Ararn Sankir, Commissar of the Imperium, surveyed the crowded town square with sadness in his heart. It had been three years since the treacherous chaos cult had been rooted out and that insane Inquisitor- Urmor Garbium- had been killed, his many innocent victims finally given justice.

The towns shredded populace had been repaired however, with an influx of new citizens and convicts from the nearby planet of Zaeko IV, and soon their lives had returned to normal, eager to forget the horror of that week. Vigilantes roaming the streets, and mobs of ordinary people driven into a mindless rage by Garbium tearing apart their neighbours.

Everyone thought they had seen the last of such behaviour, but Ararn was going to have to tell them, although it broke his heart, that they were wrong.

Standing on the platform in the centre of the square, Ararn waiting for the hush to die down before speaking. "People of Tarsum! I come before you with a heavy heart. I would rather walk into the fires of Hell itself than utter these words, but it is my duty as Commissar to speak them."

The crowd muttered and spoke in hushed whispers amongst themselves, wondering what could be so horrible that their Commissar would act like this, breaking his usually impenetrable grim façade.

Ararn continued, "My friends, my family, I have grievous news. I have spent the last few weeks investigating this, and I would not come to you if I was not sure. My friends, there is a Genestealer Cult on the loose. A Genestealer Cult in Tarsum.

Horrified, the crowd descended into a morass of shouting, screams, and confused yelling. It took several minutes before the Commissar could restore order in the crowd. As the rabble calmed down, Ararn saw and sensed their fear, and he continued, "Of course, we all know what will happen if left unchecked. The Cult will grow stronger, until they eventually overthrow or destabilise the entire planet. Once they do this, they will send out a psychic beacon to the nearest Tyranid Hive Fleet, and this world will be easy pickings for the foul bugs."

He paused to let his words sink in. Then, he finished his address, "My friends, we must act now, or all will be lost."

Rules (stolen and edited from Meesh)

1. Editing is allowed. I will assume you are doing so for good, honest reasons, and not removing slips, etc. If I find out you are doing so, I WILL modkill you without mercy. By editing you accept any heat that may bring you from the other players.

2. All Votes and Unvotes must be bold and red. They will not be counted otherwise. You *must* unvote before changing a vote or else it will not be counted. You may not vote for a No Lynch.

3. This is a deadline game. Deadlines are subject to change depending on activity.

4. If a majority (half+1) lynch is not reached by the deadline during Day Phase, a random player will be mod-killed.

5. NO discussing the game outside of mod PM's or assigned QT's. This is a big rule, and a pretty fundamental one.

6. You may reveal your role but not your character or any flavour text I have given out in your Role PM

7. No quoting the mod. Paraphrasing is allowed, but direct quotes of any outside contact with me will result in your death by modkill. It won't be pretty. Don't game me.

8. Dead people are allowed one "Bah!" post, which cannot contain any game-related information. The odd joke-post after death not related to game information is fine by me, but do not make a habit of it please.

9. Play nicely. Okay, it's mafia, it's not a NICE game, but anything outside the spirit of the game will not be tolerated. I don't want to see personal attacks at all in this game.

10. All night actions occur simultaneously. Meaning the order in which I receive them doesn't matter, and no results will be given until Daybreak.

11.Players must be active. At least 1 post per RL day is expected from all players. If stuff is going on and you cannot play the game, that is cool, just inform me and I will find a replacement.

12. As the mod, I reserve the right to change rules, hand out Post Restrictions, kill people, etc.

Also, although they are called a Cult in the flavour, the Genestealer Cult is not ACTUALLY a Cult in the game, but a normal mafia.

Nolder uses day 1 randomness to plant the idea of SK. Covering for his own role?

actually I said Serial Killer because it makes a lot more sense than Mafia

if Christine had team mates she'd be a little less nervous I think and wouldn't feel like she'd need to plant sympathy seeds so early

I guess she could maybe be a Lyncher? how common are those in basic games here?

the only third party scum I can think of that fits is Serial Killer

how many games are you signed up for/playing right now?

Three.....fourth starting soon. Ugh.

But at the same time, it gives the idea that you aren't a 3rd party since you suggested it. So, by my estimates, that could make you a SK or other 3rd party trying to distance yourself from the idea by setting ground work for blame elsewhere.

wouldn't it make more sense to keep quiet and push the possibility of a Vig later? why draw attention in that way so early if I'm the SK? seems kind of amateurish imo

either possibility seems valid with so little information I suppose although I know I am a member of the town

it's also possible I'm wrong and she is in fact just nervous mafia

or I'm completely wrong and she's town

but we have to lynch somebody and at the moment I think Christine is a solid place to start

I don't usually expect SKs in games smaller than fifteen players, so I feel this whole argument may be moot. /:

Maybe they were using it as a distraction of sorts.

Especially considering that this is a BASIC game, so the possibility of third-parties existing at all is unlikely.

i dislike how your jumping to conclusions honestly. BG makes some good poitns about you possibly laying cover, but to me this feels more like opportunistic scum rather than a 3rd party cyaing.

i agree with Levi that this game seems to small for a SK and scum, and we know theres scum in here cause of Hoofs post. so BG gets a big FoS for latchign onto the idea of a 3rd party being in here.

w00t for skipping the day one crap!

Firstly, welcome Lenlo! If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask.

Secondly, I haven't seen Chrissy in a game for a while, and I think her worry about staying caught up is probably half a joke and half legit.

Thirdly, Nolder is an experienced player and knows better than to be so friggin' obvious about breadcrumbing something, so I doubt he is...but will be keeping an eye on him all the same.

Fourthly, Vote BG for seeming so enthusiastic about the possibility of there being a third party

Lastly, if I disappear today, it's because it is snowing like mad here and my interwebs might go out. So if I don't answer, patience, young padawan.

please tell me what conclusion I "jumped" to

I thought I explained my thought process well myself

Ah, but I was merely pointing out what Nolder already noted about 3rd parties thinking he might be covering for himself.

I wouldn't call that enthusiastic as much as I'd call it worried about it based on Nolder's comments. I'm also interested in those who dismiss the idea so quickly too, considering the first post in the "How to setup a Mafia game" post here at DM establishes a basic game example with a SK.
