For me, it's mostly the lack of information on Bombadil's background that makes him so intriguing.  We never really know what he is, what he does, or what he's capable of (at least that I've found - maybe it's written somewhere and I haven't found it).  He's always been pretty fascinating in my opinion.

 

Don't get me wrong, Tolkien's universe is filled to the brim with fascinating and sweet characters, but idk if I've ever been as fascinated by any as by Bombadil.

Tom fol-de-rol is not even in my top 40 Tolkien characters. Maybe not even excluding those in Silmarillion.

I really don't like Tom Bombadil. One of the best things Peter Jackson ever did was CUT HIM OUT. Saved me having to fastforward like I did on rereads of the books.
