before, showing what the children of the light are at their best.

CON egwene holding off ishi for so long. i remember months ago arguing that it was fitting for her to be able to hold for a time, but on rewatch, i think it's just too long. besides, ishi could just cut that shield with spirit.

CON the way the seanchan soldiers keep charging the heroes of the horn. really, a bunch of mist coalesces into people midair, and you just keep charging?

PRO mat creating the ashandarei. others criticized the scene, but i liked the piece of out-of-the-box thinking.

CON elayne healing rand from the shadar logoth wound. it's an extremely difficult wound, and elayne (leaving aside that she sucks at healing, that's the kind of details they can change in the show) is untrained. really, there was nynaeve right there, she's established as the best healer, let her embrace the source just long enough to heal rand.

endings are complicated, and they have been the weakest parts of both seasons. of the first three books, as well. hopefully it will get better as the books themselves improve on the endings
