What does Rand do afterwards?

Crael123, that's an allusion to Dune(actually Dune Messiah).  I see everyone minus Egwene going back to the TR for a little R&R; Rand, Mat, Perrin, and Nyneave.  After that I think Rand will travel to Tar Valon and put himself into a stasis box until Britain needs him again.  Then Moiraine will seal Thom into a cave. ;D

IMO I think Channeling will cease after TG and the Aes Sedai will depart in some orderly fashion and Rand will go with them

Nicola's foretelling for the guardians balancing the servants seems to suggest that you are wrong.

Yes, thank you. I think this foretelling is my most common quote.

BTW, Terez came up with a theory where the great battle is in fact something that will go down in Caemlyn during ToM, rather than TG. It was interesting, relying as it did on Arthurian mythology. You can read it here http://forums.dragonmount.com/index.php/topic,59181.msg1771478.html#msg1771478

@coraxian: I rather like the idea of Rand joining the Tinkers. If they still exist as Tinkers after the TG dust has settled. Perhaps they'll be the 'remnant of a remnant'.

@yoniy0: I still think that we've already had a Battle of Camlann/Caemlyn, when Elayne succeeded to the throne of Andor.

I think that it is entirely possible that Rand will be not only in a different body, but unable to channel following The Last Battle.  And frankly, the "settle on a farm with Min getting periodic visits from the other two" is not that far fetched a scenario.  He would certainly welcome it ... he isn't like Mat in the sense that he can never go back to the farm.  As for the glory-seeking assassins ... even if he survives, the world at large is likely to believe that he is dead.  Getting a new body might be the Pattern's way of thanking him for services rendered: it gives him a real chance at anonymity.

'Course if they do set up in the Two Rivers, those visits from Berelain will get reeeeeal interesting.  ;)  And if Berelain is married to Galad at that point it gets even weirder ...

I wonder if Min can learn to channel, probably not but Rand, Elayne and Aviendha are going to far out live her, even with healing.

It would be interesting to have a story set 400 yrs in the future and Rand, Nyneave, Egwene, Elayne and Logain are still alive.  This is prefaced on the AS getting rid of the binder.

My guess is that Min dies early on in aMoL.

Doubt it.  Min is almost certainly the one referred to as "she who sees beyond" on the boat with the one who "is dead" but "yet lives" in Nicola's Foretelling.  Since that occurs when "the great battle [is] done," there is not much chance of Min dying early in aMoL ... or at all, in my opinion.

But Min definitely cannot learn to channel.  The ability to learn can be sensed by other channelers, in whose presence she has been far too often for it not to be noted by now if she could.

How can this seriously be a question?

He is semi-immortal, rich beyond anyone's wildest dreams, with the ability to use magic.

He's got three of the hottest women on the planet.

And he's only Twenty freaking two at *best*

What on *earth* do you think he's going to do?

The answer, my dear boy, is sex. Lots and lots and lots of sex.

He's married to 3 Randland women. That makes a difference. He's going to go live on a mountain to get away from them.

Birgitte snapping at Nynaeve:

Birgitte's smile tightened. "And I knew a woman like

you, once. Mathena looked down her nose at men, too,

and even had a poor fellow executed for coming on her

by accident while she swam naked. She had never even

been kissed, until Zheres stole one from her. You'd have

thought she had discovered men for the first time. She

became so besotted, Zheres had to go live on a mountain

to escape her. Watch out for the first man to kiss you.

One has to come along sooner or later."

Either that or this is the real reason why Lan is riding to Tarwin's Gap.

Also...damn I am glad I didn't grow up with a father that could whack me with conjured rods and switches.

No way, part of the punishment was being made to go cut the switch yourself! Rand using the power is skipping the mental factor that's involved.

No one was mortally wounded though (not to mention being taken to Avalon/Tar-Valon for Healing). And Gawain/Gawyn wasn't even there.

I'm not an expert on Arthurian mythology, but what Terez suggested has a nice ring to it.

I get the impression Birgitte is talking about herself. This is straight from the myth of Artemis and Actaeon - and Artemis' weapon of choice was a bow and arrows, often said to be of silver:

@yoniy0: but Morgase doesn't have a son by a'Thor called  Mordred, who is the person who mortally wounded Arthur:

I know Gawyn is hellbent on getting Rand, but Arthurian parallels require that the person he actually kills be Morgase!

I happen to really really like Terez' theory, but it is rather off topic to discuss it here.  I will only say that the biggest premise behind her theory is that things get twisted and changed with every verbal telling (remember that bit that Thom said about Mosc and Merc on the Sea Folk ship on the way to Tanchico?).

Agree.

  • 1 year later...

I decided to necro this thread, since I just happened to think about what Rand might do afterwards. I've seen plenty of folk say how Rand will want to live a simple life after TG, but would he really? Sure he will never want to assume those burdens he did before, but spending three or four hundred years as a farmer or innkeeper would be the epitome of dull. He's far too young to be weary of life and hope to spend his remaining years in tranquility. And jokes about running away from his girls aside what would he realistically want to do after he takes a long vacation? Enjoy himself researching the portal stones, perhaps finding new worlds and exploring them would sound good, but there are plenty of other things he could research

He's not married to them, he's bonded to them. And seeing as how Rand is likely to die at some point in the story that will be a safe way for him to escape his relationships with Avi' and Elayne. Lets be honest, those two amount to nothing more than breeding stock for the Wheel to spawn many little mini-Dragons. Now he can ride into the sunset, in his own battered body, and live happily ever after with Min in a farm in the Black Hills where one day an arrogant little novice from the Black Tower will stumble across him and be taught a lesson or two .

I guess he could have a farm. But I think he'd still have a hand in events. Travelling arounf the various cities keeping up with his friends. I doubt he'd turn into a total hermit.

He may not be married to them, but iirc, he's destined to have at least 6 kids by them. That ties him up for the next 15 years at least, unless he's the WoT answer to deadbeat daddyhood. Breeders? Ugh. RJ has more class than that.

Look I'm a firm believe in the institution of marriage and believe pre-marital sex to be a grave sin, etc., however lets be serious! When has Rand ever shown any inclination to wait for marriage ? His future children evidence nothing towards being married!
