Ok, for years I have been hoping for a Wheel of Time movie, or even a good video game on consoles, something worth playing like Metal Gear Solid.

Recently, I've been thinking that if indeed Wheel of Time was turned into a movie, I'd rather see it as a computer animated film, just because of how massive it is. However, thinking that there would be many films involved, I think it might work better as a TV series, each season could be each of the books, or maybe a mini-series.

Of course, like many LOTR fans, we may end up seeing a live action version not quite like the books and they may not be able to pull it off like Peter Jackson did with Lord of the Rings. However, it would be nice to see Wheel of Time on the big screen, but in all actuality I seriously doubt it will ever happen...sadly. In a way, I kind of hope it doesn't happen. It will preserve the beauty of Wheel of Time.

Since Wheel of Time may not work as a film, how about a video game, an RPG version of it like Final Fantasy. Somethin expansive, something with enough story in it to keep people watching, side-stories that further expand our imaginations on Wheel of Time. Even an MMORPG might work...I don't know, just rambling.

Yeah, i dont think an mmorpg would work, that would just ruin the expeirience with idiots ruining the ambiance by talking about there dog in real life or some bullshit. But maybe an rpg like morrowind, that is open ended, so you can do whatever you want.

Haha ok...can u tell I'm a newbie? Sorry haha.

Plus...I thought this might start a debate on whether or not a mini-series, movie or video game could work.

Debate or not, if its wot related it goes in the wot section. D&D is more towards political & social debates & discusions.

I'm so glad you mentioned that. I don't go to the D&D board because I'm interested in WOT debates' date=' etc. I can go anywhere for political and other debates. I thought this was a WOT discussion, which is why I read it. And, I still think it is. HAPPY DAY![/quote']

Thank you! This post is WOT related. At least it was last I checked. And if you think about, it just became a debate as well, so I guess I was doing the right thing.

What? This is General Wheel of Time Discussion... why can't we talk about a possible WOT miniseries/ movie etc here?

I think a miniseries would be cool, Have any of you seen the Dune Miniseries? It was pretty well done for the time. I think if you put enough money in and got a decent enough cast and directer it would be best done in a TV Miniseries. I bet Sci Fi would pounce on it.

Then all we would need to do is try and make sure they don't ruin it!

Some SciFi made tv movies ROCK!. Anyways I think that there was some disscussion about this once a while ago. I think that only a TV show, with NUMEROUS seasons, is the only way that the books could be done justice.

I'd love to see a great 360/PS3/PC game made, but it all hinges on a movie/series first, I'd say. And until someone gives the project (when it gets as far as being called a 'project', that is) a push, start shopping for a director or screenplay writer who really has a passion for it...it won't get done. At least not properly.

Fire Serpant? Dragon Slayer? Dark Kingdom? Meh... mediocre at best.

The only thing that came out of Sci Fi Originals that just made me go WoW is Dresden Files and Battlestar Galactica.

They'd need to do an amazing job on WoT to do it justice.

With regards to a movie, Red Eagle Entertainment has the rights, and as I mentioned in the "graphic novel" thread, those people can't even get an 8 issue comic book out the door in one piece. I am highly skeptical about their ability to put ANYthing together, much less something the magnitude of a movie, miniseries, or animated film (or films).

With regards to a video game, which I don't play much of anymore, if you go with an RTS, I think THQ and Relic entertainment could do a decent job (based on their work on WH 40K DOW) or Black Hole Entertainment and Cinergi (who did WH Mark of Chaos, which I have not played but, from what I've seen, seems right for WoT in terms of scale and gameplay).

I think that an MMORPG would work, espically due to the sheer diversity of the people who read the books. Also, I don't know about anyone else, but it seems to me like people would jump at the opportunity to further experience RJ's world in just about any way that was presented.

In case you don't already know there is a WoT PC game out there. (It sucks) made by legend and what it tried to do was combine a FPS with an RPG and had NO relation to the books. I view it as a feeble atempt at introduceing non-readers to WoT. ( To point out how bad it was you had an Aes Sedai with no connection to the two rivers call the Armylin a woolhead!) if you want to play it for yourself you can get it on Ebay real cheap just search "wheel of time pc game"

Certainly WOT would never work as a TV mini-series. Most mini-series consiste of 2-5 episodes and there is no way the breath of WOT could be contained in so few episodes. If WOT were to be formated for televison I think the term, "Macro-series" would be more appropriate. I like the idea of WOT being done as an episodic TV Drama, however, I don't think it need be one book per season. Typically, tv dramas occur in hour long episodes and a typical season consists of 26 episodes. Therefore, I'd say they could do at least two books per season. I know these are rather hefty books, but 13 hours should be more than adequate time to cover one book.

Band of Brothers was 10 episodes long. Some mini-series are longer than others.

But I agree, it would have to be done in seasons.

HBO has optioned A Song of Ice and Fire, with the intent of doing 12 episodes (one season) per book.

If that format proves successful (i.e., profitable), maybe another network to be interested in doing something similar with WoT, except maybe over 6-8 seasons instead of 12.

That's about the only way the series cold get done with anything close to maintaining integrity.

I was kind of thinking along the same lines. If SoFaI proves a success for HBO then other networks almost certainly will become interested in doing similar projects with other fantasy series. Moreover, if this trend becomes successful the networks will probably be willing to give these projects the extended season which typically consists of 26 episodes. Given this format they could easily do at least two complete books per season. I could honestly see them getting through TEotW, TGH and a little bit of TDR all in season 1. I think a great first season cliff hanger would be when Moiraine, Perrin and co. wake up to find that Rand has disapeared. This would give the series an expected life span of 6 seasons. If it is such a runaway hit that audiences demand more there is always New Spring and God willing by that point there will the two more prequels and a few out- trigger novels.

I figured the books contained too much stuff to make a tv series out of it. The GRRM series will be a real test of how well a highly-detailed, long fantasy series can work on TV, but in the meantime, I think it'd be awesome, and far less risky, to make a movie or mini-series about the War of the Shadow from the Age of Legends. This is a story that isn't fully written and could be designed with TV in mind, so viewers wouldn't feel like the original was being chopped to bits. Also telling this story in full would be a real treat for the fans, because we already KNOW the story in the books, and frankly I crave NEW material more than the same story I've already read.

Personally, i would LOVE to see Wot as a live-action film, but it's just so massive that i don't think it would work. A good idea would probably be either an anime series since it's very popular at the moment and used to doing this sort of thing (although i know a lot of you probably would hate that), or a tv series which is actually quite reasonable. I mean, if A Song of Ice and Fire can be a tv series, WoT should be able to too (even though it's a bit longer).

As for a video game, i've been dying for one! I'm thinking perhaps the best form of a game would be similar to the format of Fable. Several missions should be available such as whether to help rand (like moiraine) or hurt him (like elaida). Or you could go on quests with Mat and fight battles, or fight off trollocs to save your hometown...etc. Along with this, you would be able to choose the path of light or shadow. See what I mean? Very Fable-like, but completely wheel of time.

What do you guys think?
