I'm a huge fan of the Aiel and am looking forward to what they show regarding Aiel culture.
Rafe's words about it in the video are heartening.
I hope they do have Gaul in the show, he's a huge part of Perrin's story. I'm not wedded to the whole Gaul/Bain/Chiad love triangle but I hope they don't give all of Gaul's plot points to Aviendha.
They probably will cut the number of aiel clans/chiefs down some, and I certainly won't cry a tear if the Shaido plot line is reduced substantially as well.
What does everyone else think ?

Why not ask Glenn Cook?
Then go ahead and query the Malazon?

Hey Don't bash David Eddings. I have great fondness for his Belgariad series. Wonderful memories.

Yes. There were equal discussions over the Brandon books vs the Robert books.
A number of readers disliked Brandon's writing in equal measure to what the show did.
Robert Jordan had the clear ability to place you in the moments of the story, which is why the descriptive writing was seen as either a really good thing, or an off putting one depending on whom you ask.
Brandon Sanderson, by comparison, showed a vast difference in writing. This meant that many situations, and characters were off when reading straight from a Robert Jordan book, and the most important comparison, is reading Knife Of Dreams, back to back with The Gathering Storm. Those two books shows a vast difference in how the story is told.
What the show is doing is off putting to many, because the mediums are different. It is still telling the story, just using characters in different events to build what is happening, and building what is to come. Kerene and Stepin interacting with Logain is a direct case to this difference even being needed. You can even include Owain in this as well. Thom's nephew.
They were all chosen and revealed for a specific purpose, and it is because their fates would affect key characters at very important and vital moments in the story they are telling, and also world building in showing the cost of becoming an Aes Sedai, or a male channeller even using their abilities.
The stakes are high in the story, and they are only going to get higher as each season is done, and more dangers are revealed.
Is there a discussion somewhere of the differences or similarities between Knife of Dreams & The Gathering Storm vis a vie the writing ?

A very subjective question to answer but I really wanted to know if this has ever been a topic here on DM before ?
The motivator for me was re-reading "Towers of Midnight". I was particularly struck by chapter 30 called "Men Dream Here".
It affects me so much each time i read it and I wondered if others have similar chapters that gave them that feeling.
Anyone have similar book chapters ?

I mean that doesn’t inspire confidence. D&D have admitted their first effort at the pilot was a disaster and they got lucky with it turning into something so good. I think it’s why they stopped at season 4 ;).
Which is why the latter seasons weren't as on par as theirs. Sad really.

I wonder over the centuries how many Two Rivers girls died jumping off that damn cliff.
In the real world, just one death would be sufficient to reconsider that particular silliness.

I don't know if this question has been asked before so if it has, please give me a link to the discussion.
But if not. what are some character meetings you wish had been able to occur?

What did the last page have to do with Rafe's answers to the #rewotch questions?
Nothing. So let's get back in topic and take the show hating else where.
Hey SD,
Has Rafe answered additional questions beyond the four mentioned on page 1 because I can't find anymore of his answers. Thanks for your help clarifying this for me.

Anyone heard any rumors etc about a Season Two release date?

While we're on the topic of storylines that could be cut from the show, I'd add the Atha'an Miere as has been kinda suggested in this thread to be left out of the show but also The Kin as well.
Also, reducing the amount of time covering plots such as Elayne's throne struggle and Faile's capture.

One thing that I want to know is how much of Thom are we going to get in season two.
None of the preview clips have shown a hint of him. I hope this doesn't mean he's not going to have a big role in season two, that would be a shame imo.

Exactly this, I suspect it will have to do with her block and her frustrations about it. Then we will get a scene similar to the Amrylins lesson from the boat ride.
I think this is the exact reason for it. Especially if they are going to have them on horses at all.
What exactly is her block anyway. In the tv show it seems like she has to be afraid/enraged either for herself or others. Others thoughts..

Only the grey elves (Sindar) were depicted as uniformly blonde. The Noldor were depicted as largely dark haired expect certain specific individuals (which is in line with the books) and the wood elves (Avar) are also depicted as dark / reddish haired.
That makes me an Avar Elf 😄

I suppose if every race in Middle Earth sounded like Americans, ppl would complain that the show isn't being diverse enough lol. We humans love to gripe.
I saw a YouTube video which pointed out that Tolkien didn't expressly give Elves pointed ears or make them all blondes, it's the movie/show producers that have made that "canon".
That's why books are so good. We can make the characters sound and identify however makes the reader most comfortable. No outside force can stir that vision. In fact, each new iteration enriches the story. Plenty of good books that have never been made into movie, or tv show, so we should be grateful.

The ROP is an odd mix. Amazing visuals but bad writing ..sounds familar huh lol

LTT blew it when sealing the DO. So how does Rand having LTT's memories help him?
We're back to a world that is a shadow of its former self where much (most?) previous knowledge has been lost. But a few young adults that studied real hard manage to accomplish what the towering intellects of the previous ages could not.
Superior intellect isn't enough. Lanfear is a prime example of this. The weaknesses of humanity are still present, no matter how smart you are. In fact, I'd say that seeing yourself as superior in knowledge and thus having a right to do as you please is always present in us.

It seems that because of the whole Mat issue at the end of the last season, they'll have to have at least one episode with Mat as the focus with some other characters having just small moments.
Perrin needs major plotlines and development as well because he was short changed in season one.
I expect Rand may be more scarce than some of us would like but to get Mat and Perrin moving, I'm willing to accept it.
It will be like those books where a character is missing but instead of an entire season, it may be just portions of episodes.

Linked to this is the lack of dreams. I was like a broken record on here when the show aired. If they had given us more dreams it would have built the danger from the Dark One as well as the mystery, because Ba'alzamon didn't know who the Dragon was either.
I was going to make a post about the lack of dream sequences in season 1. If I recall there were only 3? and one for each of the boys. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this one. Don't recall one for either of the women which considering the whole "Who is the Dragon?" mystery was odd to me.
Is there a fuller discussion of the lack of dreaming in the show ? Thanks.

As in most of life it's a matter of perspective.
Had Bran yelled at Egwene to ignore the old hag and put beers in empty hands, squash what you perceived as Bran's whininess?
WOW.! SinisterDeath, Are you okay ? Seems to me your over-reacting and you should ask yourself why your so invested in attacking my view. This is my final reply to my original post. I've moved on and so should you.

Chances are men don't know it involves jumping off of a cliff.
Either way, I still fail to see how the few lines he got was "whining".As in most of life it's a matter of perspective.

How was he in any way a whiner?
Egwene enters the Inn to Applause.
She hugs her dad, he said "My girl, I was worried that..." and they hug. He then says "Come on then, we're losing a coin for every empty hand here."
Then another lady comes up and says "No, you drink with us tonight." and he has a look of half laughter and half confusion on his face.
That's it. No whining. Just a father who still sees his daughter as a girl that does what daddy says, even though she is literally a woman that night.
Yes but no one else seemed worried by Egwene's survival (or potential demise) of her rite of passage. His reaction to her return struck me as odd. Marin wasn't certrainly wasn't concerned
I assume all girls joining the Women's Circle have to jump off that cliff, so why was Bran worried ? I mean if girls had died jumping off, wouldn't you think they'd find safer way to initiate ?
Do the "Villains" need to be presented better in the TV show? Or can Mazrim Tain and other characters be used to make them sympathetic?
