I agree with others, for me bonus material doesn't count.  What I see during the show is what counts, that should have been a scene when he left the ways then.  They could have cut a few seconds from Lan and Nyn going to dinner or the love triangle argument to add that if it was important.  I liked the episode but there were clearly spots that could have been trimmed a few seconds to add it.  IMO to try and toss that in  bonus material doesn't cut it and is a lazy way to try and explain something.

The love triangle argument made no sense, basically came out of nowhere, and isn't true to the books, but they decided to include that instead of the lore and function of the trefoil leaves ?‍♂️

This is fantastic, just listening to the director get exited about using a "Bolt" Camera mount for a TV show is great! And that is just in the first 2 minutes.

Excellent call on the Bolt cam. It slowed down and enhanced all the gorgeous detail of the fight choreography.

I'm so glad they show how The Ways were constructed, but I'm also not surprised by what I saw in this video regarding its construction. My only critique of The Ways in the episode was it felt like they never actually traveled any amount of distance, like they were walking in a tight circle the whole time...though this is the feeling one might get in a pitch-black space, so maybe it fits after all. It may have been more effective if the set was bigger/more complex.

 

I'm thrilled that the behind the scenes moments are being documented and shared with the fans.

I wonder of Best Buy sells Bolt cameras, that looks like so much fun.  I enjoyed the part about it could hit an actor in the head.

Interesting to see similarly budgeted fantasy shows running at the same time.

 

Witcher season 2 is showing what a $10 million per episode budget should look like. They also have taken similar liberties with the source material, but it is coherent and isn't a messy joke like WoT is turning out to be.

 

It's now embarrassing to talk about WoT show IRL

Nah. Witcher is fine. S2 is better than S1. But it’s not far superior to WoT.

I've watched the first three episodes of season 2 and I have no idea what the plot is.  It looks good, but it has given me no reason to care what happens next.

on a bit of a marathon re watch and i have to say most of the stuff that got to me on the first watch isnt half as bad on a back to back run through.

 

i think someone mentioned earlier it might be the kind of show that gains from a binge watch, not a traditional week by week release.

 

also, at the first watch all i do is get frustrated about whats NOT being shown...once im at peace with it, its no where near as frustrating.

 

especially now the reveal is done with Rand, im watching for little hints along the way

On the other hand perhaps you are only enjoying the binge after having had some time to digest/scar over the things you did not like at first?  No way now to see how a binge first viewing would have struck you though so it is a moot point at present.

I don't know anyone irl that watches it anyway. So I'm spared that much...until somebody sees me rereading the series and might make the connection, and I can see how that conversation might go;

"Isn't that some show on Netflix or Amazon or something?"

Season 1 of The Witcher is definitely not better than Season 1 of WoT.  Through 2 episodes, Season 2 of The Witcher is very good, but I'm not going to compare it against Season 1 of WoT.

At least in S1 of the Witcher, by episode 3 there was hint of where the season was going.

So far in S2, it has been monster of the week and Ciri training. A little bit of a character arc for Geralt in becoming more like Vesimir in mentoring Ciri.  Still, no idea what the goal of the season will be.  The secondary story with Yenn shows a path forward, but it is still the secondary story.

That is basically how it was for me.  However Ep7 I never had a moment where I was jarred by the adjustment from book medium to tv medium.   

 

I think, and while it is probably in part due to covid pandemic, that the episodes were designed to be binged in the following format

 

1-2-3

4-5-6

7-8

 

but also works (for me) with

 

1-2

3-4

5-6

7-8

 

And 1-2-3-4, 5-6-7-8 works with Ep4 having a strong mid-season ending (imo).  

 

But in the end there is no wrong way to watch the show - whatever way works best for our enjoyment.
