Well although I agree with your idea of nits vs material things, I have to say that these being omitted *is not* very close to the books for me, but it could all work out if what is there is exceptionally done in the spirit of Jordan's book vision - its just to me, some of these scenes that are being dropped *are* the best way to express certain aspects of his vision and world-building early on; it remains to be seen if worthy substitutes or alterations work:

    • Baerlon (b/c of Min, Morraine vs Children of the Light)
    • Four Kings (b/c of Matt's condition and Rand taking care of him against Hake, and what Rand does but doesn't realize he did yet, and in the TV show I presume it would be the same for the audience not to know for a while in how they depict it occurring) - I think 4K is in from what I've seen
    • Whitebridge (b/c of Thom and what happens, and the awe of the bridge itself and a reminder to the audience of the at-this-point mysterious and largely unexplained AoL, and its world building)
    • Camelyn (this is a MAJOR omission and change for quite a few reasons which everyone knows, like omitting Bree in LOTR)

(are any of the above known to be included yet?)

I get the rationales given for all of these changes, but they each have their valid reasons for being included, and if I had one choice I could include it would be Camelyn, there's just too many cool and important things happening there. If they drop  Camelyn, they better at least hit the nail on the head at the Eye itself conveying when Rand's hair on his neck stands up, he backs away from the pool but doesn't really know why, and its a very subtly-handled moment on film I hope - I need to see Rand plastered up against that wall but not even realizing he did it, so Josha please sell this scene! (Four Kings alone doesn't convey this b/c we are not supposed to connect what happened there yet on its own).

And as to changing the Eye, Malkier, Tarwin's Gap, Green Man etc ... If they don't include Someshta then how would they have for example the utterly epic linkage much later in Forward and Back when we see how all this started in the AoL? A large part of the mystique and world-building of WoT is this linkage system he built up over the course of all these books: foreshadowing, back refs and so on. God don't lose that, Rafe.

Who said 4 Kings and Whitebridge have been dropped? Caemlyn almost certainly has, disappointing but i understand and agree with the reasons, Baerlyn probably has been but there is no certainty.

Side note....The wife and I started the new Robinson space series last night.  Somehow Judy turned out black.  Now if you want to cast a whole family of black Robinsons do that.  Cast one of the parents as black so it makes some sense.

Oh and we couldn't even finish the 1st episode after how watching it.  The planet they crashed on was cold, ice.  The water froze so fast that a person couldn't swim up to get out, froze in solid.  Not from top down.  Then they're still walking around with no head coverings.  Lame

Judy is adopted in the new show, so not the Biological Daughter of either of them. And Taylor Russell has a Black Father and White Mother so yes Judy could have been the Biological Daughter of Maureen.

It took me about 2 minutes of research on the net to get the above information. Maybe before attacking a casting some research might be in order.
Personally I don’t mind the new Lost in Space, loved the original as a kid but cringe when i think about it now.

I agree. Jordan was very specific about a lot of things but as for the TV adaptation...I would prioritize good acting, a well written story, non-cheesy CGI, stuff like that over - "looks just exactly as Jordan wrote it" - but within reason.

Rand's got to be a ginger that stands out. So so far, I'm completely pleased with the casting.

But I think S2 casting - I'm really curious about - because I think they'll be casting the Trakands, maybe Aviendha ... Lanfear, Berelain, Faile ... I want them to get quality actresses - and beauty! LoL

I see the chances of casting as.
    Younger Trakands 99%, Lanfear,Faile 80-90%, Be’lal*, Ishamael 70-80%, Aviendha, Rahvin* 20-30%, Morgase, Bryn, Barelain 5-10%

*One or the other but not both, either Be’lal will be killed as per the Books or it will be Rahvin ruling both Tear and Andor and defeated in Tear, retreats to Andor. I really like this Plotline, with Travelling a Forsaken could pull it off easily.

Aviendha has only a short Cameo in TDR and i think Barelain is only about a 70% chance of being in the series full stop

  4. 1/Mat : for all the grief he gives Nynaeve,Egwene and Elayne

2/Loail : probably the only truly universally loved character

3/Rand : for his overall story Arc

4/Nynaeve : best character development in WOT

    5/Aviendha : for being Aviendha

6/Siuan : will feed me to the Fish if i leave her off

7/Egwene : for the way she stood up to Elaida and her Cronies

    8/Birgitte : for being Birgitte

9/Padan Fain : easily the best written baddy

10/Cenn Biue : couldn’t stand the complaining if i left him off

    special mentions Bela, Verin, Lan....

and the other 2769 named characters

There is not a single character in WOT i dislike, it takes all sorts to create a story this big even the Trakands.

That's really exciting. Despite my cynicism I'm excited that it may bring an I flux of people back to the boards at the very least

I’ve only been here about a year but we have definitely seen an influx of new members and returnees but there have been a few turn up and attack the show especially the casting early on, I’m very confident about the show myself.

Haha! *Is Happily Snugglebitten* Ah yes it is good to be back! Yeah, I seen the new logo

was released yesterday but still no date on it. I'm thinking Fall of this year now.

There has been a rumour doing the rounds for November, starting to look pretty close to the mark

I'm interested to see where this is headed. Yesterday clearly marked the beginning of a new phase in marketing. That's the first truly official thing that we've seen that isn't meant only for fan service.

Keep an eye on "The Tomorrow War" tomorrow. (It stars Chris Pratt and is an action, sci fi movie.) Amazon is going to want WoT to appeal to the same people who watch that movie. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a slightly longer teaser attached.

Just watched Tomorrow War, yea its ok  3 1/2  out of 5 Fairly typical 21st Century Movie, FX brilliant, acting reasonable, writing standard fare for a modern movie.

it's just a logo. it doesn't mean anything, either way.

we already were pretty sure that it would air in 2021, but it's good to have confirmation.

Sorry but I disagree with it doesn’t mean anything, a Logo is a major part of the marketing for the Show. Non Fans are going to start seeing it and many will become intrigued and one big factor WOT has going for it is a quite unique name.
People are going to start asking what in blue blazes is a Wheel of Time? And will start searching.

You have to have priorities.  Amazon's is definitely not WoT.

That comment shows that you truly don’t understand what the WOT even means. As has been stated many times over the course of the Books, the Wheel has turned 1000s of times over 7 Ages, recurring again and again with no telling of an Age being exactly the same as the other tellings. If the TV Series tells it differently to the Books then it should be called a different turning of the Wheel.

But It is still the Wheel of Time.

  10. I think the problems some Fans are having is they think there are going to be major changes to the overarching story. I don’t necessarily agree, i think we are going to get the same story but just from different perspectives and told in a different way. ie: Winternight and some of Logains story. I think we will get Rand seeing Logain in the Cage and then see Logain notice something that makes him sit up and take notice, maybe the Halo he told about in a later book. The change could be that it occurs in a Village near Caemlyn instead of in the City.

  11. The 4th Episode is titled The Dragon Reborn and i think that is when we will at the very least suspect it is Rand if not outright confirmed. Far to many Fans know the truth for Rafe to be able to push it to far, it could easily turn into an ongoing joke as the worst kept secret in Wheel of Time.

  12. The thing about Logain is they don’t have to do much, to increase his presence compared to EOTW, the only time he appears is when Rand sees him in the distance in Caemlyn. All it might be in S1 for Logain is them showing his capture and him inside the Cage and his reaction to seeing a blazing light of in the distance that he later finds out is Rand.

Both scenes occur in EOTW but off page.

If nothing else, Sanderson confirms what they've been telling all the time: that the plot was significantly reworked.

And we all knew it was inevitable: different mediums require different adaptation, even before we take into account WoT's sheer size.

The only question has ever been, are those changes good? are they functional to the adaptation while preserving the core of the story? And sanderson gave his blessing here.

personally, my target here is the witcher. That one was a good adaptation; they changed storylines, addeded stuff, cut stuff, moved stuff around. They made tissaia much harsher than she was, while making jennefer more symphatetic. and her whole backstory was expanded from what, in the books, amount to a few lines.

but all of that worked, the characters were true to their core, and the show was enjoyable.

If we get that, I'll be happy.

Hope we get more consistent directing then Witcher though, thought there was a huge difference in quality between episodes.

You should give it another shot. Vikings was good, but TLK grows better and better as it goes.

Definitely and why give up on one show because the other is better? I do prefer Vikings but am still a big fan of TLK. While I’m really looking forward to the WOT Series, the LOTR Series is only a close step behind for me and House of the Dragon not far behind that.

  15. In my experience it is only about 10-15% of fans writing the show off at this stage and i always expected that. Doesn’t matter what they do you will get at least 15% of fans will hate it for any one of a thousand reasons.

I may end up in the percentage of fans who hate it but at least i will watch at least 2 episodes first then form my own opinion. I am not going to hate a show I haven’t seen, based on rumours, innuendo, or the opinion of someone who hasn’t even seen the show.
I’m also enough of an adult to know that WOT as written will not work on screen and the loss of 15% of book fans will not impact whether the show is a success or not.
