Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is an upcoming 3-D fantasy-action/adventure film. It is the fourth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, distributed by Walt Disney Pictures and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The film was first announced in September 2008, and principal photography started in June 2010. Unlike the previous films, which were shot primarily on location in the Caribbean, On Stranger Tides had most of its production in Hawaii.

The plot draws inspiration from the novel On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers, with Captain Jack Sparrow, again played by Johnny Depp, searching for the Fountain of Youth and confronting the pirate Blackbeard.

It is also first in the series to be directed by Rob Marshall and not Gore Verbinski. The film is set to be released on May 20, 2011 in Disney Digital 3-D and IMAX 3D, as well as in traditional two-dimensional and IMAX formats. It will be the first Pirates of the Caribbean film to be released in 3D.

On October 7, 2009, author Tim Powers confirmed that Disney bought the rights of his novel, On Stranger Tides, back in April 2007.[29] The script was written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, who wrote the entire Pirates trilogy, and Rossio has stated that they will use elements from the novel, particularly Blackbeard and the Fountain of Youth, but the film would not be a straight adaptation.[30] Initial rumors stated the story had Jack Sparrow and Barbossa meeting up in the newly founded New Orleans, before they sail to find the Fountain of Youth together. But a production spokesman confirmed the claim to be false, saying that the synopsis is different and even though location scouts visited New Orleans, production would occur in Hawaii and the United Kingdom

Plot

Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), and he's not sure if it's love--or if she's a ruthless con artist who's using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn't know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.

I love a pirate story, no matter. I even liked the biggest box office flop of all time, Cutthroat Island. Capn' Jack, Barbossa, Ian McShane (as Blackbeard!), throw in mermaids and a rumbling, mumbling, stumbling Keith Richards?... What's not to like?  ;D

Yeah, it was REALLY bad. So bad that it made you want to run across the room and rip it out of the VCR within the first five minutes.

Let us not forget Air Bud: World Pup.  I wanted to shoot that dog by the 3rd one.

As for PotC, the second and third movies were miserable.  They weren't able to capture the dark edginess of the original, and their plots became ludicrous.  Davy Jones was just too much, as was Calypso.  I have faith that the fourth will be better because they're leaving the Caribbean behind.  Also, I love Ian McShane.

However, the opening scene of the second movie is awesome!  Where he kills the crow on the coffin.

I think I am ok with a fourth.

I love CJS and I think getting off the orginal story will be good. If they had stayed with the same story, then I would have no use for it.

And Blackbeard is my favorite pirate. Mermaids are always good.

Yup, I think I am ok with it. I don't think I will pay to see it in theators but I'll rent it.

Much as I adore Bill Niye I thought him as Davy Jones was more then nessesary. I didn't care for the Calypso bit either. I was really hoping to like Chow Yun Fat in that movie because I liked him in pretty much everything else I'd seen him in. But I didn't care all that much for him, it was just too busy.

In the second film my fave bit was Jack running around going "i've got a jar of dirt, i've got a jar of dirt and guess what's inside it." LOL

what cool little trinkets did you find while you were digging?

I found a poker chip yesterday! :D

I found glass and a piece of the shingle off my roof today. *smirks* No buried treasure in my front yard!

No Orlando Bloom? How can they have a PotC without William Turner? Oh, yeah . . . he only gets to come back every 10 years. I thought that was pretty sucky in the last movie.
