OoooKay, so in the sign-up thread, the "in" post I was remembering form Cory was #31, which is not an actual "in" so much as an acknowledgement of being listed as in the game.

 

Regardless, dude was signed up to play, then he dropped, then he edited his drop posts. So there's that.

 

Recruitment mention posts incoming.

I think this Cory thing is stupid. We have no reason to believe he is in the game, it was advertised as a 13 or 16p game, which leads me to believe the Laughing Man was going to be in the game regardless of actual player numbers.

 

This argument about whether or not Cory is in the game, when we have no evidence in the actual game only in the signup thread, to support it smells of fear mongering to me.

The idea of speculating whether it was Cory in the game had nothing to do with Cory and everything to do with preparing to deal with whatever role TLM does actually play. Who the player is doesn't matter. That it might be a live player vs. a mod device does. 

 

So when Seph voted and then unvoted, it raised that question of it being a trap, especially if its a mod device. I pointed out the information about Cory because I find it a possibility that he might actually play that role - I've run games where I had players post as character before.

 

You calling it fear-mongering is weird... what is there to be afraid of? We know we have the character/player, so spec'ing on what it does seems like a good idea. 

 

Fear-mongering was probably not the most appropriate word, but it seemed good enough to me. I may have misinterpreted the convo, but it seemed to me focused on whether or not Cory the player was actually that role or if he was in the game, and less focused on the mechanics of TLM. If you want to discuss the former, then I think you are fear-mongering about the existence of a player who most believe to be pretty skilled. If the latter, then please do. I encourage it. I think its probably an npc role, the real question is if it is an obvious trick to waste a turn or if its a legit thing we should lynch. I should mention, I believe I was the first person to bring about the idea of TLM being a trap so I have in no way tried to stifle conversation about it.

 

So tl;dr, fear-mongering to me was in reference to the idea that Cory, a skilled and respected player, was in the role because it makes some people very nervous about it. I also think the mention of recruitment, which we have no evidence of, is very likely to sow some discord and distrust in later stages if it is constantly referenced. Dont worry about recruitment until we have a reason to is my motto, otherwise town will tear itself apart.

 

 

 

Still weird, and for the same reason as the first time. You're the one trying to push Cory as a threat - who cares who an npc player actually is?

 

The relevance is that it's either an active account or it's a device and the reason to figure that out is to determine whether or not it's going to have an effect on the game the way a live player would, interacting with players and evolving opinions as they go along. Or, If it's just a device, then we figure out what it does and see if it can benefit us. We do that by outlining what we are looking for and keeping an eye on things. 

 

I feel like I explained that before, in which case you could have said "okay - good idea" like you did to some extent above. Instead, you threw in the part about Cory being a threat, and you mention it twice, which make it look like you really wanted to make that point.

 

A townie trying to solve the game doesn't warn about distraction and then add a layer of distraction - just sayin'. Then you go on to talking about recruitment again, which is even more distraction when nobody is pushing that idea or making a case over it - it got mentioned like things do, dealt with, and now it seems to be out of the way except for you bringing it up. 

 

I've bolded all of the negative terms that stick in my brain like little thorns and my takeaway is that this ain't no townie post.

Sooh is still a hard read for me tho Ive seen Town!Sooh look much better atp then she looks thus far.  That doesnt make her Scummy by any means atp shes pretty Null to me as of now.

You two are goofs. I have like one or two scum games where I haven't been obv!scum by the end of D1. I don't even know why you're so afraid of me.

So, does anyone else feel like this mystery laughing man is giving mafia an excellent way to blend in on D1? I mean, you can literally look like you're doing tons by just thinking of outlandish ideas for this npc, but in truth you're just searching for a distraction.

It just looks like people are talking about an actual aspect of the game while other folks drift into the game. Especially so early, what is there to distract from?

There really hasn't been overly much to discuss so far in terms of players who have posted, but that might be because I've been catching up in less than ideal circumstances up until tonight. Might have to reread tomorrow.

I understand where Lenlo is coming from tbh. It's not very useful to freak out over a game tool that might be a good or a bad thing before we know more. 

 

Zander is a spazz, that's where I'm at currently. 

 

However I would say that I believe he's more likely to be town just because of the level of enthusiasm.

Yes, though entusiasm should be assessed with caution irt him cause he can get excited at a good team. Still i tend to agree on the lean. He feels more annoying vs a jerk. Feels more jerk-y when scum.

Ok tell me Zander why os that weird? In my first game people were posting games in the past and telling us to read this or that. Nyn was in some of these. She was also dead thread and we all got to read that after. So I am using what information I have overall learned about her to try and make the best guess I can on her alignment. Is that not what these iso posts are supposed to be about?

Tell me in your own words what you expect to see from townNyn and from scumNyn...from what you say you've read. What is the distinction?

Like i said before, lenlo's stance mirrors my own. And in a world where lenlo makes sense I'm not sure i want to be right. But i still think i am. Getting good vibes overall though so there's that. God help us all...

Zander the only question I'm sitting on right now to the best of my memory is a very general would you give reads and reasons and thought process for me to evaluate kind of thing. I don't really have enough and I don't feel good enough about anything to share it yet, other than my read on Nyn that I'll say is a heavy assumption that she's not a very comfortable mafia-alignment player and I was incredibly satisfied with the tone of her posts saying she wasn't likely to be around much during the weeks which she made right before I gave it. Those are VERY hard posts to make when you're nervous about them.
