Did the series give you a deeper understanding of the books?
Mailman replied to expat's topic in Wheel of Time TV Show
I would say some people not many. The overall lean of the site especially post first season has been decidedly pro show. I have been repeatedly told that since I don't like the show maybe I should not be contributing that view or questioning why I am watching and contributing. If the show has brought people to the site or to the books then I am happy, do I think that the show has been a good advertisement for the books then the answer is no. Lets not forget that it was the pro show side that came up with the label of Book Cloak. I have been accused of being homophobic because I said that prioritising Siuan and Moiraines relationship over there drive to find and support the Dragon was a poor story choice. This despite me also saying that I did not think it was an impossibility for them to be in an active relationship. I have been surprised by a few peoples interpretations of the books, for example Rafes thoughts that Aviendha and Elayne had a sexual relationship with each other, something that IMO there is no support for in the books. -
Hard disagree with this. Corporations simply factor cost of being sued into their margins. If they believe that they will come out on top financially they will simply cop the payouts. This is what is happening right now with AI. Everyone knows that they are illegally using IP to train them. They are banking on the hope that enough people do it that the whole system is broken and it becomes impractical to sue or that the profits they can generate will outstrip the cost of the incoming lawsuits.

Faile is SO toxic! (The Shadow Rising)
Mailman replied to JeffreyBoring's topic in Wheel of Time Books
I think you have to examine it from viewpoint of her Saladean heritage. If you remember the interactions between her mother and father it seems that their idea of a relationship is very confrontational. Showing weakness is basically an insult. I think her mother described it as Faile was a strong woman and if Perrin was not strong enough she would be forced either to hold herself back or dominate him. For me it is almost the exact opposite to the sea folks relationships. Constant changes dictated solely by external seniority. I don't like the Saladean set up, the fact that Faile is unwilling to take into account the clearly different view of Perrin is infuriating. However it feels like it is set up to be purely an opposites attraction which leads to sparks is what I think Jordan was going for. -
They were not confirmed fortellings as Nicola was constantly angling for more advanced lessons by any means and some of her foretellings were suspect. If the foretelling was true it is possibly a reference to the Seachan as Tuon is the daughter of the nine moons.

I like blooper reels although this one was fairly standard. The Jackie Chan ones I always really loved.

Ah ok I thought you said in a previous post that they had gotten a 3 season renewal. Sorry if I misread a five season run for a 3 season renewal.

I have watched maybe 2 episodes in total of RoP and was not impressed it's ratings are lower than WoT but it's viewership has not fallen like WoT at least according to the numbers I could find from Nielsen. WoT s1e1-3 1.15B Wot s2e1-3 515M WoT s3e1-3 534M RoP s1e1-3 1.25B RoP s2e1-3 1.015B 50% loss of viewership that never returned even the critically panned and I would argue much more actively attacked RoP (in comparison with WoT) fared far far better. RoP has had large marketing issues as well you have only to look at the bizarre mega fans/influencers event where the people they invited had incomplete knowledge and even had a vision of a man urinating in a background shot. Quality does not always translate to renewal otherwise every piece of reality television would be burned from existence and Firefly would have run for 15 seasons. Yes I think vanity and other issues may have played a part in RoP getting renewed but it also has a far larger audience and retention of said audience.

Ah so you were using hater as a positive or neutral term? I take exception because you deliberately used the term negatively to encapsulate the entire viewership that did not like the show. As you have done repeatedly before. You used the label. I will not be further discussing this issue.
-
You opened the thread with hater and you are claiming that you are not labelling people. LOL
-
Yes you are. Believe what you want. I am sorry for those that enjoyed the show and have lost it. My personal dislike of the show does not affect my ability to sympathise for others. It may never get rebooted, it may take years or decades at least now that timer can be started.
-
I am not going to label them. You can do so if you want. I don't like the show. Personally I am glad that it is over as the sooner it is finished the sooner it might be possible to get something that is better. I am sorry for those people who enjoyed the show that they lost it.
-
What you are terming hate I call lack of quality. Fans of the show campaigned for it's continuance. The show would have continued if there was enough numbers to support it.
-
Yet you are high and mighty enough to declare the haters as the winners. No you don't believe me. I am sorry for those that are going to lose something they enjoyed, personally I am happy because I did not enjoy the show.
-
Looks like fans of quality adaptions, writing and television got their wish. Ultimately a small dedicated hardcore fanbase who have inflated season 2 and 3's rating in excess of it's actual quality do not have the numbers to sustain the series going forward. I am sorry to the fans of the show for who this has hit hard.

Amazon prime just cancelled the Bondsman (Kevin Bacon) after it's first season. Debuted with 563M minutes.

S3E8 - He Who Comes With The Dawn
Mailman replied to A Memory Of Why's topic in Wheel of Time TV Show
No one's ever really gone. Highly likely Loial if he is dead gets a return with the horn and maybe Siuan as well. -
There is an apparent drop down menu above the lists that seems to indicate I could select different countries but the button does not work so that would explain why. I thought it was held in some regard but I have no basis for why I thought that except for hearing it talked about a bit and being around for a long time. I am basing all my analysis on the data provided from it's site so if the site is inaccurate or poor then the analysis is of course corrupted by the underling poor source.
-
Of course not but it is usually the one referenced it is also the one that this thread in particular was centered around. I also cannot seem to get the site to show me other countries rankings so it's hard to compare them, someone else might be able to reference some information on nielsen rankings in other countries.
-
Tried to work out a bit more about possible position. There are 17 shows at least ahead of WoT across the separate Nielsen lists. Bobs Burgers which at the very best is 13th place has 633M minutes compared to WoT's 427M. This would at a guess place Wot in a best-case scenario somewhere around number 30 overall, but more likely a considerable number of places lower than that. For the first time I am starting to think it's possible they may not even do a wrap up season even.
-
Of course it is an achievement to get a ranking in a Nielsen top ten although it is in the original category and not the overall top 10. But for the show itself and it's hoped targets I cannot imagine it is great. For it's finale to be barely beating a show that finished 3 weeks prior can't be good. For it to have lost around 20% of its episode 4 audience can't be good especially considering the acclaim that has attached itself to the episodes. Word of mouth usually tends to have the opposite effect.
-
Its back in the top ten original series but it's because of other series falling not an increase in viewing. This is the finale I think as well very poor viewing numbers.

Wheel of Time Season 3 - Full Season Discussion

One video I found also pointed out that trying to defend the legs is difficult because your arms lack the leverage and position to defend against an opponent attacking from a lower position. -
