But I has no team mates ,_, at least not any that I'm aware of. (hint hint the right people will know what I mean by that)

In case people want to get some clarification on my playstyle: firstly I'm town. Sometimes I comment to fish for reactions. Since I have a certain role, I'm trying to find hints for who else has roles that are relevant to me in the game.

And I do like to joke/troll to frustrate you guys :birgitte:

Yeah, definitely happy here. Rereading David, I caught these. These two posts, paired, read as Symp.

Wot.

How did you get symp?

I've only played one game with a symp, but here's what I remember.

They cop as town (check)

They are not aware of their scum team and cannot win without them (check)

They need their team to recruit them to join them, and therefore need to somehow signal them in thread (check)

@Tress

Can you help me understand why I'm #2 on your WTL list?  Do you have questions for me, or....?

Posted

@ Tress if you can explain your scum reads in particular that could be helpful.

I'm going to be late for work, lol...

But most of this is POE.  As I said, I'm most likely to want to lynch Snow, because we don't appear to be approaching the game in the same way.  This doesn't necessarily mean he's mafia, but he's the one who concerns me the most at this stage.

Posted

mr booboo who do you want to lynch. Also do you distinguish between someone playing bad and playing scummy? Or are both equally lynchable qualities for you?

Right now, Zander and David have pinged the hardest for me.  I'v repeated that multiple times.

Playing bad isnt always scummy. Everyone has had a bad town game.  That said, when its this early and you're playing bad when nothing is going on...I'm not going to apologize if we lynch town.   So yes, depending on the situation and timing, they're lynchable qualities.

Then I don't see the difference between your "WTL POE" and what I'd call a null read.  You've explained JS, so that's cool, but I'd like to know more about your oranges.

Leelou I get that you're busy, I have two toddlers one on the way and helping my parents move. Hope your project goes well.

Since you can't give a list how about a reason for your vote?

Posted

Saying votes aren't useful was probably excessive on my part. It's good for a lot of people and I use it often enough, it's just not my primary go-to.

I get what you're saying about wanting to holster your town reads to see who pushes them. I've seen fairly obvious villagers duke it out in most games I've played and if I'm a wolf I sit back and let it happen while trying to look like I want to figure them out, as a villager I take a strong stance if I have one because I don't want a mislynch. And that's more where I and I think a lot of the Cory Curren copycats come from--a sort of power struggle between wolves and villagers for thread domination, where we try to not let wolves have a free pass to sit back and relax when all the pressure is on villagers.

You make that sound like the only correct way is your way, which is not true. JiF has been playing his way on JN for years, and he's done well.

I think the biggest difference is the amount of subtlety used. JiF and I both come from a mafia time/place that prefers more subtlety than the way mafia is played now on a lot of sites (POG, MU, etc).

Two routes to the same destination, imo.

Agreed

I signed up for a second game at JN because I liked it, not because I want to change it.

But I'm going to be a bit defensive when for two straight games strangers show up to tell us how much our playstyle sucks.  I took deserved heat for doing the same in my first JN game.

FWIW - I'm not saying your play style "sucks" here.  Just seems highly inefficient.  I think 60 pages and not a single train probably supports that thought...but all good, I'll leave it alone.  I wasnt trying to be all preachy. Just trying to figure out why the tendency is town hunt rather than scum hunt and why you guys thinks it effective.

I'm not entirely sure a DPR game is a good example of why the "new DM" playstyle has become the norm here, just sayin'.  There are mechanics to be considered with this game that makes a 60 page D1 with no serious trains not entirely useless, all told.

It's a different approach than when I started playing, to be sure... it seems to work well for me with my personality type, I'm a much more intuitive player and in order to spend a lot less time analyzing post by post early on (some of the older players may remember my Giant Spreadsheet of Doom) I have forced myself to sort the field by gut feelings and then get into more detail the people I'm less likely to think are town.  Once the field narrows, I spend a lot more time in ISO for everyone, even the ones I felt good about D1.

Cool.  I have no problem with lists and using what works best for you.  Maybe it was just semantics but I personally dont see how you could have a POE at this point..even with the obvious mechanic differences from a standard set up.  All good.  You do you.

Not specifically, no.  Like i said with Snow, we don't appear to be approaching the game the same way at all.  I know I'm town, this doesn't necessarily mean you're mafia, but it concerns me.  I know it's something you can't defend against, and that's unfortunate.  I am not at the point of voting yet, and I doubt you'll be my vote today.  If Snow is lynched and he's not mafia, I will have some rethinking to do and you may find yourself out of the POE.

Mostly I'm hoping for a ton of content from my nulls to help sort this better.

Not necessarily. It's a DPR game and things are not often as they seem. Meaning sometimes there are mechanics we're not aware of and can help town. For insurance the last one I played if town rushed days then scum was at a disadvantage. We didn't know that though. So since overall David isn't giving me a scummy vibe I'm not willing to vote there.

I've played many DPR games.  I get that the mechanics are different.

And I'm not saying we rush anything...but I dont see any progress being made either.

Some of us will see things that you won't for reasons of mechanics, though.

For those who know 80 at JN - is David like him? He thinks he throwing out logic but he's not?

Ironic you say that, when that essentially is EXACTLY what Tom & Cory did to us here at DM when they first came over. I battled Cory a lot at first on that very subject, and we came to an understanding (I think) that different doesn't mean better - it just means what I said above = 2 routes to the same destination.

Whoa whoa whoa. We aren't strangers to DM. JiF has played here before, it's just been years.

My comment above was about the "he must be a symp" comment. I don't see it that way, but as something to keep an eye on for now. Just won't vote someone I don't think is scum.
