Y'all did great, this game is tough and all that. I would actually like to talk about the high tensions now that we are all on the same side, if we can do that peacefully. I've played quite a bit of mafia, this is probably about my 35th game and this game had more personal shots at people than I have ever seen before. In my memory, the game used to be about what was said, logically building a case. Not who you're friends with, who you know best, and who you don't want to be a wolf. Now I personally feel like I shouldn't be playing because I'm no longer in the "in crowd" that all know each other. I'm not saying meta is bad, it is effective sometimes, but this game was entirely too personal the whole way through.

Not even talking about Nyn btw, because what she said wasn't actually intended to be hurtful, it just ended up striking something and that is. Whole separate and private issue between those involved.

Well put, this is the major criticism us "older" players have with the newer methods. They work, sure......but they aren't fun, and I play this game to have fun. When that fun is removed, I don't play.

Hence why I no longer play much.

I said the same thing in dt. I am more than aware of how the game is played elsewhere and how personal it can get but I didn't expect it here. I also explained that my reaction to what was originally said was a major overreaction. I should have spoke with Sooh about it but I didn't and that was my mistake but I often spoke to "shanti" about how warm and welcome it is here. Of course there are always exceptions to the rule because "that's just them". I understand that what was said was something completely not personal but I have apologized for my overreaction. That's all I can do. Everyone else on this site has defended some people saying, "if they knew even part of the circumstances then they would apologize" but that's untrue and we all know it, because "that's just how they are". I'm about to make your day though darlin because this is my last time on DM. But I'd like to leave you with one final thought, since you aren't like me and don't know how to apologize about even unintentionally doing something wrong I'll hand some of your own advice back to you

Gfy!

Wait, whoa.  Are you aiming that at me?  I......didn't even play this game.

There is actually a difference between making jokes and being rude. Just FYI.

Fair point, not everybody will get along gloriously, and people need to learn other's limits and respect them.

Fair point.

I left out the "gif", I thought that was enough to differentiate.  I'm prepared to pay royalty to Z if necessary, though.

Also lol at the concept of me apologizing. People who get butthurt over nonsense and percieve something in a totally different way than intended are likely to do that on a day to day basis because that's their nature. And it's also entirely not my problem.

This was a pretty high "negative tension" type game, which is unfortunate ... but it's hard to honestly say it's not going to happen now and then. It's a chaotic game with a lot of moving parts (specifically people) and it can be hard to predict action / reaction with people.

In regards to the blessing of having returning players from a different DM era (which I feel is not as dissimilar from the current "meta" as people think), I feel the circumstances are very different than in the past (specifically toward Verbal's assessment). There's gonna be some friction between playstyles, but that's pretty common with same-era type players as well, and I think the important part is that retention seems more plausible than the past. People are staying for multiple games, discussions re: environment tend to lead to people have open discussions on how to improve (Sooh's DT posts in particular I think are fantastic) and we have players are sticking around to have those conversations rather than leaving outright.

Things I've learned in my little werewolf journey: being civil and considerate of others improves everyone's experience, including your own; you can play competitively without being caustic; communication can be difficult and improving communication can be a difficult process, so using the game moderator as a resource to keep issues out of thread can be a very valuable path to go down.

Adella/Shanti/Tigraine (and anyone else put off by events in this game) ... I really really hope you stick around Mafia a bit longer. In many ways where this Mafia forum chooses to go from here in terms of atmosphere, competitiveness and environment are all up in the air, it's something each of us contributes to ultimately. I think most if not all the static playerbase here desires the same thing - enjoyable, fun games. I don't see why that can't be delivered a high percentage of the time, just requires tactful communication to offset the natural growing pains.

Cory, I appreciate and recognise that all of that is correct. It is absolutely a game where you have to do your best not to take anything personally. However, it's also the type of game where, when it's over, you have to be able to say "I don't really think you're stupid, I hope we are good" or else people aren't going to know. That's the issue with the internet, you can't read tone, so if someone sees things in a different tone than implied, you have to step up and clear the air yourself. Admit when you're wrong, and make nice with everyone.

On a different note, I personally am starting to see the benefits of combining the old and new playstyle. We can't solely hunt scum or town, it has to be both. Eliminate those who are most likely to be town from suspicions, and then scum hunt from the remaining pool.

This is just ridiculous on so many levels

I can agree with you there.

I actually see all sides here. And it's not like I'm picking on you, I actually specified in my first post about this that I wasn't even talking about you. If you want to talk about why I don't agree with you, I am happy to discuss it if you want to send me a PM. I just assume you don't care to actually agree.

Do we get to see the scum qt? I am curious as to the thought process that was behind such a great play from scum team. I wanna see how close I was. :p
