Congratulations to BG for winning Ultimate Victory.  Also congratulations to Pralaya for a heroic mafia debut as a Bus Driver.  Congratulations to Tina for some very good scum play.  If night actions had worked out differently, you very well may have won T3.  Finally, congratulations to Serra for excellent play of the Outsider role.  You didn't get any points, but you almost secured 3 for everyone in your team.


 


 


As you can see, each thread had 3 full mafia, 3 Outsiders, 1 Traitor, and 16 town.  The town roles for each thread always included Vig, Bus Driver, and Jailkeeper.  Threads 1 and 3 had a Cop.  Threads 1 and 2 had a Doc.  Thread 2 had a BPV, and Thread 3 had a Bomb.  The mafia roles were also slightly different between threads.  The Vengeful Mafia was replaced with a Mafia BPV in T3 and there was no Mafia Roleblocker in T2.


 


 


We decided on role combinations that would make the setup difficult to break but would also give everyone a non-VT role.  After that, slots were randomized.


 


 


Finally, the Outsider role:


 


The Outsiders were an inter-thread scum faction that could only win if no one else got 3 points.  As you may have noticed, no one was mafia in all 3 threads.  So the easiest way for the Outsiders to win would have been to help the mafia win in all 3 threads (Although they could technically still win by being the last faction standing in one thread).  For this reason, and in order to keep them undercover if they got lynched or killed, the Outsiders flipped as Mafia Traitors with slight flavor hints.


 


The Outsiders had some unique abilities to help them towards this end.  First of all, the Outsiders had one kill each night between all three threads.  This kill could not be used on the same thread or the same player on consecutive nights.  That's where the "extra" kills came from.  Also, each night in each thread, the Outsiders could capture actions targeting one player.  These actions would go into a pool the Outsiders kept (maximum stoarage of 3) and could be released again at any time in any thread as long as they were used on the same player.  In this way, the Outsiders could have re-directed kills, heals, cop viewings, roleblocks, and jailings to cause a right nuisance.


 


The only things they could not capture  were the Bus Drivers' actions.  This was for practical and balance concerns.  We wanted to town to have a counter to the Outsiders' capture and it also would have been extremely hard to figure out how to deal with a Bus Drive that had one end of it scooped up by the Outsiders.  They also were not allowed to use their action to capture their own kill in order to avoid their restrictions or to capture actions that could have prevented their kill.


 


I actually expected more chaos to be caused by the Outsiders' abilities, but they got a bit unlucky.  Also, the mass power role deaths in T2 played a part in that (not that town power role deaths didn't already benefit the Outsiders).

Ooh, in case anyone is wondering why the outsiders could only win by helping mafia in each thread:

 

Nobody was mafia in all three threads

Three were mafia in two of the three threads thus if 2 mafia wins+1 town win in any game that person got 3 points and Outsiders fail their win condition (BG in this instance).

If someone was mafia in one thread and town in two (6 people) then a town win in any two and mafia win in their thread of those would gain two people three points.

13 of you were town in all three.  Town wins across the board = terrible terrible shame for the Outsiders =p

Some specific instances, role mishaps (my fault), specific design choices of note, and other:

 

Bus Drivers in this setup (which used NAR) wen't before RB's etc and we allowed the bus drivers to self target.. essentially making them gods.  Put simply.. the town needed the opportunity for someone to be awesome and run the show if mafia afforded them the chance because otherwise mafia could win in three days.  

 

Bombs only killed upon NK.

 

Vengeful killers always got a kill at twilight.

 

Cops did not view traitors as anti-town, but they did see outsiders as anti-town.  

 

I still have some troubles with the complications of this setup =p It was SO DIFFICULT.

 

 

 

One night... Thread 2 mafia submitted a kill on Crush and thread three killed Ishy..

 

I accidentally killed Crush in both.  Sorry dude!  You were each VT's and I felt terrible about it but nothing was to be done except carry on and let the mafia know of my error.   I still feel bad about this, easily my worst modding mistake ever.

 

Wombat and I made efforts to check actions with one another before going ahead with them, but I still dread posting actions and one of you saying "OMG THIS DIDN"T HAPPEN" and finding out it screwed up the game.  I am pretty convinced that spreadsheets are the way to go from now on.

 

This has been the most fun to design, the funniest to watch people freak out over, and the coolest mafia idea that I have ever had.  Sharing it with Wombat and you all has been an absolute pleasure and while I do not think we had the balance down perfectly, I do believe that with a bit of tweaking this concept could be rerun.  

 

That said, I won't be the one doing it (unless someone else invites me to co-mod their setup).  Holy hell it was a lot of work.  Seriously freaking insane.  I still need to update the Info Thread!

 

You guys have been hilarious through this thing and made it a true joy to watch.

I know this is a biased opinion. But, I am fine with bus drivers targeting themselves. It brings that unpredictability in the game and makes it that much more exciting.

 

Of course, it still depends on the scenario and circumstances. But the whole, "whether he would target me", "will he drive me" kind of thing makes it exciting.

So what could we capture and what couldn't we capture? And was our capture redirected by the busdriver?

 

Driving beating both an RB and our capture is alright, I suppose, but then letting that bus driver self-target and be infini-shot makes for a pretty sick PR. Could scum self-target their kill?

 

The reason you don't let bus drivers self-target in a setup like this is the sort of paradox loop it creates:

 

say an RB blocks the same target as the bus driver is switching himself with. The RB would be redirected to the busdriver, who would have to be roleblocked, but if he's roleblocked the bus-drive didn't happen to begin with. There's no correct resolution.

 

All in all, I had good fun with the setup and you guys. I felt a bit bad for dropping back into obscurity after complaining about lurkers, but as long as town are doing it, scum have every reason to hide in the shadows. You should really just instate a bit of lynching lurkers days 1-3!

In that case, I'd just have the actions annihilate each other. I don't like to use Bus Drivers if I can avoid it anyways. Too much chance for mod error. They made sense for this setup though.

Lol serra we pretty much made bus drivers conf. townies here.  To answer your questions, you guys couldn't capture RB's or Bus Drives and mafia could self target.

Any siggy makers out there who can commemorate this game?

 

I will probably do one next week and post it here but it would be wonderful if Mish herself would grace us with one  :wub:
