Great game guys, thanks!

Town, you did a good job! It's not your fault that there were so many inactives. Just the few of you kept us on our toes. If you'd had a full team the whole way, this would have ended differently. Thanks for the challenge!

Probably shouldn't have done that. There's still a vig out there so Darthe may not call the game immediately.

I actually looked up vigilante on the mafia wiki and saw that it's a night action. Now, I know that that is for another site and not this one, but so far, everything I have seen here and looked up there in order to better understand it seems to be the same, so I figured that would be, too. Also, we made sure with Darthe in mafia QT that we win at parity, and the votes were locked, so as long as it was a lynch, it was a win.

Well, that was painful to watch for more reasons than one.

Good job Ben, btw! How many games have you played and is this your first time as Mafia?

Thank you! This was my third game, my first time as mafia, and my first time to survive D1. I look forward to playing some more.

We have about the same experience only I usually make it near the end of the game and haven't been scum yet.

I suggest trying out a hydra game! Super fun and you have a partner in crime (or in fighting crime :P)

For future reference, Mafiascum wiki is alright in a pinch, but I would generally recommend the Mafia Universe Roles index (under Features) as your first stop.

I think the best move for town this game is to hypo vig day 1 or actually claim vig as soon as the game starts. If all three vigs are going to be revealed it just becomes a race to find scum and because of unpredictability all three vigs are bound to shoot n1. It makes little sense to counter claim vig unless there is only one left. A one for one in the early game is always better for town. And if all three are going to be revealed I would rather wait for day 2 or night 1, and make things that much simpler for town. If I was a vig I would definitely shoot n1, but silently hoping to catch a cc and to see what happens tomorrow. I would play this game again and try to break it to see if it is possible.

That would be fun; I would like to try a hydra game sometime! And thanks for the props in the spec thread! In my first two games, I didn't do very well, so I was surprised to have lasted in this one, especially after mistakenly posting in here instead of the Mafia QT. When BFG subbed in, she couldn't get QT to work, so we started a new mafia chat in a PM here, and I just got the tabs confused as I was bouncing around, just like I explained to Nynaeve. What is really ironic though, is that in my last game, I tunneled on a townie for getting threads mixed up, and I was sure she meant the game thread and mafia QT, which is exactly what I did in the very next game, but no one caught it.

Straight up, Verb's family had to say goodbye to their dog, and having been through that, I'm here to help out.

With any luck, everybody has wired their a**es a little tighter and we can get right through this thing.

That's really sad, sucks he had to go through that.

My reads are unchanged.

That would be odd if it was.

Well, now you're a Rough Rider as well as a pirate!

Fun fact - I'm actually in that picture. Bottom left, holding my flask up.

Sounds about right :P

Also, wtf, I take one break to have dinner with my mom and game ends???

Honestly Nyn, not really chill, that's actively going against your win con, but whatever.  It was looking bad for us anyways, and I think SK was the only one we might've lynched today, barring new developments.

Wait I'm kind of curious, what comment was that?

Also, my original mafia guess at night 1 was sooh, nyn, clov so guess I was 1/3.  Not great at all lol

@Darthe thank you for the game and your time. I had fun. Feel free to pre-in me for your next game. I'll stick around and try to join another game.

Will do!

@Ben good job dude. In a more active game we would probably have to post more since the days are so fast your abscence is noticed quicker. And as you saw with some players this game effort does not indicate alignment. It is an easy trap to fall into because sometimes it just feels so true. Follow through on your observations as well. For example early in the game Adella saw three people vote Verbal and said one of them is likely scum, what she did not do is evaluate the likely hood of that possibility nor did she play her theory out in thread by questioning/poking/cajoling/taunting/Inducing/deducing/ well you get the gist of it. It is easy to throw out vague statements look at things inductively and if you feel like voting someone vote them. no big deal you're town after all :p good luck in your next game new friend.

as an aside you notice a lot more of your mistakes as scum so try to be as consistent as possible. That's why I said in the qt iirc to just go with the flow. If you try to conjoin and string together everything it looks forced in thread. I had fun playing with you I hope to play with you as town next time.

Yeah this town didn't take advantage of the setup at all, and I think that was pretty detrimental.  I'll likely run this setup again in the near future, and I'd like to see a bit more mechanical talk and involvement in that one.  I think folks just got a bit too derailed here by things that weren't pertinent to the alignments of those around them.

Some examples for the next round from the setup maker:

Claim all vigs D1.  Shoot N1.  At worst you have 2 confirmed town and 5 dead town and 66% chance of lynching wolves at lylo.  At best you win the game.

Claim all vigs D1.  Holster all shots.  You now have 3 confirmed town.

Any time you have the vigs claim the Mafia has to claim a vig too or else they confirm three town and increase the odds that they get shot by a lot.  Mafia has to get in that claim fest, so it makes it to where the claimed vigs can all shoot among themselves but if they do they do so on separate nights and each calls their shot.  It's a free wolf in the long run  (either by the designated one not having a shot go where they said it would/no mafia kill or by shooting the mafia) and in the short term it maintains those clears while you hunt for the other two.  Also if you kill our out the mafia vig claim early the other shots are suddenly much more potent.

End day 1, pre sub, I think if I had to give reads they'd have been

Town leans:

LZM (but only strong after end of day)

Nyn

Sooh

Hallia

DPR

Unordered nulls:

Ben

SK

Verb

Rand

Adella

Lean scum:

Marsh

Chris

(obviously not teamed following night1, not surge which way I'd have gone)

And all of my town leans were insubstantial until lzm night1, I also entertained teams with some of them in so really not that strong.

This is a really good point.  I'm kind of disappointed I didn't even think about this, usually that's the kind of logic I like to think about, but I was so focused on trying to get back into the rhythm of reading people that I forgot about the more mechanical aspects of mafia.
