Oh, it's true. And that's just the tip of the iceberg of what this depraved lunatic does when he disappears over the weekends...

Has anyone seen John Carter yet?

I want to. Not to be all Hipster, but I read the John Carter books before there was ever even talk of a Movie!

I have to drag the husband to go see that with me this weekend. And then next weekend, The Hunger Games! (Read those too, before it was cool)

I started reading The Hunger Games yesterday. My big girl read it and it´s sequels in just four day. She say they are great.

I can't believe Disney did such a bad job marketing this - everyone knew that LoTR was based on a book series, but so many people have no idea that John Carter is. For those who have yet to read them, they're short, they're pulp, and they're wonderful. They're also where Lucas got many ideas for Star Wars. Enjoy.

Now somebody tell me about the movie!

I've never heard of the books or the film. I do have a complete day off from everything coming up soon for Mother's day (which is this Sunday in the UK)

Any recommendations on good films that are out at the moment would be great.

What I discovered is that these are public domain. Color me happy, I love free. How many books are there?

Yep, these are old. Way back when, A Princess of Mars was going to be Disney's first animated movie. Snow White was chosen instead, and it took them this long to bring JC to the big screen.

11? I think?

The first three are:

A Princess of Mars

The Gods of Mars

The Warlord of Mars

Any more from there kind of go into other directions, but at least read the first three. They are kind of the basis for all future Sci Fi. Keep in mind that they were written in the early 1900s. I had a hard time getting through them at times, but I pushed on. Just read it in short sections. They were originally published as Serials, so they were meant to be read as such.

As for The Hunger Games, someone suggested them to me right after the first one came out. I had heard it would be a trilogy, and I am currently waiting for enough series to finish, so I put it aside until the trilogy was finished. It sounded like a teen book to me, and someone compared it to Battle Royale, so I said whatever.

Well, I was in the bookstore when they were unpacking the third book (Mockingbird), and remembered that I had the first book sitting on my shelf. I said, ok, whatever, I'll read them.

Went home, flipped through THG, read the first chapter. Didn't have work the next day. And I read. And I read. And I read. I finished the entire series in a day and a half, because all I did was read.

AMAZING. JUST AMAZING. Her writing style isn't that sophisticated to be honest, but the characters, and the story line, and OH GOD I LOVED IT.

And then someone mentioned a movie... I went ape shit crazy. YEAH APE! CRAZY LIKE YOU!

So, yeah. Christine's Book into Movie time over!

Well I found the first five for free on Amazon and I snapped them up. I got most of the Sherlock books this way. And am now slightly obsessed. (hmmm mafia idea?) The last six I'll have to dig for when I have more time and less of a headache. This will at least give me something to read when taking a break from Way of Kings which my hubby let me buy for Vday. I've looked at the Hunger Games series but just not had a chance to pick it up. There's so many on my list right now. A Dance with Dragons being at the top!
