yes, but it wouldn't kill to ask for both.

I have come to realise, that getting both brilliant characters and terrific worldbuilding is close to rare for films.

For t.v, it is even rarer, especially in this genre.

For what I have seen of this, I am really happy, want more, and am enjoying the journey. I know there is far more to see and explore that this show will do. I am also excited to see what the other Forsaken are going to do. To see Lanfear afraid at the end is pretty much on point when it comes to the Forsaken. The heroes were amazing, and done respectfully; they all felt like from our world, which was awesome to see.

  2. I do not think the Oath Rod would help with the madness and channeling.

The key reason, is it corrupts the mind into thinking things are there when they are not.  Androl's shadows, and Naeff's Myrdraal are examples of that.

Eventually, I think that had Nynaeve had not Healed Naeff, he would have started channeling to kill those Mydraal, and then his madness would have made anyone he looked at look like one, and so channel to kill it. I doubt the Oath Rod would have stopped him.

  3. In many ways, RJ not doing more clever uses of the one power, was because he had Star Wars doing other things on one side, and Harry Potter doing the parallels on the other.

What he focused on, however, was how much a channelers strength fed into the maximum range of their weaving, as much as how a really skilled channeler meant faster weaving.

The best examples of this, is both Graendal and Demandred at the last battle, and their fighting, particularly Graendal vs Cadsuane, Alivia, Amys, and Avendha, compared to M'Hael vs Egwene, though I loved that fight for other reasons.

I found Aviendha's fight more enjoyable, because it was intense and impactful, because it showed how all the channelers strengths and skills played out in that fight with female channeling, and it came down to share dumb luck Graendal lost.

I loved Demandred for how his vast range meant a tough battle, unless he was focused on something else, because his duels were because he was dominating that battle, and it took a duel to defeat him.

For me, the Logain duel with Demandred was a really great showing what I mean by both strength and skill playing out in a male channeling fight, and shows that only Rand could have beaten him.

This asks a difficult question, are children in WOT soulless until they are born? Does this mean that "life" does not begin until birth in WOT? As I type this maybe a bit heavy to get into here.

Yes, they do not get souls until they are born. It must be because of the dangers of the Dark One possibly taking the soul before birth, the Creator could have locked him from possibly interfering with rebirth, when he can clearly keep the soul after death, even if he is touching the world.

There exist some cultures that say the soul inhabits before birth, and to go with that, they have either godly or demonic enemies in their myths that can take a soul before birth.

If the Dark One could do what is described here, then he could conceivably stop any births while touching the world.

  5. I think that Seanchan was the loss if Rand got the Sharans. Because of his heritage, the Aiel would stay regardless. They also had the most contact with Shara, far more than Cairhein, so more knowledge could be gained before approaching them.

In fact, I have a feeling the future of the world would be totally different if Shara was under Rand's control instead, especially with the Innacal custom. It is almost like the gai shain custom, only permanent, and is regardless of channelling, which is a fascinating part of it, compared with damane and dacovale, and how they react when freed.

At the end of the day, the Sharans were away to explain all the ripples that were occurring between Lord Of Chaos, and A Memory Of Light. Those ripples were Demandred balefiring entire cities in Shara, since they are direct match to Moraine's knowledge of the effect during the War Of Power, through documents the White Tower library possesses.

She's not though?  I feel like they've made this obvious to anyone familiar with the books.

Yes. They even used Liandrin shielding Nyneave using the exact same line Ishy used with Moiraine. Meaning three things.

First, they replaced Siuan's book lesson with Liandrin, and two, they reinforced the shield, and three they foreshadowed Liandrin's arc all at once. Excellent use of a moment between two characters, and is how you should adapt a story from another medium.

Just by giving a specific character a specific interaction that belongs to another character in the books.

But, the best thing for me, is seeing what Rand is doing in Cairhein. In spite of his true motives for being there, namely Logain clearly is, that was something I did not expect to see, and I totally love it. I also love the madness, and how his one is manifesting.

It totally feels like something book Rand would do in the early books and the latest ones, if he had the chance to do it.

  7. Yes. There has always for me been a strong impression that the taint on Saidin was more than just madness. To me, Ishy always screamed a wraith, or a ghost in the first three books.

Agreed on Aginor and Balthamel basically being corpses at two different stages of decomposition.

As for the taint being more, we saw from Nynaeve looking at Rand's mind that it had dark webs identical to the compulsion she saw on that poor kid's mind in The Gathering Storm.

Then there is the really long winter in The Eye Of The World to take into account, which a weakening and later broken seal does not account for. The Dark One had to be touching the world for a longer period. We also see large cables coming off a number of Forsaken.

That always lead me to believe that the Dark One could bypass the seals and touch the world stronger when Ishy was out during the Trolloc Wars and The War Of The Hundred Years.

  8. He was only partially imprisoned, possibly due to facing Lews Therin directly. The seals spun him out, and pulled him back in on a long cycle between each release.

He was behind the Trolloc Wars, and the founding of the Black Ajah, and both the fleets sent to Seanchan and Shara, along with the siege of Tar Valon by Hawkwing. He also was the one that through all of these, was the cause of the War Of The Hundred Years. Both of those events are a thousand years apart.

His next spinning out was the Aiel War, where he learned the Dragon, his enemy was possibly reborn through his Black Ajah.

  9. It could be Moghedien he was talking about. She was in Ebou Dar, and was doing the same thing.

It is possible that the Seeker may have thought she was connected to Elyane and Nyneave, whom he saw around the city, and was in direct earshot of at least once without getting spotted.

Without even going into whether it's a good change or not, it was executed laughably poorly. They were openly weeping in full sight of the Hall while Moiraine was given a "punishment" that allowed her to continue doing her stuff outside of the Tower, which was what Liandrin used to get her into trouble in the first place. Anyone with half a brain would have immediately called out on it, especially given the Aes Sedai's propensity to bicker.

There were also so many easy ways to get out of the "pressure" put up by Liandrin. It was framed as though there was some political masterclass going on there with the characters, but it was in fact written more like an episode of Mean Girls than anything else.

Liandrin: Her purpose - the purpose of all Blues, is to gather secrets and discover danger before it strikes at the heart of us, before it strikes at you, Mother. But Trollocs invaded from the west, and Logain's army swelled from the south without even a warning from Moiraine. Why?

Moiraine: Yo. I was following rumours of ta'veren (may as well make that one-liner relevant again) and brought back the most powerful channeller in a thousand years, without whom all of us, you included, would have been dead. I suspected that she might have potential but she had no training and could not channel as far as I knew then. She would be a great asset under the Tower, instead of a dangerous wilder. In the two years since I left, I travelled from Tear to the Two Rivers and many towns in between. Neither of which are in the same general direction as Ghaeldan or "the west". Also, Logain and his army sounds like Red Ajah business, where were the warnings from you lot?

    FIN

That is the dumbest thing Moiraine could have said.

Any mention of Taveren in her group would lead to the Dragon in that conversation.

Any mention of the Dragon, and Moiraine in the same sentence would see her stilled and executed within hours of that meeting with the Hall. They all know the Prophecies. A whiff of Taveren, instant connection.

Particularly if the Aes Sedai started thinking Nyneave was the Dragon Reborn on the month trip back to Tar Valon.  She would have suffered the same fate.

What we saw was the opening moves of the Game Of Houses in one location, and how it will affect the main story and that world power.

Oh wow, what a still!  She absolutely looks the part.

I know!! I saw it and loved her look from the very beginning.

She is a really great actress to.

I have loved her in every role I have seen, and she has been in tons of projects. She is right up there with Pike for her ability, and right up there for Siuan's actress, whom I have forgotten.

I soo want those three in the same room with their characters now.

The re-direct could have been a rare weave that Lews Therin developed and that Rand used instinctively - later Asmodean explicitly states there are some weaves that only a few could master (he is referring to Rand blocking a gateway from closing, which Asmodean thought only Demandred had achieved).

The reason Lews Therin and Demandred can do that, is a talent for manipulating gateways. We learn that from another Forsaken's POV.

It is only found in one other character, and that is Androl. The difference between these three is that one is far weaker than the others, so he has learned to develop his talent to the greatest extent. Being far more powerful, the other two never developed it, because they had other options to achieve results.

@wotfan4472 I like the way you think!

Theory: Nakomi is Nienna walking the world and trying to help the Humankind as much as she can. She was said to be the Vala of pity and compassion after all. Maybe she has decided to walk the world in human form and be with them at least by presence.

You could say the Sea Folk revere Ulmo and the Ogier might be worshipping Yavanna, Oromë or Vána as their gods.

Yes, Nienna would so work in that position, and feels like an extension of what she did before. Almost as if Gandalf encouraged her to do so when he returned.

  14. I myself love this theory!!

The only issue, is that Tolkein swung between Ungoliant eating herself to death, or Earendel killed her while he was sailing on Vingilot before the Third Kinslaying happened.

I would think of replacing Ungoliant with Shelob, for Mashadar and even Sauron himself for Saruman, and Machin Shin would work.

Everything else fits really well. Even Eru works in this. There need a few additions to expand the theory further.

Having some of the Valar inside the Wheel and reinforcing the Pattern, which both Aule and Varda would do with the Dwarves for the Wheel, while Mandos runs the Pattern, then other Vala like Manwe, Ulmo, Yavanna, Lorien, and Melian working with the Eldar in creating each of the five energies that make up the One Power makes total sense.

As for Manwe, he is leader in all projects, but especially in making the One Power, since he is in charge of Air in all its aspects.

It is even cooler if the Dark One is a totally different entity altogether.

With this theory, all of them, and include all three kindreds, would lock away the Dark One the first time, then send one of the commanding Edain as a soul into the Wheel to fight him, while all the Edain are reborn in bodies, and are in Valinor when dead.

I didn't think this was a black ajah oath but rather Verin's individual oath.  She created the loophole herself.

Verin herself did not create the loophole. The Oaths are specific, just as the original Three Oaths were.

She just became the first official Black Ajah member in 2000 years to exploit it, because she was the only member in that time not to be faithful to her Oaths when it became clear that her position was untenable.

There were at two Black Ajah POV's in the books that were intending to kill Verin the next time they saw her. Fortunately for the world, neither one of them were in the Tower at any point Egwene began her siege, or with the Salidar Aes Sedai at any moment.

  16. Mat actually told Rand when he saw him in Tear. He just did not know which Forsaken it was, only that one was there, and called himself Gaebril.

Lanfear told him, and Rand did nothing, because he suspected that it was a trap.

Moiraine also told Rand of Sammael being in Illian, and he himself knew he could not deal with Sammael, until he had a more trusted force behind him.

That meant getting the Aiel behind Rand. You notice that the Forsaken all did everything they could to avoid a full engagement with Rand once the Aiel recognized him.
