a question - rand's half brother?

I wonder how Elayne would react if she finds out that Galad is Rand's half brother. Knowing Rand, Rand would be overjoyed to have a blood relative that is alive at least. Elayne would have to soften her heart toward Galad. Her mother, Morgase, has a soft spot for Galad even though Galad is not her son.

he does? we know he suspects galads mother (spacing on her name) of being his mother, we know he knows she had a child before goign to the three-fold land. But i'm not sure if he ever put 2 and 2 together and realized galad is his half brother

They did meet once, in the Palace Garden in tEotW as you say. And Rand is almost certainly aware of the relationship, although he never comes out an says it. He researched Elayne's geneaology pretty carefully, if somewhat clandestinely, and got the whole Tigraine/Shaiel connection from his conversations with Dyelin. He's more than smart enough to put two and two together. But he's not going to say anything, so as not to make Galad a target. As someone else already said.

He found out that galad was Tigraine's other son in the palace at caemlyn, and the aiel pretty much confirmed it was his mother. Look what he allowed to happen to the Two Rivers, and you'll see why he is ignoring Galad. Rand is turning into a guy who has the emotional awareness of a rock, with vein of gold in it. (hah)

Rand knows of his and Galad's relations although its more likely he's buried so deep in his memory so as to keep from making Galad a marked man.

This is one thing I like about this series like the importance of Elaidas' prophesy about the royal family of Caemlyn being key to the future. She wrongly assumes this means Morgasa, and never realizes it is Tigrains line that is pivotal.

RJ crafts a great story.

Well my personal position is that Elaida's prophecy was more complex then she realised; specifically in the use of the word line, as in a series of points.

I think it was referring to the fact that everyone in that line had a role to play. I mean, we obviously have Rand; but Elayne has played an important role too; even vital between her work on ter'angreal, her work with Moghedian, her work with the Bowl and so forth. For that matter Gawyn, Galad and Morgase have all had parts to play.

Can't remember Rand ever saying something about Galad

As was said above, Rand never directly connects the two in one of his POVs, for all the reasons stated above.

But, Slayer does - refering to Rand as his (Luc's) nephew. Which, can get a little hairy if we let the "Isam is Luc is Isam" idea out - 'cause that means Rand and Lan are distantly related - Lan is Rand's uncle's cousin.

When you add Moiriane in the mix (who, as Taringail's half-sister, is aunt to Galad, Gawyne and Elayne), it really gets wacky.

Yer, ive wondered before why Elayne and Moraine never got on a bit better, a novice with her aunt as Aes Sedai, and Moraine was never really strict about the formalities.

Although Moraine has distanced herself from being a Damodred quite thoroughly it seems, sometimes i find it hard to keep track of whos related to who :/

The one thing I fail to understand is why Elayne gets childishly pretty upset when anyone mentions that she is Galad's half-brother? I mean, she denies it vehemently, as if it's not true, and I think Gawyn remarks it as well. Something to do with Galad's personality?

Yes, Elayne doesn't like Galad at all. He probably wasn't the easiest person to grow up with, considering his personality. Although she does soften a bit toward him in--CoT, was it? She mentions hoping he's alive, and that she feels some affection for him.

What a family reunion...

Moraine (back from FinnLand), Luc (back from the blight), Morgase (back from the dead), Lan (back from Tarwin's Gap), Thom (Elayne's dad?), Gawyn (back from Tar Valon), Galad (with a few thousand Whitecloaks as escort), Rand, Elayne and her twins.

Who will bring the fried chicken?

No. Moiraine is Galad's aunt through his father. Rand is Galad's half-brother through their mother, and is not at all related to the Damodreds.
