*waving at everyone*

<-- Semi-clueless noob here!

So y'all know what to expect, I work Weds-Sat ten hour days and have no access to the forums from work. When I'm home I'll probably post a lot, at least when I get the hang of who's who and what's what. I tend to be wordy when I have something to say.

Also, I have basically no knowledge of the source material, so any reference to characters is going to send me on a Google expedition.

Posted

MOD NOTE: knowledge of source material isn't required. However, you should totally see the movies, Song. They are epic.

So I hear! And I'll mostly be Googling stuff so I don't feel like any inside references are going completely over my head, lol...

@Songstress - One thing that new people to X-men usually get wrong since Wolverine is generally the figurehead... Wolverine's power isn't huge claws, but the power to heal himself instantly. The claws come from expirimentation on him replacing his bones with an indestructable metal.... just sayin.

Except didn't he have claws all along, just that they were originally bone claws? I'm going just by the Wolverine prequel movie here, I have very little knowledge of the comic books except for stuff I've heard secondhand. I didn't care much for that installment, while the action scenes were awesome, it kind of dragged otherwise. And it seemed like in all the effort to stay true to the comics, they lost consistency with the existing film continuity. Because someone is bound to say it for their joke vote:

Wolverine did have bone claws in the Wolverine movie. No idea about the comics, I never read them.

I think he did as a side effect of his increased healing... though I don't think the idea was retconned into the comics until the 90's. Before that there was no mention of the bone claws I think.Meh, my inner nerd is arguing with himself.

Pre-1995ish, no he did not. And that's what I consider canon. Post-then, the new origin garbage says he does. As does the movie which is FAR from canon. So pick your poison.

If there was anything which annoyed me about the Wolverine prequel movie (other than the incredibly boring pace when no one was fighting or chasing anyone else), it was this: in this movie, Wolverine and Sabertooth are 150 years old, give or take a few decades, and are brothers. They spend much of their lives alongside each other, fighting in assorted wars and whatnot. There is no mention of any of this in the movies that had been made previously. Now, this is most likely an attempt to shoehorn into the films comics aspects of the storyline that hadn't been introduced in the comics yet when the earlier movies came out. It's understandable that Wolverine could be that long-lived without it being mentioned because he has amnesia. But the huge problem here is... in the original X-Men film, Sabertooth shows no indication at all that he knows Wolverine. There is no expression on his face that he recognizes him, no time he says "Don't you remember me?" Sabertooth isn't really developed all that well in the first movie; he's basically a run of the mill henchman. Wolverine doesn't remember anything, but there should be something on Sabertooth's part to indicate this is a man he's spent the last couple of centuries with. And the prequel totally failed to take the first movie into account on this.
