Advertising mafia games

I see a lot of games happening on other boards get advertisements here, but I have to ask. Do you make a plug for this board over in your mafia game at any point?

when a mod askes me or i'm runnign a game over here i'll try and make a plug for it.  especailly if i'm part of a game thats been recently completed.

 

 

normally if i make a plug for a game in a Social Group though, i ask permission to make sure its okay.  same with it i run a game there.

 

 

would you perfer us to PM a certain individual before posting an AD for a game in another section of DM, or maybe having an AD thread for people to place a single post advertising their game.

 

though considering how well the single thread signups worked, i don't know how well the single thread for ad's would work

I get people all the time making plugs on the BT for Games either here or anywhere else on DM, it really doesn't bother me, I have a lot of Mafia crazed addicts in my Social Group :D

I think the best way I've seen of plugging a game is in a sig.  That way it's all over the place.  I've signed up for at least 1/4 of my games via sig links.  Then it can go *poof* when the sign-ups close and you change your sig file.  Fantastic for someone too lazy to spam.  ;)

I like the advertisement's here in Organized Games, I don't venture much out of here and some White Tower Org forums so I never know about other Mafia games unless they are posted here.

I think the point of Barm's question (correct me if I'm wrong, Barm) was that there are a lot of ads here in OG for mafia games throughout DM, but we don't see very many ads in other areas that say "Hey, come to OG for some mafia games!".

 

 

My 2 cents:  I'd like for folks to toss a thread in their areas and advertise the OG as the place to be for mafia.  Then you can run your game here, get OG people to play, and grab folks from your specific area as well.  This allows more people to play, and exposes your area people to OG...who knows, they might stay for more!

Then the people running the games here in OG (whoever is modding) should go to other org's and put ad's there if they want. The argument doesn't make sense to me. The posts aren't "Hey, come check out the mafia games in AAA org!" they are "I'm running X-themed Mafia game in AAA org, come check it out if you want!". Why then should they have to post an "ad" for Mafia games in OG in that vein? If a Mod wanting to run a game in OG wants to advertise it elsewhere, go do it!

Except if you run a game here, you have to be put on the Queue. If people run the games in their own org, they don't have to be on your list and can run it whenever they want!

 

If these posts are such a problem, why not set- up a thread specifically for people to advertise games outside of OG. People who wish to can check the thread to see what other games outside of OG are being run and sign up if they wish. For posting there to attract players, Mods of these games can make a simple statement in their OP that players can find more mafia games in OG if they are looking for more with a link.

I say let it run wild and free. If a mod advertises for a game, great.

 

There is such a buzz right now over the games, and what its done is bring new players and mods into the scene. Look at the new twists and turns that have been created, and the new roles and new ideas that are constantly evolving the games.

 

Rules are fine to create structure and provide a platform, but can be overbearing and tedious if they stop serving a needed purpose.

 

DM is free, and people will do what they will. Play games where you want, when you want, and how you want. Just observe the golden rule - if you want attention, then you have to earn it. heh

 

I'm thinking that the OG board really needs to be the big attraction, and build on a reputation for having the best games by the best mods - kind of like the superbowl of mafia, if you will.

 

I'd love people to think "hey, the OG board is where the mods that know what they are doing are hosting games. And the games are checked over to make sure that they are great!" And I don't mean this in a exclusionary sense at all - the first game I ever modded, I just ran in my org- and I don't expect anything different from anyone else. But by now, you've got to know that if Kivam, myself, and a few others are modding a game,  then a lot of thought went into it and its going to rock. All positive and no negative.

 

The queue is necessary here to keep order. And, the modding rules are necessary to maintain the quality of the games. But a lot of poeple want to try modding, and an org is a great place to do that. If you want to advertise, then great.

 

I'm kind of just typing out loud here. Feel free to add input...

My thought was as simple as this. If you make a thread here advertising, then why not make a quick post in your game thread after your game ends saying "oh btw, more games like this in OG!"

Not my argument - I was just trying to clarify what Barm said.  I might have it wrong, but that's Barm's place to correct me.

I think you might have misunderstood my intention - see DPR's post above.  That was what I meant - OG is the main place where the huge games will be, and by some of the top mods out there.  Everybody is obviously free to run a game wherever else they wish.  A plug for OG is cool, but obviously the prerogative of the mod.

 

Nobody said these posts are a problem.  I certainly didn't.  You seem to be pretty forceful here - you are obviously up to something.  I smell a ploy - you must be mafia!

I sought approval before I advertised....and I am not opposed to plugging OG in my game.  To be honest though, most of the people I see in MGs are well aware of OGs existence...lol
