The Illuminators are an organization at Dragonmount that focuses on the creative energies of the members as a whole. We do not have any one specific purpose except creativity. We have the ability to grow into whatever creative minds can come up with. The Illuminators currently have five chapter houses. Each house focuses on something general, but these are not the limits of the Illuminators. The Scribe's Chapter house focuses on our writers, editors and publishers. The Artist Chapter house focuses on the classical arts, sketching, painting, sculpting, digital illustration and rendering, etc. The Crafter's chapter house focuses on the trade skills, sewing, jewelers, blacksmithing and the mundane objects as art forms. The Smith's Chapter house focuses on digital manipulation from signatures and avatars to web design. The Gleeman's Chapter house focuses on the arts, musical theory, acting and dancing are a few examples. Each Chapter House is run by a Chapter House master. They are currently: Scribe’s Chapter Master - U4ea (Lor), Smith's Chapter Master - Ata, Crafter's Chapter Master - Tessa Sedai, Artist Chapter Master - Cleopatra, and the Gleeman's Chapter Master - Odette(?).

Each Chapter Master would like to tell you more about what they will be doing.

From Ata our Smith's Chapter House Master:

The Smiths CH is a place to focus on those who make sigs and websites, (or want to learn making them). A place they can share resources and ideas, and a place they can get help and learn.

We are an artistic part of this community. We have ideas, and we like to make something out of them, something you can look at and feel and do all sorts of funny business to. We're here to give you what you want, and occasionally some more.

Our activities include but are not limited to

- continuous offer of help at any time with problems stumbled upon in sig or website making

- classes in how to make sigs and build websites

- representation of work and feedback

- help people who have a wish to get a sig but don’t know how to make one, a.k.a. take sig requests

- sig auctions on a monthly base

From Tessa Sedai our Crafter's Chapter House Master:

We in the Crafters Chapter House would like to welcome anyone interested in the crafting of everyday items, be it in paper, wood, material, beads, metal, threads or food. Whether it is your occupation, a hobby or even something you would be interested in learning about, then please come and join us.

We are planning on having some master classes, hints and tips, in fact come and vote for the master class you would like to have first. We have a gallery where you can show off all your wonderful handiwork to the rest of the crowd. We will be having a project for each month and a longer-term project to get your teeth into and you can choose whether you wish to join in. Or maybe you would just like to come and chat with like-minded people.

We will feature any crafts that you as the member wish to bring to this House. Whether it’s from Woodturning to Jewelry making, from Costume making to Card making, from Needlework to Baking we’d like to hear from you. If you’re not sure whether your craft will fit here come along and gives us a try we are always looking for new ideas and crafts.

From U4ea our Scribe's Chapter House Master:

The Scribes' Chapter House is all about ideas. The idea is the birth of everything and, here at the Scribes' Chapter, we believe in nurturing those ideas until they become something greater. We embrace the talent found in the minds of our members and visitors; a talent for creativity and the spark of an idea that can breed a flame that screams to be free of its owner’s mind. Whether it’s writing or reading, planning or letting the idea flow, we believe in the significance of any idea and want to help you fan the flame to its full brilliance.

Our mission at the Scribes' Chapter House is to help each other develop the talent, the creativity and the ideas found in our members and visitors. We’re the writers, the readers and the idea makers of the Illuminator’s Guild.

From contests that challenge you to produce your best poetry and prose, to editing services, to projects of greater scope: the creation of worlds for your characters to tumble through, anthologies to publish your work, team-ups with other Chapter Houses for graphical or musical creations, we strive to make ourselves better; as writers, as readers and as idea makers.

From Cleopatra our Artist's Chapter House Master:

The Artist Chapter House welcomes all artists whose focus includes traditional art (i.e. painting, drawing, illustration, sculpting, and photography) or digital art (i.e. digital painting and airbrushing, 3D rendering, and other computer-related media). All media are accepted. This also includes Graphic Artists, as it is a big part of our Chapter House.

We welcome all subject matter, not only Wheel of Time art. We have animal art, portraits, fantasy, sci-fi, Anime, Manga art, realism, abstract, or any other style of art.

Our purpose is to help inspire, motivate and to learn new art techniques including but not limited to graphics programs. We are still growing and in the future may host your favorite style, or form of art! Check with us often! Make your suggestions to the Illuminators Org.

From Odette our Gleeman's Chapter House Master:

Ladies and Gentlemen! Welcome one and all, young and old and all in between! We are the Gleeman’s Chapter House. We are players, performers, entertainers and we want you to add to our flourish and fanfare. Whether they be dance, music, choreography, comedy, acting, or pantomime your performance arts talents will be welcomed here.

Not only will we attempt to showcase our gifts via video and or audio galleries but we will be fostering a community of support and encouragement for all people involved in any form of performance art. Behind the doors of the Gleeman’s Chapter House you can expect to see: technical tutorials on software programs such has Sibelius and Finale, classes, seminars and guides about techniques and tips we use in our fields, a calendar of events and performances of our members, and a place to showcase a performance or composition of yours.

Dragonmount Poetry Anthology

We as the Illuminators Guild would like to open up submissions for our bi-annual Dragonmount Anthology. This anthology will focus on Poetry. Multiple submissions are welcome. All works must be original pieces, they may be odes to your favorite author but please do not write with in their worlds, about them yes, in them no. For example you can write a poem about how the Wheel of Time books make you feel, but you cannot write a poem depicting Rand's escape from the box at Dumai’s Wells. You will have until March 5th to send in your submissions. Please send them to dm.anthology@gmail.com with the subject 2007 Poetry Submission.

Hello... have you visited the Illuminators yet?

In case you haven't and are wondering what's going on... let me tell you about just some of the projects and threads that you will find there.

On the main Illuminators board:

- the world building project, were we are creating a new fantasy world. Once we have a good basic design, anyone interested in writing is invited to write a story set in that world. The initial creation project will probably carry on and go into more detail.

- the web design contest that Ali mentioned above

- how to make a sig in word

- and for all those mum's to be and their friends... the crafter's Baby challenge.

In the Artist's Chapter House:

- their depict WoT project. Whether your medium is paint or the camera. The object is to depict things/people/vistas from real life that remind you of the WoT. Why not take your camera out this weekend and get snapping?

In the Smith's Chapter House:

- the GIMP beginners class

In the Crafter's Chapter House:

- the cookbook sign-up thread where we are looking for people to suggest recipes, volunteers for testing and help us put it all together in a cookbook.

In the Gleeman's Chapter House:

- one of several musical showcases

In the Scribe's Chapter House:

- a writing exercise, Suspense versus Suprise... which has already produced some great stories.

Those are just some examples... sign up for the Illuminators today and see just how much there is to be discovered. It is all about being creative...

And don't forget the fabulous Sig request board is part of the Illuminators, too.

Best Signature on DM Contest

The Illuminators are proud to host their first Signature Contest. The rules are as follows.

- Sigs can be nominated by any person. To find the link for the Sig you wish to nominate, you right click the sig in question and go to properties. Copy and paste the Location link into your nomination post.

- Entries per Sig maker are limited. A Sig maker may only have 5 separate Signatures in the contest. If more than 5 Signatures are nominated then the Sig maker gets to choose which 5 they wish to enter. The limit is set to maintain an even set of entries, so no one creator is flooding the contest.

- In a rotating Signature, each individual one will count as one entry. So you need to specify which one you are nominating.

- To nominate a Signature please post the following information HERE

1. Who the Sig is by

2. A link to the Sig

3. Why are you nominating it

- All entries require to be nominated once only. Multiple nominations will have no impact on the outcome of the contest. Sig makers will be notified if there are 5 or more of their signatures and they need to choose.

- There will be several categories of judging including the following:

Best Over All Signature

Funniest Signature

Most Creative Use of Space

Peoples Choice

More Categories may come about as the Illuminator Staff begins judging.

Tell your friends about this, so they don't miss out 8)

Soon to be published author Pat Rothfuss (you can find a review of his brilliant debut novel here: The Name of the Wind ) has generously agreed to spend some time with us discussing the craft and business of writing starting (tentatively) this Friday the 24th.

Aside from writing one of the best books I've read in a while, Pat is an associate professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, writes a satire column for the university's newspaper called Your College Survival Guide (which he began while he was a student and published in book form as Your Annotated Illustrated College Survival Guide) and is one hairy dude (click the link to the thread below, you'll see what I mean).

Pat's tentatively scheduled to show up starting this Friday, so keep an eye on this thread:
