My co-worker and I were just discussing a recent hearing that we attended and she made a wonderful observation that I will share here.  Take it for what it's worth.

A better version:  "Don't argue with idiots because they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience."

Basel I have no idea about your time zone even, let alone your schedule.

In fact, up till this point I was 100% convinced you were pulling these on purpose. I'm happy to give you the benefit of doubt man... But your schedule is your responsibility, not the other players.

If someone runs you up on purpose while you're gone, well I don't find that a classy move, I can assure you - but you signed up the game knowing your schedule and likely deadline timings.

If that sux and don't work out for you, I'm genuinely sorry about it.

First off thank you for the apology it is appreciated. Second, while my schedule is my responsibility, my meta is a matter of record. IMO that should include when I am active in a game when there is a pattern to it, just like someone's posting style as to how they behave ad town or scum.

I'll chime in here.  Basel, I've played a handful of games with you....but to be honest, I don't remember your schedule and that part of your meta is to not be around at certain times.

While Tommy was being a bit blunt with his observations, he's right - if you don't want your scheduling to work against you (and that is a very reasonable goal for you to have, I agree), then you'll need to be more up-front and obvious about it.

We only remember the schedules of the most obvious players that broadcast it often.  If you make yourself obvious town early when you are town, you won't have to worry about getting run up while you are gone - your play in the thread will speak for itself and town won't likely mislynch you.  But you play early games very suspiciously, and that will get attention.  If you are then not 100% up-front & obvious about your scheduling, then it will end with you annoyed.

I don't want to see anybody quit mafia - we all get worked up sometimes.  If you are not interested in altering your early game style, then maybe trying to broadcast your timing a bit more might help avoid the mislynches.  The problem arises when you're scum......town might think you're getting a bit of a handout by not being lynched at a time when the thread might be active and hungry for a lynch.  That is unfair to the town, so I hope you can see and understand that.

I agree with Tommy there.

I'm more than happy to take people's schedules and/or RL into account. Yours too, Basel. Just post it in the thread if you think its relevant. Better enough - post on sign ups before you get a role pm.

We aren't supposed to be aware of your meta or clear you on it (if someone acts scummy as town, they should be lynched until they learn better - not the other way around).

We aren't supposed to know your schedule and clear you on it... Especially when said schedule can come in right hxndy when you're scum.

I'd post it for you again but I think not playing mafia when we got a lot of stuff to do is a good thing so nvm.

But I know pretty much all y'all's schedules and routines and tells :myrddraal:

Random thought - for somebody not playing mafia, you seem to be doing a ton of homework about it.  I'm confused.....

I know who I'd like to unleash on 2+2, but I'm not sure he'd be up to it.  And I'm pretty sure they'd come here in a swarm for payback, lol.

Myndrunner.  He has the unique ability to stay afloat of super-active games, and also make everybody wonder if they are witnessing pure genius, or the complete breakdown of the human mind.

I don't think I've ever seen people react harder to a player than they do to Mynd.  Doesn't even seem to matter what he is saying or doing.

Where did the term holding town hostage come from?

I actually think I might have coined that phrase. I know I've coined a few round here, like "gadgeting" and others

Makes sense tho. Not saying that's what applies to Basel's situation- but if you know you're a likely lynch candidate, and you're not around for a while close to lynch and you KNOW you won't be around but don't claim in the meantime... that's essentially what you're doing. There's a little standoff between the town and a potential blind lynch.

Tommy, I don't expect you to know my schedule, but I had hoped that at some point being absent from every game at consistently the same time would become part of my meta. People who have been on DM long enough would notice a pattern to my post times. That hasn't happened.

Sorry to say this, but altho I've always enjoyed playing with you, and I knew you'd be gone during certain periods, I never, and still don't know what your schedule is. I know it aint quite mine, that's about it hehe. Most players, especially myself, are narcissistic in games. They mainly remember their own plays and behavior, not others as often unless it was memorable for that game.

The last game I played the last game I'll ever play I did exactly that and stopped him getting

Lynched. Of course he was killed that night. It's not a subtle thing.

Weren't you on the scum team that game?
Survivor you darned misrepper. I got nked cause I was too obvious town.

Hate this dumb game.

For someone who supposedly hates it, I think you get more entertainment out of it than anyone else. You read more games than prob anyone who plays, and you remember ALOT.

Me on the other hand... I'm just snark and no fun.

Before someone calls me s hypocrite.

:cough:

Srs do, if Cindy wanted to, she could prob be the best scumhunter on DM. She really does have an encyclopedic knowledge of everyone's meta, and she would have enough thread presence to get ANYONE lynched if she set to it.

As for this recent matter.... I hate to say it but I'm in agreement with the crowd on this one Basel. I'm still fairly vocal about how I'm on a different shift than most, just cause I dun like getting blind lynched while I'm sleeping or something. I think you think it's something personal, but it's not. You do represent an easier lynch target than most, mostly by virtue of your playstyle I'd say. This is coming from someone who def enjoys playing with you btw, I really do. But yeah a lot of time's it does seem like you kinda ignore cases against you, when finally enough people get tired of it and a train grows fast. That you're never seemingly around to fight it off must be frustrating, but mebbe if you responded to more stuff against you early on (while still offering thoughts on others), you would prevent some of those blind lynches.

Mynd would be fun there.  I do love to play with him.

Also @Basel - please don't take this as an attack, it isn't one.

Quick, while his back is turned!
