Let's see, more Jih'Toh bullhickey. Is there a guide to it somewhere? I WANT to like the Aiel, but whenever they bring up that flaming honour system, I end up hating them all over again. Especially the condescending way in which they refuse to tell people what they're doing wrong yet expect them to follow it perfectly anyway.

I know that the Shaido were forcefully taking wetlanders as Gai'Shan, and that that was against the rules. But I thought it was only the "forcing" part that was wrong, not the taking of Gai'Shan themselves

well as i understand it, you cant take someone as Gai'Shan unless they follow Ji'e'thoh(or whatever its called) and since wetlanders have no honor so they cant be taken

Its 'ji e toh'. Which basically means 'honor and dishonor'.

It's not that they won't take wetlandes because they have toh. It's because the wetlanders don't want to confront their toh (dishonor) and earn ji (honor).

I don't really find the word obligation fitting. Obligation implies that the Aiel are forcing people to act in a certain way, while dishonor implies that the person in question needs to realize his mistakes for himself and learn from them. However that's just my take on it.

It's an obligation that they feel themselves. That is what the Aiel are about. The word means obligation, not dishonour or shame. Whilst they may feel ashamed or dishonoured by whatever has occured, they aim to meet their obligations. It's a positive spin really.
