  1. That wasn't his claim. His claim was that every culture has gender roles and that those roles are universally complementary to one another. Which is very clearly what Jordan believed. This doesn't seem particularly controversial.
  2. So is just assuming that someone who uses "we" in that context is referring to literally all book readers. All it takes is a quick moment of reflection to realize that she clearly didn't claim to speak for every single book reader.
  3. Fine. Where does that get us? Is the claim now that Rafe is to blame for all disharmony among the WoT fandom? That's ludicrous.
  4. Indeed. So everyone just keeps coming back to beat the same dead horse. That's just not true. There was plenty of disharmony and division following Sanderson's entry into the series.
  5. It's a shame that all this discussion board has left in it is a constant and repetitive rehashing of the same tired arguments.
  6. No one said it made someone’s opinion less.
  7. I’ve hidden the last few posts as this thread is becoming unduly personal.
  8. You haven’t been here very long. Maybe go back and read some of my posts and then come back and tell me what I am deflecting. I liked the show. Although it was very different from the books, I’m glad they made it. I wish they would have finished it.
  9. What have I deflected?
  10. This word is doing a whole lot of heavy lifting.
  11. Doubtful. I don’t believe WoT can be “done properly” - if by that you mean a completely faithful adaptation.
  12. I guess we will never know since it will never be finished. But I would have preferred to see what he had planned than to never have WoT on screen. We’ll never get it now.
  13. I’m not sure how one becomes a “defender of Rafe” for simply pointing out that there would never have been a show without him. I guess the prevailing opinion is that having no adaptation of WoT is preferable to having Rafe’s admittedly imperfect effort. I do not share that opinion.
  14. I think they wanted to try to do more world building up front rather than simply adapt Book One. In hindsight, that was clearly a mistake.
  15. But he didn’t hear the louder, more consistent, complaints about favoring Egwene? Why would he fix one and not the other?
  16. Odd. Since she basically disappeared after S1. Disagree. The wolves were the effort to implicate Perrin. And MO’s conversation with Eggy + Eg’s apparent use of the power in the Ways were meant to be those efforts. She was, in no sense, a “main character” in that episode.
  17. This is entirely unverifiable. Cancellation is not the same as being "rejected by the vast majority" of fans. You can say that it didn't get good enough viewership, fine. But you do not have any clue how the "vast majority" of fans feel about the show. There are sizeable populations on both sides. There was nothing inherently wrong with bringing in a big star and centering her for S1. In fact, played differently, this could have been a strength. We didn't see any 'nations' in S1, and we have no idea of the 'sexual ethos' of anyone other than Emond's Field. These are personal opinions and not objective facts. Perrin, Rand and Tam all fought well on Winternight. Perrin led Egwene through difficult terrain to find the Tinkers. Mat heroically saved his sisters. Rand didn't 'complain,' other than to question Moriaine. Women had roles of leadership in the books too, or have you forgotten? Served the 'Who is the Dragon' plot line. Served the 'Who is the Dragon' plot line. Didn't happen in S1. Okay, maybe one point in your favor. But so minor as not to be worth mentioning. Served the 'Who is the Dragon' plot line.
  18. You’re going to have to defend this statement. Because I will argue that nearly every gripe you have about the show can be traced back to that plot choice.
  19. Something tv tries purposefully to avoid. If your tv show needs to explain a foundational concept multiple times from different perspectives, it’s failing.
  20. It’s neither of these things. What it is is simply a desire to dance on the show’s grave and point and laugh at all the people who enjoyed it. There’s no point engaging.
  21. Exactly!! I found the prologue incomprehensible the first time I read it too.
