In. Is it important to have knowledge about the theme?

Welcome to DM, Cory and SP.

Ummm it might be?

Here's basically all you need to know.

The Death Star was blown up a couple years ago and Luke has been running around doing a lot of nothing.

Leia is pregnant with twins and has been trying to organize the New Republic out of a Rebel Alliance.

Lando is now working on some sort of mining operation IIRC?

Han & Chewie have been recruiting smugglers to work for the New Republic instead of the remnants of the Empire.

They get caught up with a smuggler known as Talon Karrde who's right hand force sensitive woman Mara Jade is secretly a former agent of the Emperor who was supposed to kill Luke during the original films but failed to do so.

Meanwhile Thrawn, the last Grand Admiral of the Empire has taken control of what's left of the Empire and is preparing for war.

He has located a secret facility filled with lots of technological goodies left behind by the Emperor including some cloaking devices for ships and cloning capabilities leftover from the Clone Wars. He gets himself entangled with the insane clone of a former Jedi named Jorrus C'boath who mistakenly thinks he runs the show and is going to be the new Emperor. Thrawn has promised him Luke Skywalker, his sister Leia, and her unborn twins as apprentices for him to start a new Jedi Order. While he wants to turn and train Luke and Leia he is particularly interested in the unborn twins as they will be impressionable. Thrawn has sent out assassin/kidnappers of a race that was enslaved originally by Darth Vader which Thrawn now uses for body guards and special ops missions to take Leia.

Also, within the New Republic there is some...contention.

One of the top leaders, Fey'lya has taken a bribe to frame Admiral Ackbar as a traitor and he spends the majority of the story in prison IIRC.

I...think that is all the most important info you may need to know.

Not so much. I don't like having my setups be so tied into the theme that players who don't know it get hopelessly confused. But I can't account for how much player discussion will revolve around the theme so I will link the most widely used Star Wars wiki:

But yeah, this is an INVASION. Sort of. SickPuppets and Monk are from my forum.

They're a little new-er, but they plenty of games under their belt; I've been Mafing for about 4 years now - so I almost have some idea what I'm doing at this point.

I've played with Des a few times and Tom is like my Mafia soulmate.

Thanks for da welcomes.

Reminds me of the Invasion storyline the WWE had going for awhile.

^ what cindy said - every forum has those issues...people wander away, but they always come back to their "home" forum eventually

God the OP of that thread is depressing.

Are these new guys like refugees from a fallen empire?

lol we have the same threads here.

it will be fine, don't worry.

The fact that we have the same threads is what worries me.

To continue the analogy of refugees, that could either be good or bad I think in that one way or another it will shake up the userbase here.

Question:

Is the game thread open at night?

Mods very rarely forbid night talk. The standard here is everyone alive can post in thread at any time unless specifically told otherwise.

I have had 3 "home forums" in my "internet life".

They don't always come home.

Mostly they do.  We've had "mafia is hurting" threads for years.  Take a look - mafia isn't hurting.  It is just the cycle of things.
