Red Ajah Autumn Fair: Autumn Memories

Panchi

Recommended Posts

All of us have certain memories associated with autumn. It can be something that happened to us once or something we do every autumn. It can be something that autumn reminds us of. The colours, the nature always makes sure that we have some memories associated with this wonderful season.

What are your favourite memories of autumn?

Why is autumn special to you?

Is there something you do every autumn? If yes, what?

Is there a autumn you can never forget?

Whatever it is, this is the place where you can discuss.

What are your favourite memories of autumn?

Why is autumn special to you?

I'm going to tie these two questions together. Autumn is special to me because I was born in Autumn. So, for me, the whole season is one of celebration. For me, the year rotates around Autumn. Autumn is when school starts (even though I am no longer in school. I have spent so much of my life in school that I still look forward to the beginning of the school year).

I love the crisp smell of autumn- the burning of leaves, fireplaces lit for the first time, the chill in the air after a long hot summer.

Is there something you do every autumn? If yes, what?d

Every autumn we go to the Texas Renaissance festival during the weekend before my birthday. Even though we seldomly spend money, I do enjoy the dress-up aspect.

Is there a autumn you can never forget?

My favorite autumn would have to be 1999. I was just out of military training and had moved to Germany. This was the season when I met Mr. Moon, with all that gushy romantic stuff involved in a new relationship. I look back at that as the idealized glory days of my life.

I adore Autumn, as Moon says my whole year revolves around it as there are so many important dates.

My birthday and the majority of my closest friends and family is in Autumn, I love Halloween and from then it keeps going til christmas and New Year.

I wait all year for Autumn to start

And it's the perfect weather to start wearing fluffy woolen things

My favorite memories of Autumn happened every Thanksgiving until I was grown. My mom, my aunts, and myself would go pick mistletoe. Mistletoe can be found near the top of trees. As the youngest one it was my job to climb the trees and get the mistletoe. One year I was climbing a tree, reached up for some mistletoe. I slipped and fell out of the tree and I got to wear a shiny new cast on my arm through Christmas. That would probably the Autumn I could never forget too.

I love seeing all the colors of Autumn and watching the leaves blow in the crisp cool wind. Also I live out in the country and on a nice clear night the sky seems so close you feel you can reach out and touch the stars.

My birthday is sometimes on the Fall Equinox, and when this happens, my parents will usually sit outside with me  (I LOVE to stargaze) with cups of hot chocolate, really hot cake (so it melts the homemade icing ), and some blankets and point out all the different constellations and tell stories . Another thing I associate with Autumn is Halloween, and because of this I like to tell ghost stories.

A good Autumn memory I have is my friends and I have this hill really close to our houses, and we made a bunch of leaf piles  and then got out some tubes and went sledding down the hill into the piles of leaves or tried to dodge them and go over this pit which has a jump right before it. We did this for about four hours and when our noses were red, we went inside and got some hot chocolate.

The leaves changing. We don't get that here in NW Florida.

Why is autumn special to you?

I love the changing of the seasons, which is something I really, really, really miss where we live now. I love cool, crisp mornings and leaving the windows open at night and lower humidity.

Lately, we've gone to some good friends' home on Halloween. The kids go around the neighborhood (they're old enough to go by themselves but hubby still tags along, just to be safe) and Colleen and I (and other ladies, if present) sit in the yard handing out candy. And occasionally, we'll have a bonfire at our house in the Fall (if it's cool enough; often it's not cool enough till winter) and make s'mores.

Is there a autumn you can never forget?

So many were good. I met my husband in the Autumn so that stands out as an unforgettable one!

Family get togethers, mostly by the sea somewhere. By us Easter Weekend falls in Autumn, and we would always go camping (caravaning) or to a cottage somewhere, if the family didn't come to us. We would play games like monopoly and pick up sticks, and card games, to entertain ourselves. This was in the days before we had television in South Africa, never mind computers, internet, fancy 'berries, etc :P

The weather starts to cool and the air becomes crisp. I start getting over my summer blues and my energy levels start to pick up (I'm a winter baby - I loathe and detest summer).

Is there something you do every autumn? If yes, what?

We used to do the above *points to first question*

Is there a autumn you can never forget?

No they all roll into one, really. Though one easter weekend at a very nice cottage by the sea with nothing else around us springs to mind. It was on someone's farm, not a proper resort, so there were no other people around. It was brilliant! Wish I could live there - I'd write books.
