In Song 172, Mad World by Gary Jules won out the original by three votes to one, maintaining the cover's win from September 2009.

In Song 173, Toxic is tied, showing a decline in the popularity of the cover from September 2009.

In Song 174, [Enjoy the Silence[/i] by Lacuna Coil continues its winning streak from September 2009.

The next three songs shall be up momentarily.

Song 175: Umbrella

The RnB superstar Rihanna takes on Swedish rockers Lillasyster with the song Umbrella. Suggestion courtesy of Majsju.

ORIGINAL: Rihanna

RnB and rap mix for this song as Rihanna and Jay-Z combine forces. It was a massive chart success when released in 2007, topping charts in at least 9 countries, with an incredible 10 weeks at the top of the UK chart. In 4 years, she has sold over 12 million albums worldwide.

COVER: Lillasyster

Formed in Gothenburg in 2004 under the name Rallypack, the group changed name in 2006. Umbrella was released in 2007, giving the song a rock feel while influences of the RnB original can be heard. For those interested, Lillyaster means "Little Sister" in Swedish (according to wikipedia!).

Song 176: Time After Time

Next up is Cyndi Lauper's commercial success, Time After Time, and the Jazz-style cover by Cassandra Wilson.

ORIGINAL: Cyndi Lauper

Lauper's most successful song was released in 1984 and peaked at number 3 in the UK Charts. A popular song for being covered, the ballad is considered a classic from the 1980s.

COVER: Cassandra Wilson

Cassandra Wilson a Jazz Grammy Award winning artist, who has given the Lauper a jazzy make over.

Song 177: Can't Get You Out Of My Head

The 11th song is Can't Get You Out Of My Head, which features the Australian superstar Kyle Minogue as she battles the alternative (in just about every sense!) rockers, the Flaming Lips.

ORIGINAL: Kyle Minogue

Released in 2001, this song reached number 1 in a staggering 40 countries! It is a dance-pop song, and has come to symbolise a signature track by Kylie.

vs.

COVER: The Flaming Lips

Covered in 2002, the song gets the Flaming Lips treatment. While not scoring many hits, they are a critical acclaimed group. They do require a certain taste, especially with their earlier music.

175: Original - Though you should check out the Manic Street Preachers cover which is awesome

176: Original - The cover waaaay too slow. You've got time to go get a cup of tea in between every line.

177: Original - I like the Flaming Lips but that's not better

Song 178: Rebel Yell

This is the first song that I've done here, and I thought a change was good. Even though I have several suggestions that I could have used I found one that I already knew of. So today I'll introduce to you the battle of Rock. This battle features a 80's idol...hah, Billy Idol that is as he faces off against an indie rock band that had a song featured in the original Fast and the Furious, Dope.

ORIGINAL: Billy Idol

Idol's Rebel Yell was the first song on his self titled album that debuted in 1984. It was a huge success in the UK, reaching number 6 on the charts, but it only reached number 46 in the US. This has to be one of Idol's most well known songs.

vs.

COVER: Dope

Dope is an indie Rock band that was based out of New York, but is now more recently based out of Chicago. They might not be well known, but they have done work that is out, including their song Debonaire which is featured in the original Fast and the Furious. Their lead singer has done a lot of consulting work for ESPN and other networks, though by the looks of him, you'd never expect it. Here is a different sound to the 80s classic.

Song 179: Life is a Highway

Making another total U-Turn on the song front, we're going from Rock to Country music today as we look at a recent suggestion. Both versions are well known, with the cover version being used in the Disney film Cars. Without further adieu, let's get down to it.

ORIGINAL: Tom Cochrane

Cochrane wrote this song back in 1991 on his Mad Mad World CD. This song happened to be his biggest hit as it made #1 in Cochrane's native Canada, #1 in Australia and #6 on the US Billboard list. He was inspired to write this album after taking a his family to West Africa to help raise awareness for famine relief.

vs.

COVER: Rascal Flatts

Rascal Flatts performed their cover of this song back in 2006 as part of the soundtrack to Disney's Cars movie. This version became a hit, but not to the extent of the original. While it hit #7 in the US twice, it never made the top 10 on another list. This version has been big in the digital downloading side of music, which helped it clear that top 10 list in the US.

Rebel Yell by Billy Idol came through with a 5-0 win over the cover, continuing it's win from 2009.

In Song 179, it was a close bet but Tom Cochrane came through with a 3-2 victory, changing the vote from 2009.

The next 3 songs will be up shortly!

Song 180: I Give You the Morning

People have made some great suggestions and this is a song I’d never heard in either version. But none the less this should be an interesting battle and there’s not really much to do but bring you the battle.

ORIGINAL: Tom Paxton

Paxton originally released this song back in 1969 on his The Things I Notice Now Album and this album was inspired by the Vietnam War. This song is one of Paxton’s most well known and is still one of his fans’ favorites to this date.

COVER: Weeping Willows

This Swedish band made their cover back in the 1990s and there really isn’t much I could find on this version, except for guitar tabs and lyrics. They have put their own spin to this song and for them, just like with Paxton, their fans really like this song and think it one of their best.

Song 181: Living La Vida Loca

These covers hit all different genres and so far I’ve tried to hit as many of them as I can. Here we’ll hit another one by switching to the, well I’d say pop genre. The song Living La Vida Loca has been seen on TV and in the movie Shrek 2. Let’s take a look at the competitors.

ORIGINAL: Ricky Martin

This song was the hit of Ricky Martin’s self titled English debut album back in 1999. It topped several charts in the US during that year and it led to Martin being nominated for a Grammy. The single has been given the Platinum designation for the number of sales it received in a short time. "Livin' la Vida Loca" is especially monumental because it was the first top ranked song to be recorded, edited, and mixed totally on a DAW or digital audio workstation.

vs.

COVER: Toy Dolls

This English punk band formed back in 1979 and made their cover version in 2000. They normally speed up the tempo to the original songs that they cover and add a punk sound to it. They did not have the same success that Ricky Martin had with the song, but it was featured on their Anniversary Anthems CD.

Song 182: I Shot The Sheriff

Well, after Direwolf Jon's selection, you are back to Corki! And I am back with two music heavyweights in the form of Reggae star Bob Marley, and Blues-rock legend Eric Clapton.

ORIGINAL: Bob Marley

This is one of many songs that make Bob Marley famous. Easy-going and relaxed, the song depicts the point of view of a man who admits to having killed the local sheriff, but claims to be falsely accused of having killed the deputy sheriff.

vs.

COVER: Eric Clapton

Clapton's version of the song is the most successful cover, peaking at number 1 in the US - this happened to be Clapton's only chart-topping hit in the US.

Alrighty!

in Song 180 we saw the exact same results as 2009 where Weeping Willows cover won.

In Song 181 we saw a continuation of Ricky Martin's popularity.

In Song 182, we saw a change from 2009 where Eric Clapton's cover won out against Bob Marely's original.

The next two songs will be up shortly!
