I have to say the number 1 thing I'd be happy with them changing is the ending to TEOTW haha. It's a massive mess and clearly the weakest of any of the books. It does need to feel properly climactic though - I'll be disappointed if they don't show the levels of ability we're about to start talking about because it really needs to convey that the dragon can actually tear the world apart both literally and figuratively.

On another note and as an outside shot on Liandrin's friend. I'm wondering if it could be Taim. I feel there's very little point making him an is he or isn't he dodgy type character.

I am assuming that the ending at the Eye of the World in the tv show will be different than what Robert Jordan wrote. However, I really do feel like  it needs to be similar with an epic climax that gives the majority of the viewers a huge payoff. If episodes 7 and 8 are not very exciting, then I truly doubt that season 2 will be successful.

I would also strongly advise people to listen to Loial and stop being hasty. Judging the entire show without seeing the entire season narrative it is trying to build is being unfair in my opinion

Although I have not been completely satisfied with any of the episodes, I still overall like the 6 episodes. But, if episodes 7 & 8 don't stick the landing and have the climatic ending similar to what Robert Jordan wrote, then I really don't believe that I will give a damn about season 2.

  3. I liked this episode. But this episode would have been MUCH BETTER if there was more screen time for Rand, Mat, Perrin. Please don't misunderstand me because I do like  all the scenes with Moiraine, Egwene, Nynaeve, Siuan, Liandrin, Allanna, and Logain. I truly do.

However, I don't like that there has not been enough character development for Mat, Perrin, and Rand. To me, it doesn't feel like non-readers of the series have been given enough of an opportunity to really care about 3 of the MOST important characters of the books.

I do like the 6 episodes but I feel like that they could have been better.

The show has definitely tempered some of the character's opinions when it comes to men/women. Indeed I'm not sure it's been brought up.

But to be fair, it wasn't the most present thing in book 1 since you're constantly with Rand and on the run. It comes up more starting from book 2 with Nyneave in particular. I'm sure they will smooth it out somewhat but I'd hope they don't entirely. Gender dynamics are an integral part of the books and somewhat symbolic of a world imbalanced in how they're potrayed, even if they're a bit cringy at times. I trust Rafe will be able to bring it to the show in a realistic way.

I really hope that the show will indeed present RJ's representation of Gender dynamics. Although to some, it might be a bit cringy, for me the dialogue and verbal interactions of those gender dynamics are some of the most entertaining and funniest parts of RJ's books.

  5. @Spiritweaver1  Like you, I also would like to see Bayle Domon, Elaida, and Morgase. I'm sure that all of us here on Dragonmount have a wide variety of tertiary, or even secondary, characters from the books that won't make the cut to be included into this onscreen adaptation. The book series is simply too long, and too massive. Minor characters are going to have to be either dropped completely or blended together with other minor characters. I believe that we could see Liandrin and Elaida blended together into one character. I believe that Queen Morgase will appear in season 2 or 3, but I doubt that she will survive Rahvin's takeover of her kingdom after she realizes that she has been under compulsion.

One of my favorite minor characters is Bayle Domon. I sincerely hope that Rafe has plans for my favorite smuggler that includes him being on screen in the following seasons for at least an episode or two.

100% agree.  WOT was well written.  There is no need to introduce fabricated scenes to help people understand a concept that isn't proportionately relevant until later in the story.  Use the story's scenes to do that as they were originally written.

The fact that Lan's scene at the funeral is so debated is a strong indicator that the effort failed.  Did Jordan's development of Lan throughout the books fail?  Did the understated scenes with Nyn traveling with Lan and Moraine fail?  Did the scene by the lakes in Malkier in the blight fail?

I get that there are almost polar opposite views on this so I'm not sure my argument will change anyone's mind.

Here is something to keep in mind about Amazon's adaptation of WoT. If the purpose of Rafe Judkins and Amazon was to produce the show in order to please book readers of RJ's work only, then they would not be targeting a big enough audience to make the show a huge success and justify the hundreds of millions of dollars already spent for seasons 1 & 2.

I believe that If this show is going to be a success, then it MUST have the largest majority of its audience come from viewers who enjoy watching fantasy but don't like reading door stop sized books. Considering that the show is getting mostly positive reviews from non-readers, then I believe that the show is well on its way to being successful.

Slayer is too one-dimensional, but is critical to the story as Perrin's white whale.  Perrin needs to develop his skills in order to fulfill his part of the final battle. I think that it's fair to say that Rand loses the final battel without the Perrin/Slayer storyline.

I agree. Although I wasn't a big fan of the over the top fight scenes in the dream world that Sanderson wrote for Perrin vs Slayer, there's no doubt that Perrin needed those battles to be able to defeat the Forsaken in the dream world.
