  1. After watching this trailer several times, my excitement for Season 2 has returned back to what I felt before watching Season 1. As long as I realize what the Amazon Prime series is, which is a condensed adaptation of 14 books of my most favorite fictional series of all time..... and what Brandon Sanderson once said is the story told after another turning of The Wheel, then I will be able to enjoy Season 2. I am hopeful that this season will be even better than the first season.

My favorite line of the trailer is when Suian Sanche says to Rand al`Thor, "You are not a spoke, boy. You are ... the water that turns the Wheel itself" I got to admit that I got goosebumps the first time I heard her say that to Rand in the trailer. I really hope that line makes the final cut in one of the episodes.

Count me in as not a huge fan of this part of the ending. He should have just died. If the show lets him die, that's fine with me. Coming on the heels of Galad, Lan, and Faile all unexpectedly surviving when they should have died, it started to get excessive. I was actually expecting them to come back as heroes of the horn and was surprised it only happened to Noal.

I am a big fan of the ending. I expected Rand to die by sacrificing himself to lock the dark one away. So, I was pleasantly surprised that Rand survived.

I mentioned it in the Ep8 thread but I think that Verin could have an even more interesting role as a knowledge source in the series if they really lean into the fact the Aes Sedai are wrong about prophecies, that they have maybe forgotten aboutt he dual nature of the One Power (or it is has been erased by Black Ajah) etc. Her identity gives her a huge knowledge advantage over practically everyone in Randland.

I initially thought Loial could be this source (if they ever let him finish a sentence! Poor Loial) but Verin makes sense and it could lay little hints of her identity as well.

I wonder with storylines being compressed if we will get the Black Tower, Asha'man and Taim a lot sooner than the books. Maybe early season 3. This would also keep Logain around sooner than he appears in the books which would match with Rafe's comment that he'll return "sooner than you think but later than you'd like".

One thing I am curious about - with having to condense and compress - will they go ahead with Taimandred instead of splitting the characters?

I believe that if the show is going to get closer to the books' prophetical lore and also the back stories of characters as well as the books' histories that are foundational to a lot of the books' plot, then the best tv show character to do that is going to have to be Verin.

As for Taim and Demandred, I greatly would prefer if the TV show gives us 2 different characters as Robert Jordan did.

I've had criticisms of season 1 but they've all been things I've felt the show could recover from or move past. This 60 episode thing has me really worried for the long term future of the show though. It feels like this is an arbitrary target set by someone who doesn't know anything about the source material (sounds like a directive from an Amazon executive that they are trying to accommodate). I just feels like they are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Even if they trim the books down to the bare bones it's won't be enough time. I think we need to brace ourselves for major cuts if that's what they are aiming for

Major portions of the infamous "slog" from books 7 - 9 are definitely going to have to be cut in order to tell a coherent Wheel of Time story in only 8 seasons of 8 episodes each.

  5. ‘The Witcher’ Tops Parrot’s Digital Originals Chart, Pushing ‘Wheel of Time’ to No. 2

Amazon Prime Video’s “The Wheel of Time” dropped to No. 2 on the digital originals chart after three weeks in the top spot. Based on a series of fantasy novels, the show had 46 times the demand of an average series during the week after a 6.2% gain in demand expressions. “The Wheel of Time” was No. 5 on the list of overall TV shows.

It did, purely on the performance from Fain's actor. It made me frustrated that we haven't seen more of him to be honest.

He really is a great actor, in my opinion. I sure do hope that we see a lot more of him in season 2 than in season 1. Of course, if Rafe and Co. followed the source material in their filming of season 2, which is almost completed filming, then we should see a lot of Padan Fain for this upcoming season.

A question I just thought of regarding Moiraine.
If she was stilled, wouldn’t that release her from all oaths taken on the oath rod?  She would be able to return to TV without Siuan calling her back.

You are correct. If Moiraine was stilled, instead of shielded, then she would be released from all of the oaths she had taken on the oath rod.

Do we think Rand is actually going to do the battle at Falme? If they are mashing up books 2 and 3 I'm guessing he'll be doing the Tear thing and Falme will be left to other characters. It would be a shame if that happened IMO because it's another great Rand moment lost.

I hope that we get Rand in Falme and also in Tear for season 2.

Something I just wanted to check to see if I'm misremembering the books. But wasn't LTT the leader of the Area Sedai at the time of the breaking. The cold open seemed to show him speaking with the leader but I thought that was him. Kinda confused by that if they changed it I mean what's the point? It doesn't change the outcome.

Yes, LTT was the leader of the Aes Sedai at the time of the breaking in the books. However, the cold open in episode 8 implied that LTT was a co-leader of the Aes Sedai along with TPD.

I'm going to go with the obvious guess that they're combining books two and three.

Rand will go off alone like in book three, but then get sucked into a portal world with Lanfear. After that, he'll either end up in Tear or Falme. Seems likely he'll run into Min during his travels, and probably stir up some crazy Ta'veren shit in some towns he passes through.

Mat gets caught by the reds and healed, joins up with Thom, starts manifesting his luck power, beats up Galad and Gawyn, goes off to save Egwene after the Seanchen capture.

Egwene and Nynaeve join up with Elayne in Tar Valon, spend some time in the tower - Elaida will be there too, with backing from Liandrin against Siuan. Lots of politics. Eventually Egwene will be handed over to the Seanchean by the black Ajah, Elayne and Nynaeve will go to rescue her.

Perrin and Loial go hunting for the horn with Elyas/Hurin, Uno, and Ingtar. Perrin learns about his wolf powers during the hunt and meets Faile. This group will be dealing mostly with threats related to Fain and possibly whitecloaks.

Moiraine is shielded and feels humbled, realizes she has to let Rand find his own way for a while---he's the dragon, can't be shepherded so easily, the pattern will guide him better than she can.  She and Lan will spend the first half of this season on a research mission, looking for better prophecies and trying to remove the shield. The second half of the season will be about finding and rejoining Rand before the big climax.

I'm actually terrible at WOT geography, so it's hard for me to really picture how everything might play out on a map. Depends on how much they use The Ways and other fast travel methods. But I feel like everybody ends the season in the same place, which means we either get The Stone of Tear, or the battle at Falme, but probably not both.

Either way, we get the big moment with the horn, and the Seanchan will be in the middle of it. Probably also the Aiel. I fully expect to meet Aviendha next season

I really believe that your synopsis and prediction here for Season 2 is probably just about the best that we can hope for in this upcoming season given as to where the characters and the plot lines are after the end of Season 1.

Just want to put this out there as a general question; do we think people are more likely to like the TV show if they haven't read the books or more likely to like it if the have read the books? Not to get off topic but I find it interesting that the Netflix live action Cowboy Bebop show launched around the same time as WoT and from what I have heard about that, on average people who had not seen the orginal series (the anime) enjoyed it far more than people who had seen the orginal. Do you think a similar situation is going on here?

    Yes I do.

In fact, if the TV show does NOT have the vast majority of its fanbase be those whom are non-readers of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, then I don't believe that the show will be a big hit. As it stands now, Amazon is very pleased at the success of the show in all of its metrics for measuring success.

  12. Overall, from episode 1 - 8, I am giving season 1 a score of 7.5

If they could have stayed closer to the books with some better script writing, then I wouldn't have minded at all the many changes that Rafe and company made for the TV show.

Hopefully, they've learned from their mistakes, and there won't be another pandemic, and Season 2 will be a lot better than Season 1.

I'm a huge Star Trek nerd, and each and every one of the Star Trek TV series had a nice improvement in Season 2 as compared to Season 1.
