And the second category for Week 7 is Trance. Below are the nominations from the three Regiments.

The Archers have nominated...ARMIN VAN BUUREN

Armin van Buuren, recently voted the number 1 DJ in the world, is one of trance's leading producers and DJs. Since 1995, when his first hit, Blue Fear, was picked up by a major label, Armin has turned out hit after hit consistently. Blue Fear was swiftly followed by an even bigger hit, Communication in the same year. With the success of his first two hits, Armin started up his own label, Armind and released two tracks working with Tiesto under seperate names, Alibi and Major League. His next hit was with System F, a track called Exhale, which reached gold status less than a month after it's release.

By 2001, he had his first #1 hit, The Sound of Goodbye, released under his other working name, Perpetuous Dreamer. In March of the same year, Armin started up his own radio show, entitled A State of Trance. The show features the latest tracks from big name producers and new artists. The show is now in it's 7th year having aired more than 350 episodes and is still as popular as ever, played on radio stations all across the world. It is a tradition of Armin's that every 50th episode will be held at a club somewhere in Europe, free of charge and featuring the DJ's most requested by his listeners including Armin himself.

His major studio albums include 76, released in 2003, Shivers released in 2005, a greatest hits complilation released in 2006 and his most recent release Imagine. All three are extremely popular and showcase Armin's talents as a producer and his ability to experiment with new sounds and often feature vocalists from other genres of music. In 2005 Armin launched a new event called Armin Only, in which he plays to up to 11,000 trance fans for 9 hours and features guest vocalists who have contributed to his music. This proved very popular and was followed by a second edition in 2006 and a third in April 2008. For the latest edition, Armin took the Armin Only concept on tour and played 8 different dates. As a very much fan-oriented DJ, he is always happy to spend time with his fans and give advice to aspiring DJ's, the best of which is "Don't be a prisoner of your own style".

The Cavalry have nominated... PAUL VAN DYK

Paul van Dyk (born Matthias Paul) in Eisenhüttenstadt, Brandenburg, East Germany) is one of the world's leading electronic dance music DJs and producers. He was a trance producer in the early 1990's, but has since stated in interviews that he no longer defines his music as trance.

He now hosts a show on Radio Fritz every Saturday at 20:00 GMT. In his latest gigs, he blurs the line between DJ'ing and live performance engineering by utilizing two MacBook Pro laptops sporting Mainstage (Logic 8 Pro) and Ableton Live software on both, two Midi keyboards, enabling a more fully-featured club experience more acting to a concert than a standard night out at a dance club. On-the-fly remixes, mashups and compositions are just some of the capabilities of this new performance method.

In May 2008, Paul van Dyk set up a remix competition with digital download network Beatport.com, inviting aspiring producers to remix his single 'Far Away' which appeared on his 2007 album 'In Between'.

The Infantry have nominated... ROBERT MILES

Robert Miles) is a Swiss Italian record producer, composer and musician in trance and ambient music.

In 1994, Miles wrote his most famous dream house work, titled "Children". The single picked up steam slowly, and within two weeks of its official release in 1995, had sold more than 30,000 copies all over Europe and topped the charts in many countries. It earned Miles platinum records in the UK and Germany and gold records in other countries. "Children" fell shy of reaching Top 20 status on the US charts, but remained popular with the DJs. In December 2004, "Children" reached new audiences in the UK when it was sampled on a collaboration between Angel City and Ministry of Sound, entitled "Do You Know?", which reached the Top 10 in the UK.

Wow, what a hard choice. Being a big trance fan, I like all three artists quite a bit. All three have been going for a while, but I notice that Paul van Dyk and Robert Miles tend to stick with a certain sound a lot. Armin likes to branch out a little more, which I really like. His music is something I can listen to no matter what mood I'm in. :) He has also been known to be highly in touch with his fans and can recognise many of them on sight, something I'm sure his fans love.

I vote [glow=red,2,300]Armin van Buuren[/glow].

Not really a fan of this genre and i've only heard some of Robert Miles's stuff and I've really liked those I've heard so he gets my vote

Who ARE these people? .... Ya know.. This stuff kinda reminds me of music heard on Bill Shatner Star Trek episodes for music in the future.... And puts me right to sleep.. I think thats why it's called Trance. My spouse's Sounds of The Everglades with mosquitoes and frogs  and orchids blossoming is more engaging...

But Mynd says van Dyk .. so the German lad it is

Because we currently have a tie between Armin van Buuren and Robert Miles, this thread will be left open for another day until we get a winner.
