Manethren Reborn?

Recommended Posts

Would anyone be interested in continuing/retrying the Manethren Resurrection?

I ask because it seems to of died out, and Manetheren was my favorite place in the books and I hate to see it just get abandoned like this....

The concern is though, how many people would like to take part?

If people are interested I can drawn up a outline that would build/continue off of the one that seems to of failed due to lack of people's ability to get along.

Feel free to post here >.> in the meantime I think I will start on the outline just in case, and it couldnt hurt to get a jumpstart eh?

I am working on it, and I will post it here soon, but first, the original project >.>

Timeline for the Manetheren RP

The Past

Phase One

Wolfkin form an alliance with the Miners in the Mountains of Mist after they helped the Wolfkin to find a tunnel under the mountains that led to a cavern with a scrap of parchment in it. In return for this the Wolfkin helped free the Miners from the bandits that were praying on their families and taking most of their profits from their Mining.DONE

Phase Two

The Wolfkin, following the directions on the parchment, find an old ruined city high in the Mountains of Mist. Some of the group speculate that this could be the remains of the capital of Manetheren. Unfortunately before they could confirm of deny this, an earthquake destroys almost all of the remaining structured, nearly trapping the party of Wolfkin under ground. They escaped with virtually nothing of worth, but made sure they could find the city again.DONE

Phase Three

Attacks, by Shadowspawn, increase in intensity in the Two Rivers area, causing the Wolfkin and the rest of the population problems. Fortunately, the Band had moved to the Two Rivers area after having helped defeat the Seanchan invasion. When the Shadowspawn are discovered, marshalling for an attack on Emonds Field, the Band, Wolfkin, a few Asha’men, and three Aes Sedai help to defend the village from the attacks. In gratitude for this, the local population agree to support an Alliance between the Black Tower, Wolfkin and Band of the Red Hand with the ultimate aim of resurrecting the old kingdom of Manetheren. To this end the Band decided to build their Citadel in the middle of the proposed borders for the new kingdom, for this task they had some Ogier help.

It was decided at this stage that a council of Six would administrate the new land until a Leader could be found. No ideas where given as to who that was, but they all agreed that it was important to find a Leader. DONE

The Present

Phase Four

Leila, Leader of the Watchers, heard rumours that an Aes Sedai had recently moved into the two Rivers area, claming to have been born there. Leila investigates and comes away from the meeting not sure what to make of Adine, and informs Owen, the Ranger Leader, of their new arrival. Owen and John investigate this matter and become convinced that this Aes Sedai could be of help to them. After a series of meetings and discussions it is agreed to present Adine to the Wolfkin Council as the new Leader of the proposed land of Manetheren.Done

Phase Five

After gaining the backing of the Wolfkin Council, Owen and Leila escort Adine to the Citadel and call for a Meeting of the Six, two representatives from the Band, two from the Black Tower and two from the Wolfkin, to present Adine to them and ask for guidance and judgement on the matter of her becoming the Leader of the Council.

A word about how the Council works .All the groups sworn to the Alliance swear loyalty to the idea of Manetheren, not to the Queen. The Queen has the casting vote at Council meetings if there is a tie. The Queen cannot dictate a course of action to the Council; it has to be a democratic decision. The Queen still has ties to the White Tower, but agreed to put the interests of Manetheren first as long as they did not come into conflict with her ties to the White Tower. At the same time she gave her word not to do anything that would harm Manetheren if the White Tower so desired it.

Now neither the BT nor the Band accepts Adine straight away, and there are several meetings/discussions where the Band and the BT test Adine to see if they can believe in her, that she is the Leader they want. The course of these rps is up to the Band and BT to work out with Adine.

The Future

Phase Six

Once Adine has been accepted, the Council sends out a decree announcing the resurrection of Manetheren and reveals the new country to the World. At this point various rps should take place, namely the reaction of Andor, the Children of Light and the White Tower. I also think that Shayol Ghul might have something to say about the hated Red Eagle flying high again.

Open warfare might break out between M and the CoL, but I would expect there to be negotiations between M and Andor and M and the White Tower. A dispute breaks out between the Miners in the MOM and the customs ppl in Baerlon where a lot of the gold and precious metals are sent. Andor, in response to M annexing MoM, introduces a special tax on the MOM goods of 100%. This obviously angers the Miners who appeal to the M Council who decide to send representatives to Andor to try and come to some agreement. Possible up shot of this is that M annex’s Baerlon and a corridor from there to the MOM. Second option could be an agreement between Andor and M that recognises the legitimacy of M. This second option could lead to Andor helping M in it’s fight with the CoL, which does not go that well for M and so the addition of Andoran forces could tip the balance. About this time, the White Tower, having heard rumours about M send an emissary to Andor to make enquiries. This emissary arrives just after the treaty recognising M, by Andor, is signed.  When the Emissary sees the Queen she either asks to meet her, having known her in the Tower, or immediately returns to Tar Valon with the news. The White Tower decides on its response.

Phase Seven

With the CoL brought to the negotiating table, Andor conducts peace talks between the CoL and M, and arranges a truce. Both sides agree to compromises and re draw the new boundaries of M. The White Tower decides to send an embassy to meet with M and find out what is going on.

All the time this is going on, Shayol Ghul has been planning. I suggest that SG had launched a small attack in phase Six, but is beaten back with heavy or total losses. If we go with total losses then the SG can plan a bigger invasion in this phase, to coincide with the arrival of the embassy from the WT. This obviously leads to a large battle(s) and other rp’s depending on how many Divs want to be involved in this.

It was under Main Plot stuff, it is from August 2007 two years before I joined DM.

>.> first draft of the outline, posting it here so as to get feedback from people before I throw it at the RP staff (Though lord knows they will read this anyway) here goes....

Manethren Reborn? 1.0

Phase 1-4: The same as the Manethren timeline for RP. (These have already happened anyway)

Phase 5: The council failed to accept the leader put forth by the Wolf Kin and soon dissolves because of mounting differences between the council’s factions. The dissolving of the council is kept from those who don’t need to know of it, mainly lower members of those factions involved and the general populace. (Might need to be done in retro)

Phase 6: Rumors of the council’s abandonment of the resurrection spreads though the communities that would have been under the banner of Manethren, eventually getting to the ears of a few of the lower ranking members of the black tower, band of the red hand and wolf kin. Two of those are the cousins Dracius Valewind and Jonathan Winterwinds who start to talk via letter after Dracius hears of the wolfkin (Though its not in his bio he stopped by Winter’s house after fleeing from his village) they decide to try and spark interest again in attempting to resurrect the old kingdom.

Phase 7: John Winterwinds starts to talk to his leaders about rekindling the attempt to resurrect Manethren, they most likely tell him that he doesn’t know what he is talking about, undeterred he continues the talks and ventures out into the nearby villages to find out as much as he can about the old kingdom. At the same time Dracius is training at the Black Tower and receives letters from his cousin detailing what he has learned and asking if he knows anything else.

Phase 8: Word gets to the Band of the Red Hand on the new attempt to resurrect Manethren, they investigate not wanting to be left out of the loop. Meanwhile John is caught by a wolfkin ranger sneaking out of the stedding to continue collecting information but not before he is able to contact a few more people who wish to resurrect the old kingdom, consequently a few of the nearby villages start to fly the Manethren flag.(It is up to the WK what they want to do to Winter)

Phase 9: The factions that had formed, and later dissolved, the council of six, take notice of how slowly, village by village, the old kingdom’s banner is starting to be risen above the houses, in support of the kingdom’s reformation, and the Wolfkin need to decide if they wish to take up the banner as well.

Phase 10: After much debate, and negotiations, the Wolfkin decide to take up the banner, the Band of the Red Hand is skeptical of this new attempt, since it is so open and can be portrayed as rebellion. In Andor, the word has reached the queen, and it is indeed seen as rebellion and a negotiator along with a detachment of the Queens Guard is sent to attempt to quell the rebellion.

Phase 11:The WT gets word though the AS advisor to the queen of Andor of the attempted resurrection, and a party of Aes Sedai is despached headed by a gray to attempt to aid the negotiation, and to also find out what is going on. The Black Tower likewise sends a party, only due to the fact they can wait no longer to act.  Dracius goes along with this party with the excuse of visiting his cousin.

Phase 12: The part of AS and Andor negotiators arrive about a day apart, about this point, the black tower party arrives via gateways to the BotRH’s Citadel, and is present for the first day of negotiations. Which, needless to say, restart the old arguments that dissolved the council. This time however, the people are represented as well.

Phase 13: All throughout the phases, the shadows have been listening, and near the end of the negotiations, attack. They are repelled, but barely. After the battle(s) John, who had taken part in the negotiations by standing to one side and answering questions to the various people, tells those gathered that if this is not proof enough of how scared the shadows are of Manethren, then perhaps they are blind. Finding no other alternative, and backed by the fact that the only thing the negotiations have show was that the people wanted Manethren back, the Andor and WT ambassadors send word back to their respective leaders on the situation.

Phase 14: Andor, seeing it cannot hold controle of the area without an occupation sends word to the negotiator to start drawning lines on the map (Finding boarders). Boarders are drawn and then sent to the Queen of Andor, who makes a few revisions and sends it back. The boarders are accepted, and Manethren is reborn, leaderless and ruled by a council.

The RP wasn't stopped because people couldn't get along, it was because a lot of the main players left, and there was a lot of staff turnover in the involved Divs.  I was talking to Raeyn about this last night, and I'd like to see the last three phases of the approved plotline finished out, rather than nine (:o) new phases added.

I'll start this post with a little bit of history regarding the whole Manetheren RP.

It was started, by me when i was the DL of the Wolfkin, Ehlana was the DL of the Band, unfortaunately i cannot remember the BT DL's name. This was back when Alin was an Incarn, and here we are talking about 6 years ago. This gives you some idea of how problamatic this rp has been and why i am loath to get invovled in this in any way. Unfortunately two of my characters are "bound" up in the history of this rp, namely Amon Turambar, undere Commander of the BotRH and Owen Glendawr, Ranger Leader of the Wolfkin.

With the help of Messana and Muirenn we got the rp to the position it is now in. However real life events took precedence for Messana and Muirenn and trying to find an acceptable replacement for the role of the "Queen" was an onerous task.

There were two main aims of this rp:

1. To restore Manetheren to some sort of "glory". This was meant to supply a country where anyone was welcome, and where the Wolfkin, in particular, would not be subjected to the prejudices they are in other countries of Randland.

2. Before the whole Manetheren RP came about, the BotRH and the Wolfkin had no main goal, or story line if you like. In the books Perrin and Mat really spend a lot of time away from their "power" base and as such do not provide a main goal for the respective Divisions. At the time the three of us who started this thought it was a good counter point to what the WT, Warders and SG had with their plotline from the book.

As has been mentioned by Muir there has  been a high turnover of members in the Divisions involved and the newere members either were not interested or had their own stories to tell and the whole RP fell apart through lack a lack of members willing to do what was needed.

Now, having read everything on here, and on the Staff board i am still not in favour of this rp being rehashed. But, seeing as i am not a DL, it is really up to the three DL's involved to say yeah or nay.

Ah, thanks for the heads up Owen, i knew it started well before my time here but i never imagined it'd be that long. I figured three or four years at most, to be honest.

Still, chipping in my two cents i'd have to say that since the Manetheren plotline isn't going anywhere as it is, there isn't really any harm done by trying to rehash it and get it active again. Even if the attempt fails, we wouldn't have lost anything, so it's a win-win situation either way.

Well the main focus of the rp, namely the reapproachement between the BT and WT, which was supposed to happen through the interaction of the Queen and the BT representatives on the COuncil, now cannot happen as this was done elsewhere by the previous WT Staff. That and stupid arguements about the northern boundaries of Manetheren really took the shine off of this.

Personally i would rather see the newer members of thr PSW turn their minds to coming up with something other than resurrecting this. With the amount of newer members we have i would have thought that something they could call their "own" would be a better idea rather than pickingover the bones of this :)

I suggest using natural borders to divide the country. The White River in the south, and the Taren in the north and east. In the west, it should extent about halfway into the Mountains of Mist, both to envelop the city that is meant to become the capital, the Citadel of the Band and the (abandoned) mines that are in that area.

Thoughts, comments...?

Been keeping an eye on this. Half the reason i want to resurrect my Bander.

Having said that i think the Band are off someplace else soon... cant quite remember the pretence

Manetheran is a great goal to try for though. Presumably going to be suitably immense, and will make a real impact on the PSW.

Well, I cannot forsee us doing this soon really, seeing as my WK is only a wanderer for the moment and I want him to take part, (The alternitave is a see if I can make NSW and have it take part) and plus my brothers Black Coat hasnt even made it to the tower yet....(Bio is takeing a while to get past Mr BT Bio guy) and he would kill me if he couldnt take part.

This just gives us more time to figure it all out right  ;D

According to a 10 nations map that I found here Manetheran's original borders originally spanned the Two Rivers, Gheadan, the lower half of the mountains of the mist, and the northern Border went from just above the lake in the mountands and travelled down the Manethrendrel. The particular map I'm looking at is teh second colour one on down on the right column on that link I posted just above.
