After last week's clash of the titans, the big names of music continue to clash in the Battle of the Bands as we reach the last two quarter-finals. In the first tie of this week, we see the mighty Ray Charles take on The Beatles for a place in the semi-finals, where they will meet Aretha Franklin.

And to help you out, here is some info on each Artist:

The Champion of R&B... RAY CHARLES

Ray Charles Robinson, known by his stage name Ray Charles, was an American pianist and musician who shaped the sound of rhythm and blues. He brought a soulful sound to country music, pop standards. Frank Sinatra called him "the only true genius in the business." Before he left school, Charles began working as a musician in many bands that played in various styles, including jazz and, in Tampa “with a hillbilly band called The Florida Playboys." This is where Charles began his reputation of always wearing sunglasses. Besides winning dozens of Grammy Awards in his career, Charles was also honored in many other ways. In 1979, he was one of the first honorees of the Georgia State Music Hall of Fame being recognized for being a musician born in the state. Ray's version of "Georgia On My Mind" was made into the official state song for Georgia. In 1981, he was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was one of the first inductees to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame at its inaugural ceremony in 1986.

Ray Charles was the only choice for R&B nomination. Growing up in the influences of southern music styles like Gospel, Country, Bluegrass, and Jazz, Charles pioneered the formation of R&B music. A lifelong musical career capped by both highs and lows have made him a staple in anyrepertoirerepetoire.

The Champions of POP...THE BEATLES

The Beatles were a pop and rock group from Liverpool, England. The band are recognized for leading the mid-1960s musical "British Invasion" into the United States. Although their initial musical style was rooted in 1950s rock and roll and homegrown skiffle, the group explored genres ranging from Tin Pan Alley to psychedelic rock. The Beatles are one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands in the history of popular music. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked The Beatles #1 on its list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

The category of "Pop music" is a bit misleading, as Pop stands for popular music. When looking into this category, you will find artists that are tagged as pop....simply because they do not fit into any one category. We went with the Beatles because, simpley put, they are among successfulsuccesful groups of all time.

There you go - the two champions of R&B and Pop. All you now need to do is pick who you want to win (please highlight in some way or another) and go through to the next stage of the Knock out and one step closer to the Grand Final! You have until Monday 18th August 2008 to make your choice!
