Rafe has decided that Robert Jordan's version of the WoT isn't good enough, so he's written Survivor: Randland instead.

If what you believe is true, then how is it possible that RJ's wife is approving Rafe's adaptation of her husband's beloved legacy?

Every interview of her that I've seen shows she is very pleased with this TV show.

    Two queries :-

Is Liandrin touching Moiraine meant to signify anything? The info on the prime page says they have a history. Is Liandrin trying to play on that to manipulate her, or what?

And what is the picture Moiraine is looking at? This has to be explained coming up, maybe when she meets Siuan, but I'd be interested in theories.

And "nothing in this show makes sense why are you looking for any meaning" is not an acceptable answer ?

I believe that it is a painting from Siuan that Moiraine is looking at in secret reminding her of the close friendship between the two of them.

one thing i can't tell, not even stilling the image: after perrin's eyes got golden the first time, did they revert back to brown?

will they give perrin some eye lenses, or will they use cgi every time they want to make the golden eye effect?

To me on the big screen TV, it looked like his reverted back to brown eyes.

But I'm looking forward to when Perrin is Lord Perrin Goldeneyes.

  4. For me, episode 5 was the weakest of the 5 episodes, but I still liked most of scenes and dialogue. My favorite scenes in this episode was Rand with Loial, and also Perrin & Egwene with the Whitecloaks. Logain's laughing at Rand and Mat was great to see. I enjoyed Padan Fain's cameos. Also, Eamon Valda's scenes with Egwene and Perrin was delightfully evil. The villains I love to hate the most are those who actually believe that they are doing the right thing, but the rest of us know just how wicked they are.

I believe that the scenes with Stepin, the suicide, and the ritual funeral at the end of the episode resonated well for non-readers of the WoT books. And that is a good thing. However, for most of us fans who've been reading the books for decades, we can rightfully feel as if at least 15 minutes were wasted in this episode which should have included scenes that followed EoTW more faithfully.

  5. As I noted on another thread, I have converted my non-book reader brother to watching The Wheel of Time series. He is enjoying the series. Yesterday, I learned that a young soldier on my team watched Episodes 1 -4 over the Thanksgiving Day weekend. Although he is hooked for the rest of this season, he told me that he likes "The Witcher" series on NetFlix better. His current theory as to who is the Dragon Reborn is Nynaeve. He thinks that the the "ginger guy" won't be the Dragon Reborn but will be bonded to Egwene.

He is interested in reading the books, however, I told him to not start reading EoTW until after the end of season 1 on Amazon. I don't want him to get any spoilers from the books before he finishes watching season 1.

It's a reference to Moiraine's earlier analogy, not his own description. The level of power he feels is more than he has ever experienced before. Like a raging sun compared to the candles of the Aes Sedai power weilded against him thus far. At least that's how I took it.

That is how I reacted to Logain's response as well to Nynaeve's mass group healing. Although I don't believe he saw Nynaeve's weaves, he did see the effects of her weaves. Also, in the books, when a male channeler is nearby a female channels saidar, the male feels goosebumps. I believe that Logain felt an enormous rush of the goosebumps on his skin as well as seeing the effects of all of those mortally wounded people suddenly be healed.

  7. I started reading The Eye of the World back in 1991. Since then, I would re-read the entire series at least once before the next WoT book would be published. After I read AMOL, I have read the whole series a few more times. The only other book series which I have re-read more than one time is Malazan Books of the Fallen, and Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere series.

Although I have read literally over a thousand novels in the course of my life, there is no other book series which has even come close to capturing my love the way that the Wheel of Time has.

For over a couple of decades, I've dreamed of seeing the Wheel of Time on television. So, even though Amazon's Wheel of Time is not exactly what I envisioned it would be, it is still a dream come true for me. I'm ecstatic beyond words that I we have season 1, and season 2 is in the works now, and also, according to rumors I've seen, Amazon has also greenlit season 3 as well. Also, Amazon announced that the Wheel of Time was their most successful original series of this year, and had one of their Top 5 most successful launches ever!! I am keeping my fingers crossed that Amazon's Wheel of Time will continue to be successful enough to give all of us WoT maniacs here 8 to 10 great seasons!!

I think of Star Trek In general as a bad visual but fun plot…it had terrible CGI and special effects in my opinion. Most of the Trek stuff historically is visually hilarious to be honest until the recent movies at least. Even after, it’s just a giant floating Apple Store with lasers and silly uniforms. But it’s got super fun plot and acting though. So it passes the smell test.

For the WoT we have fantastic practical effects, prosthetics, and sets. I enjoyed them so much just honestly just do it practical with as little cgi as possible and really really work on the script. Maybe make the clothes a little more lived in too. If they can do that they are there for me. Go in the direction of the Thing, the Blob, and Jaws for graphic violence.  Give me blood, horror, and inject as little CGI as possible surrounding monsters. Touch up only. The close ups right before Moiraine’s final hurrah in my opinion is the standard WoT prosthetic/cgi layering should be at. Have them frothing, give me spittle, more bloody smiles. I love it. Less weird CGI shots. Cut a dummy prosthetic in half. Blow it up after filling it with pig intestines. Whatever. More  tangible visuals.

*I feel like practical effect heavy especially in the foreground and cgi in background is something we’ve all recognized as a society as the best method historically… and yet they still don’t do it that way all around. I don’t get it. Maybe it’s just me?*

I'm in your camp. I greatly prefer practical special effects over cgi effects whenever it is at all possible to use practical effects that still look great.

So let’s all come to this topic agreeing on a few things.

    1. This show COULD be great and last 8 seasons.
    2. There is scenes that MUST be included to make our hearts happy.
    3. somethings have to be cut.
    4. Cuts are ok.
5 If someone wants to cut one of our fav scenes, we won’t get mad, but explain why it is awesome!!!

Now I would love to know everyone’s fav scene that they hope is present in the show, and then one  storyline we could live without.

Keep: Every single scene with the Aiel. They are my fav society.
Cut:The entire Ghealdon Storyline. The prophet… Elayne and Nyn butting heads and being annoying.. . I can live without all of this.

The only Aiel scenes that I don't want to see is all of the Shaido stuff after Dumai's Well.

Keep: Most, if not all, of the the scenes and storylines with the Seanchan.

Cut:  Most, if not all,, of the majority of the plot lines connected to the Bowl of the Winds.

  10. For over a week, I've been encouraging my youngest brother, who is 50 years old, to watch Amazon's Wheel of Time. He has never read any fantasy books in his life. But, he told me that after reading from Wikipedia the setting and basic premise section about WoT, he watched episode 1.

My brother said he enjoyed episode 1 and that it didn't feel like it was too difficult to follow. So, good news is this. He will watch the rest of the series. My brother has become a new fan of The Wheel of Time.

I've heard Egwene call Rand a bastard and Rand call Matt a prick (were there others I missed?). But I have yet to hear; wool headed sheep hereder, light burn you, or my favorite blood and bloody ashes. This despite there being situations where they could've been easily inserted into the dialouge.

While not a dealbreaker for me, I hope the show fixes this as I prefer RJ's in world "curses" as opposed to modern real world ones.

What are your thoughts? Prefer one or the other or was this a neutral change?

I agree with you. In a fantasy series, one of the things I enjoyed was when an author could immerse me into the world and culture of the books. Instead of only using modern cursing, I believe that the show would be even more entertaining if the cast were allowed to use some of our favorite curses from the WoT books.

  12. Overall, I'm giving the 3 episodes a 7 out of 10 rating. Right now, I'm going to say I loved it because the cast has really done an excellent job nailing down the personalities of characters I have loved for 30 years. The cast ain't perfect and I'm looking forward to seeing the improvement I believe is coming.

The pacing does feel a little rushed and I was hoping for a few more character driven scenes.

I wish that "Weep for Manetheren" could have been told to the entire village. RJ's final scene after that battle was more effective than what we saw onscreen. But Rosamund Pike still got me all misty eyed after she finished telling the four with her about Manetheren.

Also, I like that the Whitecloaks are now shown as a real threat to our heroes.

I don't like all the changes. But I am okay with why those changes were made.

I'm really believing that the rest of this season will get better and better.
