Actually, I'll disagree with you Finssss. I think the Band of the Red Hand, with Mat in command are the best organised fighting group. Remember the one time they clashed with the Shaido, it resulted in Mat killing the Shaido clan chief and soundly defeating the Aiel with him.

We're not talking about who has best General and strategist. The Band won because Mat picked his ground and suckered them into a trap and fought them on his terms. It wasn't because his average soldier was a better fighter than the average Aielman.

 

How did the Band do fending off the dozen Aiel that tried to kill Mat in his tent in LoC chptr 22?

Mat tells us flat out how it went and even adds "and because they were Aiel" before listing the dead and wounded.

A dozen Aiel vs several hundred Band Soldiers = A dozen Aiel dead, half as many again in dead Band members and twice that or more in wounded.

You cannot separate out the leadership when discussing the most effective fighting force.

 

In that ambush, the Aiel all died, with their target still alive. They got into the camp via a gateway if I'm recalling correctly, so you can't even blame poor lookouts. That's a good result given a suprise attack from within your defensive perimeter.

 

Few other forces would come close to that level of success.

Of course you can and you have to or all you end up with here is listing any force commanded by 1 of the 4 remaining Great Captains or Mat.

 

If Mat takes 3000 Aiel and goes up against Mat with 3000 of the Band, would your money not be on the 3000 Aiel?

Answer honestly now.

Mat has formed a well disciplined and cohesive fighting force with the Band but the Aiel are still the superior force on its own.

Mat makes any force under his command vastly better and the Aiel are already on a higher level to begin with.

 

Aiel have:

*Superior scouts

*Superior speed and movement

*Superior life long training

*Superior versatility of tactics

 

 

Now Mat with 3000 Deathwatch guards (10% Gardener contingent) vs Mat with 3000 Aiel...that's a fight!

The band has

 

*specialists (Map makers, engineers and one kick ass horse thief)

*More types of troops, Infantry, Calvary, and crossbowmen.

*Access to the best tech (Explosives and rapid-fire crossbows)

 

I'm not saying they would beat the Aiel, but they give Mat options. The Aiel are without a doubt the best Light Infantry in the world, but that can also limit them.

So basically...forget where you were born, forget any superior training you had, forget what battles you have fought, forget it all because none of it means a whit unless you're under the command of Mat Cauthon.

If correct that would make you the only one who was able to figure out MBs true meaning in this poll.

 

As I see it he is adding weapons into the mix based on the first question. That would mean Dragons are in play which would be a huge advantage for the band. Of course with that being the case I'm not sure how anyone could answer anything besides Ashaman.

My reasoning is that in TAR a skilled user can do anything you can imagine, wich is totally without restrictions. And no creature in WoT has a better imagination than the humans. So I can't see anything that could be more powerful than that.
