  1. Also, the Ajah colors show up in other places. The steps leading to the Portal Stones in TGH are in the Ajah colors and that predates the Tower by quite a bit.

As for why they did it this way, it’s because television is a visual medium. They clearly have focused on creating very striking imagery, especially in the first episode where most of the clips for the trailers came from. They wanted some big, cool stuff to make people go “ooooh. What is that??” I leave whether or not that is a good thing as an exercise for the viewer.

Well, personally I thought her dress looked ugly and silly, and reminded me of the Kryptonian Council in Superman: The Animated Series (not a complimentary reminder) ?..

We’ll, that’s just a matter of taste then.

  3. So I don’t think that last statement is *wrong*. But the details the show has chosen to emphasize are different than what we as readers emphasize when we read. Rather than trying to recreate everything exactly as described by Jordan, they instead looked at what they believe his intentions were are interpreted from that. There’s plenty of evidence that the show (I’m using that term instead of specifying an individual like Rafe or Sarah because production design is a team effort) has done a deep reading of the material and understands what they are doing. I don’t think it’s been 100% successful, but it’s not because they didn’t do their homework.

  4. I actually really love the costuming on the show. There’s a couple choices I think are odd (Amalisa’s weird puffy skirt.) but for the most part I think the costumers did a good job of reinterpreting the books. It is definitely not what I pictured when I read, but it works.

Anyways, Bernadette Banner is watching the show and has decided to recreate Moiraines Tar Valon gown so here’s a video of pure seamstress porn.

Any of you know about book sale increases? I am curious how it is being effected.

I was just at Books a Million with my grandson, he was buying manga books with his gift card. Next to the manga section (in the middle of the main aisle) was a table that said TV and it had Witcher, Hobbit, Wheel, and Shadow and Bone books. There were 3 employees near the table, so I asked them.. "Has there been a spike in sells since Wheel of Time tv show came out?"  They looked at me like I was an alien or something so I repeated myself "The Wheel of Time, have sells spiked since the show came out?" Still all looked confused so I asked "You do know there is a Wheel of Time tv show right?" one answered "No, had no idea".

We get up to checkout and I hear the cashier talking to the customer in front of us "Since the tv show came out the books are selling like crazy." So I ask, "What show are you talking about?" and she said "The Witcher"...

She did say WoT was selling but nothing like the Witcher.

Brandon said in one of the livestreams that the series was back on bestseller lists, but he wasn’t specific beyond that.

I can tell you that JordanCon is going to have its largest attendance ever in 2022. We’ve had to cap membership at 1200, otherwise we’d still be selling them. Our largest year previously was 850ish.

I find it curious that a lot of the big names that reviewed episodes 1-6 prior to release have not reviewed the finale, or at least updated their season reviews to include episodes 7-8.

No one publishes new content between Christmas and New Years.

Anyways, I think we’ve noticed most of these but it’s a fun list. https://www.buzzfeed.com/taylablaire/easter-eggs-in-the-wheel-of-time-tv-show

From reading through this thread it seems other people saw something different than I did in the AoL scene. Did some of you have subtitles? I couldnt understand any of what they were talking about and the visuals gave no clue - could have been discussing a school for the baby with it all in Old Tongue.  For anyone who did have subtitles - how do you turn them on just for that scene?

We didn’t have to turn them on. They were just there as part of the show. That’s really weird that you didn’t see them. The scene would have been incomprehensible without them.

  8. It’s fine to discuss the individual strengths and weaknesses of the writing team. Just keep in mind A) they are unlikely to read this forum B) season 2 is already written and being filmed.

Approach this discussion the same way you might a discussion of Hemingway vs Fitzgerald in a classroom. Unless someone produces a time machine, anything we say here is not going to affect the series.
