There's a few things that make me uncertain about this:

    1. The "corruption" is shown in scenes with Logain as merely sliding over the same white weaves as Moraine uses.

    2. "One of the five of you."

    3. Tweet from Sarah in response to a question about Callandor being Saidin exclusive: "...Callandor is meant to be pulled from the stone by the hand of The Dragon."

    4. Tweet from Sarah asking her to go on the record about gender changes: "WAFO."

    5. Tweet from Sarah in response to a reader saying that he/she is excited about trans representation in the books, "you may want to work on your cardio in the coming weeks if just this chat makes your heart flutter."

    6. Tweet from Sarah: "more than the madness of the Dragon I feel that people fear *their* birth means an impending battle with the Shadow and the Dark One."

    7. Saidar and Saidin have never been mentioned by the official promotional material or anybody involved in the production of the show, not even in the trailer breakdowns or explainers.

    8. A rigid gender binary is not Kosher these days in our current climate.

I suspect the terms saidar and saidin are gone.

  2. 7.5

Very impressed with visuals so far. Cast looks good and seems to get their characters. Some of them are even getting far into the books. The Perrin wife thing and Mat’s parents rumors don’t bother me too much if they are true. The only thing that has me worried is the dragon gender stuff and possible ta’veren changes for EF5. There is doubt now. I would have said 9.0 a week ago.

    ^ You're probably right.

If I really want to enjoy the show - I just need to focus on the good. Stay in the light. Stop channeling Saidin & not go insane focusing on what's all wrong.

    To those ends...

I'm very pleased with the actors themselves. The Trollocs. The sets are gorgeous. The costumes are cool... I think it's got great potential to be a cool show.

I think I’m feeling identically to you about this. Maybe I need to take a break from social media and go take a walk in the sunshine. Something like that ? What’s done is done for this season.

So it's undergarment > breastplate > white dress > plastic looking piece to keep the plastic looking shoulder piece in place > cloak?
Personally I don't think there's a breastplate underneath that dress. They all should look more bulky in that case.

Well, a lot of stuff looks good (and so it should with the millions of dollars they got to spend) but the Whitecloaks just look like a shitty cosplay group. We actually had to laugh when we saw them for the first time in that leaked photo and were hoping they were just taking the piss with us. Sadly they weren't. It's like what they did with the Nilfgaard armour for The Withcer tv show.

But I guess, in the end there's no arguing taste ?

I agree the outfits aren’t great, but not going to nitpick things like that.

I think that's the part that a number of us disagree with. If the Aes Sedai believe the dragon can be female, there should  be changes of great consequence within the world. For one, this likely makes a female dragon preferable to a male one who must channel saidin and deal with the taint and likely go mad. That should be a huge plot point ripe for Aes Sedai manipulation/usage.

It's not difficult to imagine during the tower's history a strong sister (or sisters) attracting followers believing she to be the one, and the repercussions that would have. I'd imagine the DO would be very on board with the prophecies being non specific about gender to allow for and to make use of the divisions within the tower and the chaos that would certainly ensue. I'd further imagine that it wouldn't take very much manipulation on the DO's part to birth the Aes Sedai faction of male dragon reborn assassins... I don't think it would take much for some reds to truly believe it's best for the world to eliminate a male dragon with haste to roll the dice again and hope the pattern might spin out a female dragon, before all is lost. And the black ajah... Sewing division within the tower becomes easier, bringing about the death of the dragon reborn becomes easier... Things of consequence should  happen.

And presumably if there are no prophesies specifying the dragon reborn to be male, and the Aes Sedai believe a female dragon is possible, then likely a large portion of the world's population won't know any better either. And so we have all the same concerns about female false dragons, using the situation for political gain, using the desire of the populace for a female dragon where possible, wars, repercussions through history, shaping of nations, however far you want to go.

    ? concur

I'm just curious. What is the purpose behind this post? Are you contributing to a discussion? Is this your opinion of the video? Or are you just trying to stir people up?

Easy there Elder. I was replying to an earlier post about expectations. Should have quoted.

Car'a'carn doesn't have anything to do with the Dragon Reborn strictly speaking.

I do think its rather hard to keep people doubting that Rand is the Dragon Reborn all the way to the latter books. He knocks down prophecies left and right and battles the forsaken every tuesday. Sure it could be a giant misdirection from the showrunners but I don't know if the story is structured in a way to make that feasible.

Correct about Car’a’carn, that’s aiel based, but the etc means the others I didn’t mention.

If you think about it, the question about Rand being the Dragon was asked by people in the book pretty much till the end.. heck even people in Tear questioned it after he took the stone...  we know who he is because we are in the authors head but the idea that people were still questioning the idea that Rand was the Dragon Reborn is all over the books, just as side notes of people of high and low rank and not any of the main characters making statements...   Even Pedro Nail thought he could be the dragon reborn, or that the Whitecloaks  would be the Dragon Reborn if I remember one of his discussions with Morgase....

So then he doesn't take Callandor, doesn't become Car'a'carn, etc. Those prove he is TDR. I was really looking forward to buying Callandor when merch comes out.

But you don't know that because you haven't seen the show. What bothers me about the folks who are so bound and determined to see everything through a negative lens is that you are pre-emptively talking yourself out of liking something before you try it. It's like when my son was a toddler and refused to eat pepperoni pizza because he though the pepperoni looked gross. Now it's his favorite.

How about we just wait and see...

I want it to succeed, but my confidence is waning. They managed to alter lore and the way the dragon is perceived (probably many snowball effects) in the first minute of the show.

I dread to think what else they are going to change and/or introduce into the story.

/shudder. We're just seeing the tip of the iceberg of a potential catastrophic mess for WoT fans.

And yes, unfortunately it was predictable.

I think the writing is on the wall unfortunately. This is feeling like fan fiction. Really hope I’m wrong.

I just noticed the story on the front page says this is actually the first minute of the show, (don't think I saw anyone in the thread mention that?) Which means it definitely isn't just marketing trickery. This has to be the big change Brandon was talking about. I don't like it (yet). But I'm not going to get too worked up until I see how they handle it.

That would be an unfortunate first minute
