Porn spam increasing (Attn. Admins)

Ok, I appologise to all those of you who does not concern this because this is actually aimed at the Site Administrators and staff.

But there isn't an actual board that allows us to aim posts directly to the admins, so I'm sort of forced to do it here.

The entire community of DM recently and on several occasions were confronted with the loss of a lot of their posts, causing no end of trouble and frustration in a variety of aspects.

Then we changed servers supposedly to get an end to the porn spamming.

Result?

loss of weeks of work, frustration on a monthly basis, fleight towards offboards increasing, anti-DM board feelings increasing, motivation dropping and...... what do you know? The porn is popping up left and right.

We on the org side are bombarded with 'demands' to keep activity on the DM boards up 'or else...'

How do you expect us to do that under these circumstances?

Oh, I also would like to suggest a board where people can post messages directly to the admins and senior staff without having to post them on a random board with the risk that it may escape the notice of the admins. And if there are such boards, then maybe they need a more obvious name because I couldn't find them.

Generally, I ask that people email me at Community@dragonmount. Otherwise, this is the place to put topics like this, since it's an issue that affects the general community.

We know about the spam problem and we're just as frustrated as you are. Probably more so, since we're the ones who have to delete this crap. I'm spending time that I should be spending on improving the community, deleting nasty posts and other nonsense.

We're working on a technical solution. Just be patient with us. Please don't flood my inbox with the names of spammers. By the time I read my PMs, I've already deleted and banned the accounts.

I've had this problem on some sites I help moderate myself....I don't have access to IP adress but if you find that most of its comeing from one adress you can (under most set ups) ban that adress.

A freind of mine recently told me why the spam increasing everyone of those links as special code that tell someone who "special link" was used...if you buy a subscription the spammer gets paid.

So either there IPs are banned or you pray no one is stupied enough to click on there links and go to the sites.

Of course there are ways around IP bans but most people don't go through the trouble.

We've been banning IPs. We've also started banning IP ranges. I've also banned several of the email domains they are using. They just switch to another one.

It must be undead spammers! Keeping fighting, Kathana; they have to die eventually! ... don't they?

Do you really think that was the best way of putting it?

heh.

On a serious note, I delete all of these posts when I see them on the forums I am allowed access to as a mod. There are many more boards that I can't delete them on though. If there is a way to let me delete those posts on those boards as well, i would be happy to do it. I'm sure all of the mods would as well. We'd be like DM exterminators zapping Britney Bugs and Chritina Cockroaches -

Apparently, there is some sort of bug in the version of forum software we're using and that feature doesn't work properly. We need to either upgrade or downgrade, which will happen as soon as Kevin has the time. They know I'm leaving on Friday, so hopefully it'll be soon.

All the ORG side Mods (i.e. ORG Leaders, Book Discussion Mods etc) should have access to Moderator powers for all the boards that are not in the RP realm of moderating. I know that as soon as I see a spam account I post the link to the profile, as well as links to the individual threads, in the appropriate place in the DM Staff Board before deleting those threads I can.

Yes, the posts have increased, but please be patient with us Mods as we tackle these posts. We do our best around here to catch these evil people. However, they will probably evolve somehow and come back at a later date.

1. there are too many people to let everyone mod.

2. if you let everyone mod, well, then your spammers are mods too.

3. i like picking on boyo.

4. there is too much inherant power in modding to not think through each new hire.

5. boyo isn't allowed. never. ever. ever. ;) ever.

seriously, ever.

Wow.... The pain.... oh well.... I probably won't have the time for it in the future anyways... I'll probably have barely enough time to show up here for a few minutes.
