You wouldn't be the only person on the roster unfamiliar with the game, but it probably helps pre-rand in trying to nab a preferred role.

Not really. The only thing you're missing out on is pre knowledge of which characters do what in order to speculate on what powers they might have.

For example Mercy is a healer so she might have some kind of doctor or other protection powers but you wouldn't necessarily know that because you don't know Mercy is a healer.

 

I am sure someone can give you a quick run down if you think you need it otherwise just pick whoever seems cool.

It's role madness so you're guaranteed to have some kind of power regardless.
